Yongnuo's Flash System? ETTL system only

I have two YN560 (originals, not I, II or III) and two YN568 II. I can't rave enough about them, especially for the price. Only problem that I have with them is the YN568 II's I have suffer from the battery door problem, but they have replaced this since Oct 2013 I believe.

I use old RF-602 for manual triggers when needed, but usually use the Canon 90ex flash as a commander for ETTL, HSS, and remote power control and it all works beautifully. Never had a misfire or any kind of overheating issues.

Highly recommended.

POLL: 16-35mm f/2.8L III - filter size vs sharpness (hypothetical)

timcz said:
I'd be suprised if a 16-35 2.8 v3 will come at all. As much as i'd love one to, I suspect the next UWA we will see will be something similar to Nikons 14-24 with a fairly non-filterable bulbous element.

I would think this is most likely, as I'm sure users of the 14-24 may be unhappy if the new lens only goes to 16mm. And, given the size difference between the 14-24 and 16-35, they are aimed at different markets.

Since the 14-24 range is a gap for Canon, I would assume they would fill that first and wait at least a few years before revisiting the 16-35 II to avoid one sabotaging the sales of the other.

Tamron 150-600 f/5-6.3 Di VC USD - Canon Mount - Any news?

Roo said:
It seems there has finally been another shipment into Australia. A mate in Adelaide picked up his today after ordering it in late Feb.
I heard that Tamron underestimated the demand for the lens and that the production line is limited by the speed that they can grind/polish the big lens element....

Primelens 24mm for landscape?

daniela said:
I am looking for am prime lens (<800€) to shoot landscape. Cam is an Eos 6D.
I own an Tokina 4 12-24 and the Canon 28-70 2.8L.
Would the 24mm 2.8 Canon lens a good choice?Other suggestions?

Thanks
Daniela

Hello Daniela,
What do you expect from the prime that Tokina 12-24 can't give you for landscape? What aperture would you be shooting - f/8 until f/11? Is sharpness accross the frame (thus including the borders/extreme borders) a must?
And - compare with previous shots - what is the most focal length you have used for landscape. You will know whether it is 24mm or other FL. Did you compare the 24 f/2.8 with the Tokina at 24? And compared at f/8 until f/11? TDP may have such comparison. I did not check it.

FUJIFILM'S latest, X-T1 ?

Sella174 said:
One day after making the previous post, the camera store called and said my X-T1 had arrived. I've been playing with it for eight days now (two of which were in pouring rain), using my old Asahi Takumar lenses as my only lenses, i.e. MF all the way. My assessment, seeing that this is a forum dedicated to Canon gear, and you may freely quote me, is simply: "Goodbye Canon."

I really like shooting with my pile of Fuji gear. The Xt1 is nice small and very capable little camera. A bit of a battery hog but that's to be expected.
Still I went out on a shoot recently and have to say, overall, I still have a slight preference for shooting my D800s and other high quality SLR bodies.
However, if I want to travel light, an xt1, 2 xe1s and half a dozen lenses fit in a tiny little nylon bag with spare batteries, charger, blower bulb and some filters that would easily qualify as carry-on luggage and I can tote around all day without getting tired.
The Fujis are, so far for me, THE best compromise of image quality per size and weight and I'll confidently put them up against any Canon FF for the kind of shots I usually need to take.

Flourine lens coat vs no coat

The Canon 24-70mm Mark II apparently doesn't have fluorine coatings, as seen in image 1
Or does it???
(from the Canon USA EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM page)

Canon is annoyingly inconsistent and inaccurate about this kind of stuff (just look for the lenses with Super UD elements in them throughout their websites and brochures), but this page has 2 references - the text and the FASC logo which stands for Fluorine Anti-Smear Coating, I think.

