so far, there has been no evidence that ef-rf adapter affects image quality of adapted EF lenses used on R-series cameras. not a slight sign of vignetting levels being affected by the adaptor.

Planning a trip. Will be trekking in Northern Scotland and trying to limit weight on my back. I know I could carry a point and shoot but then I come home and don't like what I see on my screen. So, I usually resign myself to bringing the 5D4 and some glass. On past treks, I've limited what I carry and often missed my 100-400 when coming across birds and other critters. This time, I am really thinking I'll carry the Canon RP with the RF 24-105. But, will prob also bring the 100-400 with the EF-RF adapter.

Now, the next dilemma is "stability." I usually don't carry a tripod, again because of weight. Been able to make due with high ISO, leaning on trees, placing camera on a rock, etc. But then I had an idea. I have RRS "Pocket" pod / head (TFA-01 Ultra with BH-25 Pro). I took the RP with adapter and 100-400, put it on the tripod and head using the lens foot, and tried it. Remarkably stable!

Think I am going to use this kit. RRS specs are, in my experience, conservative. I know this is not a replacement for my more substantial tripod and ballhead but some support is always better than no support

The acceptable circle of confusion for a particular use case is determined by the magnification involved in that use case that occurs between the image projected by the lens onto the imaging plane and the final display size viewed from the final viewing distance by a person with an assumed acuity of vision.

That is, the circle of confusion is an expression of how large a blur circle projected onto the imaging plane (sensor or film) can be and still be perceived as a single point by a viewer of the final image after enlargement to the display size when viewed from the intended viewing distance.

The diameter of the blur circle is defined as a linear measurement on the imaging plane, but how large that linear measurement may be (and thus the maximum acceptable size of the blur circle projected onto the imaging plane that we define as the circle of confusion) is determined by the corresponding angular size of such a blur circle when enlarged in the final display size and viewed by a person with a defined visual acuity at the final viewing distance that will still allow that blur circle to be perceived by that viewer as a point.

People missed the point of the story. Camera market is a tiny byplay in Sony business. What they really are trying to do is strengthen their lead in image sensor business.They don't care of Canon or Nikon at all, they just want them to use Sony sensors. Their real threat is here:

I'm not even sure if they are really interested in taking over diminishing traditional camera business, they would have already bought Sigma or Tamron to create lens repertoire that would be as pervasive as CaNikon's.

Why would you limit your analysis to a few months? Would you project net worth by looking at it the day you get paid and the day before that?

Here is what I think about this lens: The best 24-105mm lens ever. Definitely. I used Canon EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM, Sigma 24-105mm f4 OS, Nikon 24-120mm f4 VR and Sony 24-105mm f4G OSS. This RF lens is the best overall. Optically it is very balanced and I can use it at f4 without even thinking on EOS R. Only above 90-95mm at f4 you'll see some decrease in corners and vignetting at 24mm at f4, and that's all. CA is very low, it is always sharp in the middle section and it is really good from 24mm to 90mm at f4 from corner to corner, it is short, handles perfectly well and the control ring is a God-given I wish it had close-focus like EF 24-70mm f4L IS USM (which I'll sell tomorrow) but you can't have it all I guess
Canon has a winner. Definitely. Now it's time to give new buyers a reasonably priced 24-105mm f3.5-5.6 IS.
Edit: I see a lot of vignetting between 24 and 35mm at f4 in RAW (uncorrected). Compared to my Sony 24-70mm f2.8GM this is very visible (GM lens is probably the best 24-70mm anyway and it is more than 2 times more expensive than Canon). After I edit RAW file and with some sharpening, you will still have good corners. And remember this is at f4.

Xeens are cinema lenses. They're made by Rokinon, but are a little higher quality.

The RP body is A$1751 (USD 1,222) on sale here in Australia now (no lenses no adapter). If you’re guessing USD above, that’s a massive A$2890+

any predictions of a xc-20?

My 2006 Mac Pro is still a good machine. It still sits under my desk, and I crank it up from time to time and use some of its features while I do something else with my iMac, and then finish audio editing and such on the iMac, though I'd be OK with doing more on the Pro, but I just don't need to. The only problem with it is that it won't run recent versions of the OS, and therefore won't run latest versions of some software. And, OK, I admit that on the most intensive uses it suffers in terms of speed. I used to edit video and then send it to Compressor and go to bed. Now it is more like I head to the fridge for a snack and/or I take a bathroom break.

My iMac is a 5K model from 2014, pretty well maxed out. I don't feel a need to replace it any time soon. It wasn't cheap, but splurging a bit then has paid off for me in its longevity. I was looking at getting a trash can Mac Pro even then, and realized, especially given the monitor situation, that this was a much better fit for me. The iMac Pro starts at $5,000, and is more computer than I'm ever likely to need. That doesn't say I won't ever get one some day. The new Mac Pro is a lot more serious machine. If you need one, you likely know who you are and will budget accordingly. It looks like they took the cheese grater theme and ran with it.

I know its been 2 years since post. but my 7D II started getting this error. I am prepping to send back for exam via CPS program. I have beat a lot of photographs out of my 7d II (A lot of Sports) already had shutter replaced. With the 7D being put to rest what should I switch too. or Limp along unti something new arrives?

Without the extender and using a 'heavy' lens like the 24-105 or RF50 the RP will rub at the base of my ring finger leaving a red spot that takes about a day to go away. With the extender I can shoot it all day, every day. I have medium sized hands for my 6 ft length.

Nowadays I'm using the RP+EG-E1 mostly with the MP-E65 + MT24-EX. No problem with the weight or grip: Masked bee

This is a pretty cool concept. Any timeline on this lens?

I wouldn't think so. I did not expect anyone to use it to buy a submarine camera. Those who need them, I expect, likely have them.

I’d go for accessories - second battery, grip, etc.

The problem is that they can't afford to stock any of the higher end model equipment, just entry level, or occasionally a trade-in. They do order it and get it promptly. They have managed to get new models for me that no one else could get.

The true benefit of the new mount is that Canon, one way or another, is going to find a way to get RF mount users to buy "improved" versions of all their existing EF lenses. Regardless of whether they're any better.

Another consideration is that with so many ef lenses available on the second hand market, canon is positioning to make them obsolete and force cash flow back to them directly. Once you have an r mount camera, will you consider purchasing more ef lenses?
