Is this the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III?

I can not understand the policy Kenon, professional cameras are updated 1 time in 2-3 years, this is normal.
But when it comes to the banal compact camera PowerShot G7 X Mark 3, which needs to be updated EVERY year, such as Nikon updating the D3xxx, D5xxx DSLR line, Canon’s policy is not clear - in general.
Can anyone suggest alternatives, mandatory requirements: a matrix from 1-inch and above, 5-axis stub, the presence of zoom (not fixed), a folding screen for selfie, 4Kp30 - 4Kp60, high-aperture lens (preferably), compactness (preferably), fresh model 2018-2019.

Is the RF 28-70 f2 trying to be too many things at once?

I suppose that the 28-70 f2L is a kind of marketing stunt lens. One to show the competition what Canon can do if they have the will and the budget. Reading recent artilces from Canon, they suspect that the 35mm market (DSLR and RF) will contract 50% over the next few years. So these new lenses (while Canon still has an R&D budget to play with) will be it for a while. Once all the RF lenses are available, there won't be a lot of development left in the Canon budget going forwards. So they are designing like mad...while they still can.
I haven't yet had a chance to try one of these lenses, and I'd very much like to try one. But...regardless of how good it is...I'm not happy about the £3K UKP price or the need for a £2400 UKP camera body that isn't that great ergonomically. A 5D4 is a far far better camera for a similar price point.

Panasonic Launches New LUMIX S Series Full-frame Mirrorless Cameras LUMIX S1R and LUMIX S1

Panasonic is known for video as is Sony, I hope buyers research the limitations of contrast detect for autofocusing during video, its not pretty.

Every single broadcast ENG camera from Panasonic or Sony that I was using in the 90's/2000's was fitted with either a Canon or Fuji/Fujinon lens. They were great at the recorder and sensor portion of the camera, but their lenses were lackluster (if even really available for purchase). There's still a lack of interoperability with 3rd party (non-native mount) lenses from both Sony and Panasonic to an extent. Lenses from a wide range of manufacturers will "work" but many of the selling features will not work appropriately when using with an adapter. It's better than it was, but it's still not quite right.

I love DPAF from Canon and if they continue to improve, combined with their color science they'll be headed in the right direction. Still unsure where this RF mount and R series mirrorless is really heading and at what prices with what features (or lack of features). Those that haven't jumped ship at least have a reason to stick around a little longer to see what's available.

Disable Touch AF

I have a R and a 5D MK IV. The MK IV does not change exposure when moving the AF point when in DSLR mode, my R does. So do recent M series cameras as has been noted.

But ... When I put my MK IV in live view where it uses the dual pixel sensor to compute exposure, then exposure does change as the AF point is moved, same as the R. I did not notice that with my 5D MK III.

The exposure semi linked to AF point is definitely one of the things I like with the R. I've tested this before, but, since the camera is right here with me, I tried it again. Using touch AF, I keep the camera in the same place, and watch it change exposures as I touch areas of the screen with different amounts of lighting. It does not matter which exposure mode is used, exposure changes when the AF point is moved to a area lighter or darker while the camera is not moved.
Interesting! I wonder why Canon has decided to link exposure to the chosen AF point in all auto-exposure modes on the 5DIV and the EOS R? I have to say it seems an odd decision, although maybe that is just because I've become used to how it not being that way. If I get a chance to play with an EOS R of 5DIV at any stage, I'll have to experiment with it.

Here’s an updated list of unreleased Canon gear

From another thread regarding Sony: https://gizmodo.com/sony-please-dont-give-up-on-gadgets-1826205738

I've heard it before - is there any risk associated with jumping to Sony. I'd be concerned enough not to jump ship and invest heavily. I don't see it as a big risk but to me Canon is the most secure place to be and so I accept some shortcomings.

One last round of EOS body upgrades left?

In 2019 digital Range Finders are only sold by Leica. Due to very small volume film cameras do not even merit a camera ship count by CIPA.

And did Canon ship SLR and Rangefinder systems are the same time for 50 years?

The 1 more generation of upgrade assumption of this thread only considered the 1D, 5D, 5Ds and 7D high-end DSLRs.

While writing this post I did further research on all the DSLRs Canon is currently selling, which includes consumer DSLRs, If Canon were to mirror their FD to EF transition exactly then they are doing so right now. The T60 FD camera that came out after the EF system debuted was a consumer SLR, Canon Rebel equivalent. Canon did not release any more high end FD cameras after the EF system was introduced.

The 1D, 5D, 5Ds or 7D have not received an upgrade in over 4 years while Canon Rebel cameras have received upgrades even after the RF system was released. So it is sadly possible that Canon has ceased R&D for any future high-end DSLR and shifted all their resource to the RF system.