And the North America lens manual is pretty clear as well. See both attached below:

Thanks mackguyver! But Neuro was a little faster in correcting my mistake. ;)

Off Brand: Sony Announces the A7 & A7R Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras

Yes, the Sony FE 70-200/4 OSS is "80 grams HEAVIER and slightly LARGER than Canon EF 70-200 /4 L IS", but following are the reasons why I went with the Sony FE version:

I already have the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II, so I don't want another EF lens of the same FOL

Although I really like the EF 70-200, if I want to use it on my a7 or a6000, I need to use my metabones adapter which takes away the weight & size advantage and not to mention slow AF

Being a native lens the Sony FE 70-200 f/4 OSS auto focuses really fast and accurately like a machine gun on my a6000
So, for me, the above considerations are worth spending the extra money on the FE 70-200 f/4 OSS

I totally agree. Had i bought an A7/R i would also have purchased native lenses with at least halfway decent AF. However, i find sony lens pricing even more outrageous than canon's. Not only fe lenses but also other zeiss branded glass as well as almost all of the sony G lenses (a-mount).

Lens choice is one more reason why i would really like to see and buy a canon FF MILC ... along with a) decent mid-price lenses and b) outstanding high-price L's ... Like 70-200 2.8 II and 4 is, 24-70 2.8 II and 4 IS ... Of course in a new native short flange distance mount.

Canon USA Announces EOS C300 Autofocus Upgrade Availability

Most likely it would be available as an option on new bodies I expect. Something like either buy a C300 at the old price or a C300-X for $350 more (the price difference being the service cost for old bodies being upgraded).

The C300 is old tech however, so we can anticipate that it will be superseded by more modern models in the near future in order tor remain competitive. The C300 upgrade IMO is a temporary stopgap to accommodate the gap between what they have now and the arrival of more modern camera bodies.

Musicvideo - "Der Erlkönig" filmed with Canon 5D III and a drone

I think you did very well for your first. I really like the aerial shots you got. I think the aerial really helped keep in interesting so it wasn't just more of the same shot. I think it would have cool to have tighter shots of the bow on the strings, or tighter shots of his fingers on the strings, and maybe a couple more super wide slider shots of him. But it turned out very well for what it is. Good Job

Canon 85mm both front and back focussing issue ?

Took it out again today after perfecting AMFA at home at -10 on the 5D2

Heres the results

Yet i had to go back to 0 to get it sharp - go figure ??

I noticed that you indicated that you were adjusting it handheld. That's not going to give good results, and many methods rely on your vision to select the sharpest image, which adds another variable. Then, the 50mm f/1.4 is well known for inconsistent autofocus, so its never quite in the same place on each photo.

Put all these together, and you will be tearing your hair out.

Here is something to read concerning the complexities of trying to get accurate AFMA, and gives you some information as to why so many struggle.

There are a ton of factors to consider, something as simple as image content will cause a shift in autofocus.

It wasnt hand held all adjustments were made with timer on tripod at home and were accurate , then out in the field it changed again

College student needs help deciding what camera body to get.

Judgements about money aside, you are in the middle of riots and mosh pits with multi-thousand dollar cameras that are large, easily damaged, and easily stolen? Sorry, that's just nuts.

You are shooting editorials for print, you don't need the resolution or color accuracy for wall size art gallery prints. If it were me, I'd be looking at something like a used Rebel T3/T3i (or if you don't have to have Canon, a Pentax K-30 which takes incredible pictures and can be had for just under $400 *new* on sale) with a cheap but capable do-it-all lens such as the Sigma 18-250.

If you are willing to step away from DSLR for your assignments, take a look at the Sony A6000 and see if it works for you. The DxO scores are very impressive, bettering a lot of the mid-range DSLRs out there.

EF 50 f/1.2L II Gets a Mention by Canon

Once Sigma 50 (Art) will get rid of theirs AF issues… if so, it's going to be hard to Canon's engineers to bring something better to the market !

Right for now in a few focal lengths Canon is missing the crown
14-24
35
50

Please Canon hurry up and start doing something otherwise no budget will be transferred to "censors" R & D department and then we gonna lose great quality bodes !

Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM

My poor wee dogs ill so I never got the chance to venture out today with the new Sigma, but I picked the wife up and took this shot while I waited on her, there is a 77mm Circular Polariser on the lens, this is straight out the camera with zero mod’s (resized to 92% of original), ISO 200 f8 320sec handheld, I’m delighted with the lack of vignetting in the corners!! The IQ is also quite good, have a look at the ultra-cropped version; I think this is very acceptable clarity for that distance! All in all i'm a happy shopper :D
I’d be glad to hear anyone else’s views.

Nice image! You can see the NBD and Etisalat's main building. :D
