Samyang introduces the MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 and MF 85mm f/1.4 MK2

I used two copies of the Canon 14mm MkII and was extremely disappointed in both, I actually got better results from the old 15mm fisheye and defishing it with a little utility called Fisheye-Hemi.

Nowadays I use the 11-24 which blows the 14mm prime out of the water when compared at 14mm.

I'm a bit surprised.
My EF 14 II is sharp, contrasty, even in the corners. I really love it ! As to the 11-24, I have no opinion, since i've never used it. But its weight is certainly a drawback for longer hikes...

Wireless file transmitter for the Canon EOS R5 appears for certification

Having said that, personally I would like to avoid adapters for the hassle of keeping them, searching for them, having to use and remove them etc. Some new expensive lenses have also the IS advantage (24-70 and 15-35) and that's why I got them.
Your last sentence gives exactly the same reasons for not using an adapter that herein2020 has stated and which I am defending in my post. Nobody said the RF 35 f/1.8 would be better than the EF 35 f/1.4L II. Nobody said that recent EF lenses with adapter would optically not be just as good as their RF counterparts. This whole adapter-discussion revolves around the fact that somebody (herein2020) stated that he/she doesn't use adapters. For exactly those reasons you are also giving in your post (losing them, searching for them, additional handling, etc.). One of the reasons was that in the RF ecosystem there are some new lenses that are optically superior to older EF lenses. Nobody said that this has anything to do with the adapter itself, but in RF without adapter world there are some unique and shiny lenses that are better than their comparable EF counterparts. Partly simply because they are newer, partly because they (possibly) make use of the faster communication protocols, etc.

Kickstarter: Aurora Aperture next gen rear mount filter system now live

that’s why we have engineers. They do things like calculate and test the G forces it would take to dislodge a magnetic filter and compare that to the G forces a camera might survive.
Pretty easy stuff.
And you sure they did at Aurora Aperture?
Including an accidentally dropping of the gear?
Hmm... then this company is much better than the guys that did their website :ROFLMAO:
But who cares about good software engineers when we have good mechanical engineers:rolleyes:

Samyang AF 14mm f2.8 RF video test (looks weird)

Looks pretty good to me, and considering it's 14mm on a FF sensor, it performs well as far as distortion is concerned.
My EF16-35mm 2.8 LII has more edge distortion at 16mm than your lens has at 14mm.
Using a UWA for video is a bit different from using say a 50mm lens.
Every time you move the lens you will see the slight distortion at the edges moving around. When using a UWA lens for video, try and keep camera movement to a minimum.

You must have been very close to the skaters during that shoot!
Great angles too.

Canon EOS R5 pricing is still unknown, don’t believe the reports [CR0]

I predicted in a previous thread the price would be over $5K and I still believe that is going to be true. I got totally roasted for it. This camera could be the greatest thing since sliced bread but I still believe Canon will overprice the body. The cost of RF lenses are already proof of that. Mirrorless tech is still evolving and this camera will most likely bested by a cheaper alternative sooner than later. As I said before, If I need a new body, I'll snatch one of these from the bargain bin probably at a 50% discount or more.
Guess what? You are going to get totally roasted in this thread as well. :)

Plate-billed Mountain Toucan (Ecuador)

Stunning bird, but even more importantly, a stunning photo.

I just looked at your link to buy the post processing "book". Based on the quality of your photos I am sure it is very helpful. However thirty bucks seems a bit steep for a download-only e book. If it was an actual printed book that might be reasonable, but for an electronic version?