If no more high-end DSLRs are released before July 2020 then do not expect them anymore. The system may have factory support until at most the year 2039.
My statement is for film cameras as a group. Not specific for Canon. In the 1930's Leica was making range finder camera while Exakta was making SLR. later LOTS of company started to make either RF or SLR. Canon was making both for along time. The last Leica film camera, M6 TTL was made until 2002 while SLR rules the market. So my "over 50 years" has already ruled out the infancy period and the 'slow diminish period'

Canon thinks the camera market will drop by another 50% over the next two years

Has anyone been able to read the Nikkei interview? It is in Japanese & behind a paywall as far as I can tell.
My interest is that a 50% drop seems hard to reconcile with #ome of the projections in the information provided in Canon’s financial projections.
If anybody knows of a site with the interview or significant extracts, I would be interested
Thanks, Bert
PS: one extract fyi

The RF 35mm f1.8 STM: This lens makes Full Frame to a travel option...

I had a similar experience when I got my 6D2. I went out in front of the house that night and shot pictures of the blooms on bushes with only the light that spilled over from the front porch and from the light down the street. Everything was set to "Auto." The blooms near the front are very sharp and the color was not even that bad at ISO 40,000. Of course it was noisy as all getout, but tamable in Photoshop.

How do you get the listed maximum burst?

I shoot in cRaw+JPEG and the camera always indicates a max burst of 31 shots- but the manual says I should get 55-56? This is even with a uhs-2 card (Sandisk). Are there certain settings that hamper the max burst?

Simple steps to get 51 shots in burst:

1) Set your EOS R to cRaw+JPEG
2) Set shutter speed to <500/th second
3) Make sure focus priority is not set to "focus"
4) Put the EOS R in its box
5) Take out your 7D Mark II
6) Start shooting :)

Seriously, it might be that the higher spec of 55 frames is based on you putting the camera into servo mode, which may reduce the fps to as low as 3, which would allow the buffer to keep up with the card much more. Not the answer you want, but that technically might get you into the 50s, just without the sort of burst you were hoping for.

Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II replacement to have 8K option [CR1]

After I wrote my last post, I found a technically more detailed description on DPR:

https://www.dpreview.com/news/14404...t-8k-organic-image-sensor-with-global-shutter

Sometimes it is still worth checking DPR. I stopped doing that frequently, because for Canon users it is too troll-toxic there now. We all know about the pros and cons of sticking with Canon anyway.

Canon announcements coming February 14, 2019? [CR2]

Yup, but if they had better market insight, they could have put these products out sooner and would not have to play catch-up now.
There is no such thing as "market insight". The market by its nature is trial and error. Sometimes it is good to let someone else make these errors.

That would have gained them more money in the past few years (i.e. all the FF sales Sony has made prior to EOS-R introduction).
How much extra money would they need to spend on it, and how much would they get in return?

5dmk4 two months in ...

Did you do an on-off-on cycle with the batteries that had been on the shelf? It has been my experience with older batteries that pretty much everything will read 99-100% when first inserted in a camera after having been in a charger. But after the camera actually measures the voltage (instead of reading the chip that says "just charged to 100%") the numbers will often be significantly lower if the battery has been on a shelf for a while.
Just got back from a trip and did not use my 3 backup batteries. So I just looked and the 2016/2017 batteries were at 94% and the 2013 battery read 97%.

But, I think we are getting pretty into the weeds (although I do like testing and actual numbers). As a former 5DIII and 7D owner, I could pick up my camera and still have significant battery life even if I had not used it in weeks. I pick up my 5DIV after I haven't used it and I often have 40-70% battery life remaining.

That said, when shooting on a full battery, there are times when I can shoot >1000 shots on a single battery. Other times, ~400 shots. The only trend I have noticed is that anything using the screen tends to really affect the performance (live view/video).

But, overall, no complaints. I often sit here an think while reading some posts about Canon's dire future how I could likely shoot with my current kit for the foreseeable future and be very happy.

Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro...the Ugly Bokeh KING?

Absolutly GREAT article. Wow was that a joy to read and look at.

The lens certainly has its uses...for me, this lens didn't work out. I would much rather carry around my FD 35mm f/2 S.C.C. and adapter when I travel - it's more fun and provides more optical character. (God that sounds so hipster, but it's true.) For me - looking for a smaller 35mm - I thought it would be a great lens for the EOS R when I travel. It wasn't for me and I didn't like using it at all nor did I feel I was happy with the majority of the photos. Every lens has its sweet spot, as I pointed out. This lens with its macro ability is very unique. But I fear that providing this macro capability may have impacted its rendering for general purpose photography? I really don't know.
