Here’s the Canon EOS RP and EG-E1 extension grip

Buy a smaller body, but plug-in a extension grip to make it bigger.....Why not buy R?!
Because now you have a choice between a smaller body or a bigger body with better grip for larger hands and better balance for bigger lenses. No brainer. You don't have to use it.

canon st-e3 rt and speed light 600 basic flash compensation question

First I'd just like to say that's a great creative use of your speedlites and it's given me some ideas already.
My only suggestion is have you tried putting several into the same group and just adjusted the distance to subject for each instead of adjusting the power individually? Then you could only need to change one group at one power level to affect several lights. Just a modest difference in light to subject distance will have the same change as a different power level.

EOS RP vs R vs M50 vs 1DX mk2

Hi, new guy here.

I got curious to see side by side the specs of these great cameras. The recent 3 mirrorless, and the king. To me it is amazing how the king stands up, after so much time. It gives me hope about the "lasting" of the gear.

Here is the chart, in a dropbox PDF:
http://bit.ly/EOSRPvsEOSRvsEOSM50vs1DXMk2

pd. I am no attaching it, so I can update it.

By no means, I am no expert, and the chart is the result of the info available, there are few things that stand out:
Every camera uses it's own battery type, so there we go, collecting batteries.
For the EOS RP, how Canon is being more specific of the need of RF lenses to achieve 4k -kindaish make sense-

I am wondering what the P stands for in the RP.

If there is something I can improve please let me know.

Thank you for your time.

Infographic: What Happened to the Camera Industry in 2018?

The drop in DSLR sales in far higher than the increased sales in mirroless, thereby they could have cannibalized only a fraction of that. Without knowing which types of DSLR sold less (low-end? High-end? Models in the middle?), it's hard to tell.

Did phones start to eat into low-end DSLR models sales? If so they could hit low-end mirrorless as well. Are customers post-poning upgrades waiting to see how the market configures itself between DSLR and mirrorless models - especially when they have new mounts?

Canon CEO noted mirrorless camera sales aren't adding to its bottom line, but are instead eating into the sales of DSLRs. This may very well have played into the reason Canon opted to release only one mirrorless camera in 2018 and doesn't appear to be in a rush to get many more out by the end of 2019. It may have also been a factor in both Canon and Nikon taking so long to get into the full-frame mirrorless market; if all the capital put towards research and development (R&D) is only going to cannibalize your money makers, there's not much need to rush the new technology. - DPREVIEW

Looking at the transition from FD to EF mount, CIPA sales figures of the last 8 years, Canon CEO's January 2019 interview leads me to believe that the window of opportunity of another generation of DSLR refreshes will close by July 2020.

If none appears then expect Nikon & Canon to go all out for their new Z mount and RF mount full frame mirrorless camera systems.

Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro to be offered as an EOS RP kit lens in Japan

As an R owner with the lots of EF glass, the RF24~105, and the RF35, the RP will be a great entry point.
I carry my R with the 35 which makes the 24~105 feel huge. The EF50 stm on control ring adapter makes a great normal lens but my style runs more toward 35 anyway.
YES! offer the RP with RF35 and make the entry point to modern full frame photography affordable to all!
PS: I'll bet the RP will outperform the 6D-II in real world usage...

Recommended a good versatile lens.

Buy the Canon 10-18 for ~$300, and add another $100 for ND and polarizing filters, a good tripod with a pan head and you've still got nearly $1000 for other "stuff". I'd save that money until the R line is a little more complete before making a big investment in new lenses.
24-105 was my first L.
Which is like 38 to 168mm on a ApS-C. It was a huge step up in terms of image quality. A second hand version would be fine and last you years.

Samyang to expand their autofocus lens selection for Canon ahead of CP+

Yes, let's take a look at the lens weight shall we (from TDP). All Ls versus Sigma Sport/Art except for 105mm where Nikon's f/1.4 is used as a comparison.

Lens Canon Sigma
14mm 22.6 (2007) 39.2 (2017)
24mm 24 (2008) 24.5 (2015)
35mm 27.9 (2015) 24.5 (2012)
50mm 22.1 (2006) 30.2 (2014)
85mm 34.2 (2017) 41.8 (2016)
105mm Nikon 36.5 61.8 (2017)
135mm 27.5 (1996) 42.4 (2017)
24-70 29.5 (2012) 37.2 (2017)
70-200 57.9 (2018) 66.9 (2018)

So, let's see... yes, the Sigma's do generally weight significantly more than Canon, especially for lens 2016 and after. Granted the Sigma 14mm has a significantly larger max aperture than the Canon, but I think the trend is pretty clear in Del Paso's favor. So who is cherry picking data now?
Thanks for the data but I'm not following your narrative, or perhaps there's gaps in your explanation that I can't make sense of.