The Canon EOS R6 has shown up for certification

I'll believe it when I see it. Absolutely nothing about the rumors, and what we know about Canon's past strategy, points towards it being a video-centric body except the resolution. Going to need a lot more evidence to make it anything more than wishful thinking.
To sum it up so far:
So far all the leaks were true, so the R6 specs seem legit too, from that I see it as the jack of all trades / master of none concept of camera. (The EOS R is also a camera like that, where it has the higher build quality and good sensor at an attractive price point, but also less features on other fronts)

It offers a bit of everything like very good high ISO sensitivity, quick frame rates, dual card slots for photo, great frame rates for video, IBIS that presents advantages for both uses, all this at a decent price level.
It will be lighter than the EOS R (R5), because it will not use an all-alloy chassis (or top LCD, no word on a joystick), but not quite as light as the RP as it has the much better battery inside it.
A good vlogging/travel camera like the EOS RP, only much better featured in every way, except the megapixel count (but maybe a new AA filter will minimise the effect and the ISO should be even better, video is way better and it's not slow anymore either), of course it is also going to cost at least twice as much as the RP, but it still sets a new entry to a FF camera with dual card slots or higher-end video frame rates.

But, despite all the features, it will not necessarily excel at anything either, I would forget "more advanced" features like better dynamic range, ALL-I codecs, C-Log or better resolution for stills (or a big buffer). I just don't think it's happening, both to keep the cost down and also to keep it separated from the much more expensive models.

While the R5's job is to take back what the 5D line offered with a suddenly huge jump in specs compared to previous step, the R6 is somewhat similar at the 6D level. It will actually offer more in some aspects and it will probably lack a few things to balance it out. It could be a decently popular camera, if it remains close to that 2000$ price level.

Need a few tips. ;)

It depends how you saved the file. If you saved it as a .psd or .tif then just open it again (Open Original) and look at the adjustment layers, the history won't be there but the layers will.

If you saved it as a jpeg or if you flattened it then there is nothing you can do unless you run a Time Machine style backup program.

Peak Design Donates 100% of Profits From its 4-Day Travel Tripod Launch for COVID-19 Response and Combating Climate Change

I have a Sirui Carbon Fiber tripod also. It doesn't fold up as small as the Peak Design but it's still pretty good and very sturdy - and a lot less $$

I've gone through a few Sirui tripods. I still own a Sirui W2204 that I use for instances when I might damage a tripod. They are crap. You get what you pay for. From the shoddy spiders that bend, to the locks that fail, to their ridiculous choice in leg angles to increase those height stats.

Buy a Sirui if you want to replace it in two years. Buy a RRS or a Gitzo if you want something that actually lasts, is well designed, and well made.

How about new Sigma tele lenses?

Hi guys,

I never heard of a MK2 version of any Sigma lenses...but I m hoping for a new 150-600 5.0-6.3f C for DSLR/DSLM. The 150-600 C is from 2015...not so old yet. But there is the new 60-600mm wich should be better at 600mm what I have heard. But it is really big (2,7kg vs 1,9kg) and slightly double the price.

I have a really bad Tamron 150-600 G1....the service defocused my lense, tho I m looking for a new one for wildlife and birding. And want to sell my Tamron after it will be repaired I think.

Some days a ago I had the opertunity to test the Canon 100-400 II on my 5DIV. It looks really nice and sharp. But for the most small birds the 400mm is to short =/.

My hope lays also on the Canon 100-500 if is it not to expensive - but then I need the R5 :D...the RP isn't that good for wildlife.

What do you think about new potential Sigma tele-zooms?!
The 150-600mm C is a pretty good lens but the AF at 600mm is slow. Get the 1.4xTCIII to go with the 100-400mm II.

EF135mm f/2L for sports photography?

Underwater video sounds like a blast! Glad you dodged a bullet with the 16-35. I have had a few close calls on the sidelines which is why I keep both eyes open and even then there are some close calls. A friend recently retired from his work as a sound crew member on a NFL coverage crew, his primary job was aiming the parabolic mic but his other job was keeping a firm hold on the leash of a camera guy to jerk him out of danger when necessary.

