*UPDATE*

It looks like Leica will be holding an event on October 20, 2015 in Wetzlar, Germany.

For more than 100 years, our thoughts and actions, and our passion, have been dedicated to only one thing – creating the perfect picture. With products that are always focused on “Das Wesentliche”, the essentials, we provide photographers around the world with the ideal tools for capturing the decisive moment and for bringing their own vision to life. This tradition is what drives us to achieve and gives us the power to reinvent ourselves time and again. The outcome is a portfolio of cameras and lenses that redefine the status quo as we know it and have one thing in common, despite a century of progress: a focus on “Das Wesentliche” – in other words, the picture.

We cordially invite you to a celebration of photography in the the spirit of “Das Wesentliche”. From October 20, 6:30 p.m. on until October 21, approximately 1:00 p.m, everything in the Leitz Park in Wetzlar will revolve around the fascinating nature of pictures and the exclusive presentation of a new milestone in the Leica Camera product range. Be one of the first to experience the next chapter in the history of professional photography, a historic moment that begins right here and now and will shape the future. Enjoy a delightful atmosphere and a special photographic program with friends of Leica, photographers, artists, media, and prominent and international guests – in other words, with all those who, just like you, breathe life into the fascination that is Leica.

It looks like a new Leica system is going to be coming for PhotoPlus next month, and it’ll be called the Leica SL. The new camera system is likely going to replace the T and X lines down the road.

About the Leica SL:

Full Frame

Interchangeable AF lenses

Not an M replacement

Bulkier than the Q & M cameras

EVF

Lighter weight than the M

Bundled with Summicron 50 f/2

In-body stabilization

Priced around $8000

I honestly can’t wait to see this system. I think the Leica Q was a home run for what it is.

Best wishes and a good recovery.Mt Spokane Photography said:I am home, with my 2nd eye still closed but ready to remove the tape. I expect to have much brighter and clearer vision, and no longer see thru the Tobacco Stain colored lens.
As you surely know from your first surgery it'll take some time 'till you've adapted the changes again.I definitely will be seeing different colors, but have yet to feel that I'd need to re-edit any of my photos to correct the color.

Well there is already interface called A-DEP. I don't see why it can't be automatic in green modes.keithcooper said:Good luck with any user interface on that one
Never underestimate the ineptitude and lack of understanding of your audience when designing 'easy' interfaces for complex kit.
Yes. Someday. Now there's very heavy pixel tradeoff (if you need 4x depth you need 16x number of pixels) and exit pupil of the lens has to be coupled with the sensor which makes it er... limited to fixed lens cameras.keithcooper said:Light field and computational imaging will eventually be far more flexible for any 'Auto' modes, and not need the complexities (and limitations) of moving tilting elements.
Why not. Some people still enjoy shooting film and manual lenses when there's digital and AF.keithcooper said:Even then I suspect I'll still be enjoying my "fully manual heavy expensive kludges"

If you choose the center point only, does your camera then provide the option to prioritize initial focus acquisition on a potential subject at 10 feet versus a potential subject at 5 feet, if both subjects are detectable by the sensor? I may be wrong, but I don't think so.
Your thoughts are mostly right but the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM with its aperture starting at 3.5 set the standard.moreorless said:PA_phoxerballzz said:cosmopotter said:It is POSSIBLE that it could be a replacement for the long-in-the-tooth EF-S 10-22 USM... afterall, the 10-18 is quite new and quite cheap.
True, but as far as speed, nothing differentiates this patent from the current 10-22. In fact, it's slower!
I guess for UWA fun, I'll have to get a full frame with the 16-35 f4.
Is speed really a key issue for UWA's on APSC though? that nobody but Tokina have ever made a fast UWA zoom for APSC does seem to suggest its a niche market.
9mm obviously offers a notable advantage over 10mm and means Canon edge out Nikons 15mm equivalent on there 10-24mm with 1.5 crop factor with 14.5mm.
If the 80D really pushes resolution then an update to the 10-22mm does seem to be needed badly.
Alan I remember you from previous posts. I do believe that since you have tried so many combinations you are more than qualified to have an opinion which by the way I value. It was just the TDP site which seemed to contradict a little.AlanF said:Peterpilot said:I agree with you, the results looks rather similar. What camera are you using your 100-400 II on?
And by the way, how do I reply on a post without getting all these previous quotes?
If you use "Quote" to reply, you have remove the quotes tediously and systematically by removing all the " /quote " (in square brackets) except the last after what you want to quote, and all the previous until the very first, in your case square bracket quote author=Peterpilot link=topic=27742.msg548064#msg548064 date=1442857589 square bracket. Alternatively, just click on "Reply" and save yourself the trouble.
I understand where the queries concerning the MTFs arise. They are similar. My reasoning for the 100-400mm being better for the APS-C 560/600mm data close to the centre was: the 300mm x2 at f/5.6 has an average MTF for sag and merid of 0.484 and f/8 0.524. There is astigmatism for both as the sag and merids do not converge. For the 100-400 II at f/8 the average is 0.507 with astigmatism but at f/11 it is 0.538 with no astigmatism.
I have the 300mm f/2.8 II and the 100-400mm II so I have no owners bias to either lens and love them both.

Whilst the focus accuracy is generally very good I have had several times where the focus stops working all together and even more times where the camera decides to blackout for at least 10 seconds. There are still many issues to be worked out with these cameras.
I thought that was a metabones thing but mine does that occasionally with native glass too. Buggy firmware I hope.
The thing I notice with the adapter more frequently is the camera not knowing the max aperture. It will display -- rather than an f number, and I have to power cycle. It typically happens after the camera sleeps. Maybe it doesn't supply enough power to the adapter to hold the lens info.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. I haven't noticed any issues with max aperture yet but I have noticed that 1.8 is displayed as 1.7 on the Sony for some reason. The Sony cameras seem to be full of weird issues.
