I kicked sigma out after using there 50mm, I will take a Tamron over it simple cause Tamron is like canon galss only without a red ring and a L with a L price. This would be a good glass.

I thought about that, but the problem is that the problem is random. It doesn't happen every time. I am using OEM batteries now to see if the problem happens again or not. I use Wasabi batteries and they are decoded so the 7D2 "sees" them as OEM batteries. I have other aftermarket batteries that are not decoded so my 7D2 displays a warning at startup.

I'm that other person who ran into identical issues with a 7DII...the allegedly decoded third party LP-E6 batteries are headed for landfill. They're a creativity hazard. I'd suggest you do the same. It's 100% OEM batteries from this day on.

So what happens when you ask the camera to format the card? Or should it better be formatted using a slot drive? One should think Canon and others let the camera do a low level format in this case (not that software is their strong side).

If tethering an Android device is possible in some of your shooting you can do this super-easily and control even the older 1Ds3 from a $9 application: "dSLR Controller". I do this on interiors all the time, although I also attach my faster laptop on some of these shoots to use the Canon software instead. I have a couple 1Ds3's for this work.

My used Samsung 10.1 Note 2014 has a wonderful screen and the screen size is fun for all kinds of camera control. Clients are amazed! Light enough to clamp to a tripod, although I have to come up with the "holder" - one area where the wide adoption of iPads helps - but not helpful to Android users.

To repeat: this is Android only, but so cheap some shooters buy a used tablet to be a dedicated view/control device.

I dont know how much they will settle and how quickly. We've had fast/significant price changes in the last couple years because of the Yen's falling value against USD. It's gone from 80:1 to 120:1 since 2012 when the 1DX came out. It's seems to have settled for the time being. Canon may do some rebates here and there, but I wouldn't expect prices to fall in the first year (unless the Yen falls to 140-150)

Not to mention 1D4 and 1Ds III owners. Perhaps even some 5D3 owners too. Not sure how many 1DX owners will upgrade in the first year though. I think the major users in news houses who are already over 400k shutter actuations may ;-) Beauty with Canon is that these things have a 3-4 year life cycle anyway.

Anodising can sometimes be dry so the engineers trick is to put a tiny amount of lanoline on a cloth and rub it into the filter ring threads NEVER on the lens threads. The lens threads may get a build-up of fine dust and tiny skin particles just lightly dampen a clean cloth with water and wipe the threads your be surprised at what comes off.

Our technicians clean hundreds of lenses, never use graphene, grease or any cleaner like WD40 they all leave residue. When we disemble lenses and need to clean parts we use purified water in an ultrasonic bath and a purpose dryer.

If Canon would announce the follow up of a 50mm when do you guys think this would be?

I voted dual CFast because when machine gunning the buffer will empty faster.

To be frank, after a minor breeze through Lightroom...I don't think you could tell finished images apart...even at 100%. By that I mean stopped down, hand held wide open...there is very little between them except fringing and local contrast. The opacity and CA sliders usually resolves those. I think the big difference for me would be the AF reliability, especially in low tungsten light. I've had some night mare experiences with Sigma...so I stay in the Canon fold because I believe in their science a lot more than I do with Sigma's.

While I generally agree, I do wonder why the same lens on the Canon seems to have a dimmer T stop value than they the same lens it attached to a Nikon. The vignetting is worse too on Canon...hmmm.

hmm. it should not be nosier than your 40D.

however keep in mind you are looking at a 10mp image and now looking at a 18mp image.

what are your camera jpg defaults? your raw converter could be picking those up and applying them to the raw file.

also turn off ALO and HTP if they are on as they will create more noise. if that is what you are concerned about.

you should be fine with having DPP chroma noise slider set to 2 .. 6 .. something else is up - check ALO and HTP. you should be able to tell in DPP if they are turned on or not - and/or check the camera.

If you want to try this sort of thing get an old Takumar 55/1.8 off e bay for about $30 and a simple M42-EF mount.

I got into photography by accident really. Never had much interest in it...

In 2011 I had a blog, and wanted to take photos for it. The only camera I had was on my (first generation!) iPhone, which was terrible, so I decided to get a 'proper' camera - a DSLR (though like most laymen it was mostly that DSLRs had an aura, when I could probably have done just as well with a compact or bridge camera). I got the cheapest secondhand one I could find on eBay - a battered old 300D with the kit lens. But the image quality was so much better than anything I'd had before, I was very pleased.

Didn't use it all that much for the first year. Got a telephoto zoom, but I had very little idea what I was doing, so never got much out of it. Later I bought a couple more secondhand lenses.

But it was really the following year I started exploring, and accidentally taking an interest in birds, and photographing them. That led me to a series of improvements in my kit - longer lenses, extenders, a better camera (the 50D), and so on. From that point, it became something of an obsession, and I spent hundreds of hours reading the theory, reviews and forums, and especially trawling through Flickr.

The last couple of years I've spent mostly with the same equipment, but learning new techniques - astro image stacking, focus stacking, HDR, panorama stitching - and honing my fieldcraft and knowledge, travelling to new places and suchlike. I've not got bored of it yet, and I don't think I ever will now

Buy a very large card. Why would you format it? Is it too full to do another shoot. If so, do a low level format. If it has plenty of space left, don't format it, use it until remaining space is limited and do a low level format. That keeps it out of the overwrite mode.

A in camera format makes the files invisible to you, but they are still there. That's why file recovery software works, it merely asks you to provide a name for the files and copies them to your computer.

The card itself has a controller internally that tries to give equal use to all memory cells, so additional files are usually written to the blank cells before overwriting existing ones, but its sporadic, so you see hiccups' as it decides to overwrite cells and slows way down.

That's why pros prefer CF cards, you don't see that happening, and don't need to low level format to regain your speed.

I think that statement alone makes the purchase of a Sigma dock imperative, if not, why would you even review Sigma lenses. If 59$ breaks your bank maybe lens reviews should be left to others.

If it was considered imperative by Sigma they would include it in the box.

I've used three sigma lenses:

100mm macro - Just fine...no major issue but didn't have it long
30mm F1.4 DX (non-art)...focused alright in some conditions and some targets but my confidence was never high with the lens. I was always hoping it would perform ok and sometimes it would...other times...not so much.
35mm F1.4 ART - Terrible focus performance. I tried the dock...but like others have said you can't fix something that is inconsistent. When it hit...it was great...when it missed it was WAY out of focus. To make matters worse this lens was a lens in their refurb store which means they evaluated it and considered it ok. After this lens I swore to myself I'd avoid Sigma in the future.

When I have a lens that isn't consistent I find myself shooting test targets more than shooting things I actually care about because I am always trying to dial the lens in to "fix" it. I've since gotten the 35mm F2.0 IS and it does wonderfully. Focus is spot on. It may not have F1.4 but like others have said its worthless if the lens doesn't focus correctly. I'd love to get the 35mm F1.4 II but its out of my price range at the time. Maybe at some point I'll make the upgrade.

nightscape123 is clearly implying that Canon is using patents to control the markets, and that receiving patents is nothing to be proud of. It's a very VERY short step to infer that he thinks patents are inherently bad.
