Sony is Doomed!

The RP needs a matching lens to sell well.
It looks to me as though Canon has settled on 24-105 as the market sweet spot for focal range for a normal walk around FF zoom, and they already have several out there. Unless something shorter and less expensive might capitalize on the small size of the RP. Some patents along those lines have shown up

7D Mark II ?

Hi Rick.
See this post, or this post, it doesn’t seem like waiting for a 7DIII is going to be very rewarding!
As for whether it suits your needs, only you can really answer that.
I think the sensor in the 7DII is showing its age now, I think it might be worth looking to newer crop bodies, having said that I do like my 7DII.

Cheers, Graham.
Thanks, I checked out posts.

New Sumire Prime Lenses Make Their Hollywood Premiere At Cine Gear Expo

$7.5k per lens is still a little pricey for most independent cinematographers, but it's a hell of a lot more affordable than the Leitz Summilux-C glass. It's somewhat amusing to see how the battle of cine glass used to be getting the sharpest image possible, but now it's starting to swing in favor of making less sharp images due to the rise of 4k+ super35 & full-frame sensors.

I'd like to see if Canon are able to develop a fast zoom lens from the Sumire line for a super35 image circle. Sigma did a decent job with the 18-35mm & 50-100mm T2 lenses; it would be nice to have that kind of focal length versatility with the Sumire look.

Anything shot with the RP and L/RF glass:

I really can't get over how much I love the 50mm f/1.2. That rf is worth the price alone. There's more at
bit.ly/appleorchardsampler and to test the video, i even combined a few rando video clips I took throughout the day to make a video at

RF Trinity Len Sizes?

Current UWA zoom lenses have an inner barrel
...
So, I would expect the RF UWA lenses to be fixed length with a moving inner barrel.
Thanks for that explaination.
I wasn't aware that this would be called "fixed length" or even "internal zoom".

So then the RF 15-35 would/could have a constant barrel with about 115 mm length.

Canon listed as "Master of Photography" TV show "digital imaging partner", replacing Leica

IMHO Canon made a disservice to itself with the show. So eager to promote the R system it gave photographers just an R camera and the only two of the very few lenses available when the show was shot last Winter - the 24-105/4 and 50/1.2 (not the 28-70/2) No adapter and EF lenses.

Just, the first assignment was "archeological landscape" (at Ostia Antica site) - and the R system looked quite "poor" on the screen, as all the mirrorless advantages could not be shown.

Evidently they wanted to advertise the R system to a generic public, but I would have throw in a couple of TS lenses to show what Canon can deliver - I don't believe it's a matter of price if you show the 50/1.2

EOS R and 135 L issue?

Hi good people!

I recently bought a 135 L to use with my R.

But I get seriously disappointing results regarding Servo AF. My RF50 can’t miss, and the 135 can’t hit.

It’s okay, but only okay, in One Shot and in servo I get a 2 out of 15 shots sharp, the rest is so OOF you can’t tell who I took a picture of.

Anyone has used this combo and like to chime in with your experience?

Thanks!

Had an F2 135 for years.

First shot with my trusty crusty 24-70 f2.8 in the dark with the R. Felt like my lens got an upgrade with af off the sensor and focused in areas in the dark where my 5d3 couldn’t.

Then shot with F135 and despite being an f2, had less of a hit ratio in same location.

Industry News: Fujifilm announces the GFX 100, a 102mp medium format camera

The shots seem soft. I expected so much better from a 100MP $10,000 body. This camera is not going to sell to me or those that want a $10K MF body with these lens choices. Even if it was $2,000 it's too soft!!!! PhaseOne and Hasselblad used is a much better choice at this price point
Do you have the real files or you aree judging from images sites

Patent: Zoom tilt-shift lenses

Yes, RF mount isn't just about the shorter BF distance, but why make it shorter at all? Just to make the body ~1" shallower?

Apparently so. Just a guess, but Canon is probably looking for the sweet spot in size between the M series (uncomfortably small for perhaps half the world market, but near perfect for the home market), and their DSLRs (uncomfortably large for the home market, but acceptable for US/Europe). Yes, for decades we have all adjusted to whatever size was available because we had no choice (anyone remember the Olympus OM-1 making quite the splash in the 1970's because the body was a good bit smaller than the other 35mm bodies of the era), but now that there is opportunity to optimize the size of the body for the largest percentage of the population, it makes sense to do so to maximize market share overall.

Which is the overarching goal. Crush the competition, take their market share, maximize sales and profits, please the shareholders.