I seriously considered the 50 1.2 and rented one but the focus speed drop-off in low light was just enough that it concerned me. The Canon 1.4 does focus faster but the image quality of the 1.2 is in a class by itself. I thought I might use it some for indoor sports so I was concerned about the slow focus speed, peformance is pretty much the same in low light as the closely related 85 f1.2. A friend had a Sigma 50 1.4 and I tried it and I was amazed at focus speed and image quality. The last time I thought about Sigma was back when I still had a Canon film camera and at that point they were just the low cost, lesser alternative to a good Canon lens but it seems they have upped their game in some areas. I don't think they have anything that compares to Canon quality and performance in the tele range but that 50 was impressive enough that I bought one and the first one I got seems to be a good copy, Sigma quality control seems to be a bit lacking given reports of people sometimes ordering multiples and keeping the best one.

The toughest part of the sports shutdown for me was watching my daughter miss her sophomore year of high school soccer. She broke the school single season record by 7 goals her freshman year and only needed 8 more goals this season to set the school career record so it was tough for her to sit it out. Now her next field sports opportunity will be in fall because the football team recruited her to be their kicker. She was practicing soccer penalty kicks and the football coach was walking by and saw her send a ball through a new net and he went into recruiting mode. Several of his players had been telling him that he should be watching her kick but he wasn't a believer until he walked by during practice. Hopefully things will be somewhat normal by Fall but it will be weird for me being on the sidelines of a football game with my daughter because the last time she was on the sidelines with me at football was carrying gear while I shot at a college stadium. It will be nice for her to get back on the athletic field but she has put the downtime during the pandemic to good use and has two journal articles under review in bio-math that she is publishing with a group of college profs. But we will both be happy when more normal times return.

Canon RF 14-21mm f/1.4L USM one of the “crazy” lenses coming next year [CR1]

Sorry, I was still stuck on Sony. With Sigma the only issues I'm aware of are with AF consistency. YMMV.
There is one serious issue with the Sigma otherwise excellent Art lenses namely: 40/1.4, 14-24/2.8, 12-24/4 - a massive focus shift.

Wide open focus is right on the money. However stopped down by two stops, focus would shift behind the subject and by a lot.
Not a problem with Sony cameras focusing stopped down. Still a problem with Canon DSLRs and mirrorless

Is a Canon RF 14-28mm f/2L USM on the way? [CR1]

I was pretty impressed at first then I realized that all these zooms are just 2X. That means Canon is finally catching up to Sigma who have had their 18-35 and 50-100 1.8s for years. The Canon FF lenses will deliver more being FF lenses but the lens designs aren't that radical any more.
That’s not the same thing, to make a full frame 28-70 f2 takes a lot of research and development vs a tiny apsc lens which is about 1/4 the size

Rattle sound Canon 35 mm F/1.4L II

End of the story...
At february i have sent letter to main Japan Canon office. They created ticket of my request. Some time later, I received message from ... CPS service... yes the same CPS. They asked me to send the lens again with free shipping. I sent the lens at the middle of march. But engineer told me, that 90 % they return me lens without repair. ... One week later in Russia COVID19 "holiday" 28 march - 11 may started. Finally CPS did not meet the repair deadlines (by law). Because i bought the lens directly from Canon (official internet shop) i send request for refund. Canon company admited a violation of law and returned me my money... I bought the same model of lens (35 mm F/1.4L II USM).
My new copy of lens is more better than previous. Sharpness much better. Play of focus ring is also exists, but it insignificant. Rattle sound is very quiet.
I also noticed a big difference in quality of autofocus. New copy has no problem with autofocus. Autofocus in previous copy was bad: chaotic back front focus, depending on which side focuses (from infinity of from near).

The Canon EOS R5 has passed Bluetooth certification

I really don't mind if they ship it late, but announce the thing already! Stupid COVID-19 can't affect an announcement.

Why? The original intent was to announce it at Photokina which was scheduled for the end of May. They'll announce it at the same time they've been planning to announce it since late last year.