If you explain in detail, I would like you to create a scenario where a photographer would carry all 9 lenses at the same time; hence, the reason you listed out all of the lenses?. While that's a wild assumption, which is unlikely a competent photog would do but that's where the gaps may be to your narratives. Again, in 2008 when the 5D mark ii set the a high benchmark for FF, in use of photo and video, 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8IS was a popular set of lenses people (including myself) own and use. When the 5D mark iii came out w/ higher resolution, limiting ourselves to w/ 35mm f/1.4L and 85mm f/1.8 was feasible.

Back to my original point about competition - there's even more demand now (due to high res sensor) for people to shoot primes. Prime lenses are profitable to make and a lot less complex to design and manufacturer. Again, I'm not making a point about the brands and I've owned Canon, Sigma, and Samyang at one point in time - they're just tools, but I like to replace them at a reasonable costs and competitions are good for consumers like myself.

EOS R + Speedlite @ F1.8

Just tried in Av with ETTL and f1.2 with the RF and it’s properly exposed. Have you changed exposure compensation for the flash?

I unfortunately have no EF lenses to test with the adapter.
No, no FEC applied. Once I change aperture to F2.0 - image is properly exposed.
Don't have RF lenses to test. Maybe I'll go to the camera shop to try that.

500px and Fotolog sites compromised, user data stolen and being sold

Among other sites, 500px and Fotolog has been compromised in July and December 2018 respectively, and user data are being sold by miscreant.

500px is notifying users of the breach, while Fotolog didn't yet, but it could take some time to be notified.

For 500px, the data being sold include the username, email address, MD5-, SHA512- or bcrypt-hashed password, hash salt, [these are password storage techniques] first and last name, and if provided, birthday, gender, and city and country.

For Fotolog, information including email addresses, SHA256-hashed passwords, security questions and answers, full names, locations, interests, and other profile information.

The advice is to change passwords, not only on these sites, but on any site where the same user/password may have been reused, and of course also data like security questions.

Need guidance from seniors

5D3 and 5D4 are outstanding cameras and you can't go wrong either way. I used 5D3 for a few years and have had pictures from it enlarged to 40x60 inches in my home. I now use two 5D4's and they are slightly better, especially in focus tracking (and switching focus arrays with the new back toggle switch), but if you don't do action or fast wildlife then the 5D3 will be great. I bought both of my 5D4's from the Canon refurbished site, which is a good option (maybe they have 5D3 as well?).

Thoughts on the Canon EOS R roadmap

I think they should change whole viewfinder consept on cameras .
Viewfinder should be moved to left corner so you can get better vision for left eye .
There would be old fashioned mechanical cross hair aimer for left eye to center camera.
you know how difficult its aim flying bird with long tube.if you dont get it immediately to view ,then you need check with other eye where it went.
Electrical viewfinder for right eye would be just 1000 pixel one to show profile lines for composition and AF red dots .
You dont really need see all details or colors to take photograph .All that is away from shooting speed .and photoediting speed
Like two different viewfinder mode ,normal mode and low resolution sketch mode ,would be nice option.

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM

I love this lens! It's sharp wide open, has an accurate autofocus and is very well balanced on my M5. And it looks nice, too. I did some comparisons with my 50mm 1.2 on my 5DIII and was shocked on how much sharper the 32mm most of the time is.
With this lens in my kit, I grew to love my M5 more. Together with the great 11-22mm, the handy 22mm and the (more rarely used) 55-200mm I'm almost perfectly happy. Maybe a 53mm f/1.4 would do the trick.

Canon RF 50mm F1.2L USM

Just got home from a soccer tournament my son and his team attended, I have only the RF50 which is less than ideal for soccer, but can get very close to the “around the goal” shots. I can’t show any pictures as it feature other people’s kids, but it demolished my 1dx2, I’ve shot in the same venue a few times previously with the 1dx and 1dx2 and they did not do fantastic. I counted the number of hits and it is 98% hit at f1.2! I’m blown away, and the focus is so dead on and they are so sharp! Wow!