That they can do amazing things with the shorter BF distance might very well have been a nice benefit, even if perhaps it wasn't the initial goal.

Those must have been really interesting design meetings.

The 2020 RF lens roadmap, up to 8 new lenses coming in 2020

Two things of note to clarify after reading recent posts:

1. IS can be very useful even in fast lenses that don't "need" it. First, it stabilizes the finder, which is always handy. Second, as someone who shoots bleeding-edge handheld available-dark images at ISO 25000 with my 24mm f/1.4 wide open, I will take any help I can get.

2. The myth that IS degrades image quality needs to die. Some of Canon's sharpest lenses have IS. This myth is no doubt related to the myth that adding elements to a lens degrades image quality.

IS is in more and more lenses because it improves image quality by reducing the effects of camera shake.

IS only improves image quality if the amount of blur due to camera movement is greater than the amount of blur introduced by displacement of the IS lens elements from their ideal position. For IS to counteract camera movement, lens elements have to move. That means they are introducing either tilt or centering compensations that are less than ideal.

IBIS also affects IQ, but in a different way. As the sensor shifts it moves the center of the frame away from the center of the imaging circle. This will typically cause the IQ at one edge/corner of the frame to improve (because that edge/corner is now closer to the center of the image circle) while at the same time causing the IQ at the opposite edge/corner to degrade (because that edge/corner is now closer to the edge of the image circle).

Using the canon R and the BG-E22 vertical grip VERTICALLY with touch-drag

Thanks for the reply.

one thing to look out for with the low price in some is that I believe canon sells the grip only WITHOUT the usb charger for the lesser price.

I verified that this was a authorized dealer before I ordered it, and the grip was new and complete, including USB charger. I've been around more than a few years and know all the tricks.

They still have it for that price. I'm not sure why, their other Canon stuff is all sold at MAP.

I've transferred images to Adobe Lightroom on my phone and then to the cloud, but I don't transfer them to my NAS when shooting within range of my Wi-Fi access points.

I have very large hands, so my thumb keeps creeping onto the top ocorner of the screen, I've turned the touch bar off because it was always being activated.

Even with its flaws, I tend to use it more than my 5D MK IV because it is easier to carry. I generally don't like grips, but it helps solve a issue, so I had to compromise.

Unfortunately, all the dual Canon chargers I've owned charge sequentially, so that came as no surprise, but it was one of the first things I verified.

Made by Highschoolers: Technology in Education

You did a fantastic job! It makes me happy, knowing that there are so many bright minds out there in the world. You are our future, and so is technology. Education systems should be innovated and upgraded every year. I will do my job and tell all students to buy research paper online at this site as a study material so that they can be ready for a digital future.

Interesting what's happened since I got an RP.....

I've got mine set to ECO. I leave the touchscreen closed unless I need it. I turn it off immediately (if I turn off the IS to save battery, I might not remember to turn it on so just turn off the camera) if I now I'll not be taking shots for a bit (probably not necessary since it "times out" on its own) and I do almost no crimping. I've taken over 350 shots with the RF 24-105 and have battery still available.

I do wish the IS would not stay "on" and maybe a future firmware upgrade will improve that.

I have 3 batteries 'cause 1 came with the camera and I had extras from my old M days. I am planning a trip and thinking about the RP instead of my 5Div. I'd bring the RF 24-105, the EF 16-35 and the EF 100-400 vii with the RF-EF adapter. What is anyone's experience with the EF + adapter and battery life? Assuming 200-300 shots a day (and that is likely more than I'd do) and 3 batteries, would I get a couple of days worth of images between charges?

Hmmmmm. 3 battery’s over two days? Probably, if you didn’t chimp too much. Safer to plan on charging each night though. At least it’s quick and easy via usb c

I didn’t use my elf lenses much as the rf24-105 ended up stuck on the camera, but with what little I did, I didn’t see a change in battery life.

If you go R/RF?

I just got tired enough of my Sony a7r3 and ordered an R/24-105/adapter kit from B&H.. (Tried to buy locally but the store with stock doesn't take PayPal.).. For the Sony, I have the 24-105 and 70-200 F4/G zooms and Canon TS-Es in 24mm (gen.2) and 50mm (gen.3).. Will be keeping the TS-Es and the RF 24-105.. Won't be buying a tele for a while.

The R felt VERY good in my hands...MUCH better than the too-small Sony.
That’s why I got an R...if you just hold the R, Z6/7 and A7R, that’s the exact order of how ergonomically well designed they are IMO...the R just feels a lot better in the hand.
