Zoom-walking, Walk-zooming

I do a lot of low light photography with a f/2-f/1.4 aperture. Fortunately, I photograph at theatre rehersals and I can walk all over the theatre, even up on stage if I really need to.
There is no question that moving around changes the perspective, but then, that's what I want.
I could, of course, just sit in the middle of the theatre with a f/2.8 zoom and ISO 25800 and get a lot of noisy images, all with the same perspective. As it is, ISO 6400 ot 12800 is still sometimes required.

D600 vs. leaked 6D specs: a comparison

The extra 1 FPS is a point for Nikon.

The D600 also has a 25,600 ISO (Hi-2) - http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25488/D600.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-TechSpecs = draw

So I think they are still in a dead heat, but the Canon info is still rumor. We'll see where the prices, specs and reviews are in December or later.

5D III Autofocus

This might help, it's excerpted from this article:

Generally, an aperture value is associated with an AF line sensor. The terminology usually used is "f/number-sensitive", e.g, you may have an f/5.6-sensitive line sensor, or an f/2.8-sensitive line sensor. The f/number refers to the maximum aperture of the lens, because AF is performed with the lens wide open (i.e. the aperture you choose for the shot does not matter, only the max aperture of the lens). The use of 'sensitivity' in this context implies that light levels matter, because that's what we think of when we normally use f/numbers. In this case, though, a wider aperture simply means a wider baseline for the rangefinder system is required for that line to function. Personally, I think better terminology might be to use threshold instead of sensitivity, so an f/2.8-threshold line would require an f/2.8 lens to function, and if you mounted an f/4 lens, that sensor line would not operate. An f/5.6-threshold sensor would work with any lens having a max aperture of f/5.6 or wider.

Note that these thresholds are not absolute - a lens with a narrower aperture than the threshold might still work, but at reduced effectiveness, accuracy, and speed. Thus, Canon limits the functionality to the rated aperture for a given AF sensor. However, some third party lenses (e.g. Tamron and Sigma zooms with a max aperture of f/6.3 at the long end) effectively trick the AF system into thinking there's an f/5.6 lens attached. Likewise, although not condoned by Canon, it is possible to use tape to block some of the contacts on a Canon 1.4x extender used with an f/5.6 lens, resulting in the camera attempting to autofocus with an f/8 lens on bodies which are limited to f/5.6. Sometimes, it even works...

The -2 EV is another type of threshold, i.e., an f/2.8 line needs both an f/2.8 aperture baseline and at least -2 EV of light to function.

6D and crop feature

My biggest reluctance with getting a 7D is only the low light performance where it badly trails behind the likes of the D7000.
i cant see a huge difference in iq between d7000 and 7d sensor at high iso (2/3 of stop...maybe) and is AF, shutter lag, speed and so on the 7d is a better camera than d7000/d300s.
Not quite correct, there is a noticeable difference sensor-wise between Canon's 18mp and that sony 16mp across the whole spectrum, more so in Pentax's implemenation.
Plus 7d & d300 have the same fps and actually 7d has the worst shutter lag of all 3 (.45 vs .54 vs .64) and despite its price its a single drive camera without spot linked meter. Having said that, i like the responsiveness of 7d's AF, the reach and the build but i've never recommended it cause there is just not a single iso setting without noise :(

I own the current version of the Tamron 90mm Macro. It is pretty sharp. It suffers from some CA at 2.8 but still sharp and easy to fix in post. It would be nice to have VC so those hand held shots of bugs or flowers could be stopped down a little more.

The 70-200 upgrade will be interesting. Here is hoping they try to compete with Canon's 70-200L IS II in terms of image quality.

if the new 24-70 vc is representative, I am not too worried about their glass, which I think will be pretty good. I hope the AF and QC issues are fixed, because they really do offer great glass for 50% of Canon price.
+1
........ However, I am not got to buy it because I don't believe it will be as good as my Canon 70-200 F/2.8 IS MK2.

I do not think anyone expects that either. However, there are tons of photographers in USA and in every other country who cannot afford MK2 and for them it might be a very good option. I myself am quite interested. Let's see how it does in comparison to Sigma's OS offering. I am already very happy with their 70-300, let's see, I might finally decide to buy a 70-200 f/2.8......

I believe Tamron 70-200 will outperform Sigam OS one. Sigma used to be better than Tamron IMO. However, Tamron recently are really making some great lenses. The one you own 70-300 and the new 24-70 are very good.

*UPDATE* More Canon EOS 6D Specs Surface [CR1]

It won't surprise me if it's got a similar body construction to that of the 60D. If the plastic's good enough for glocks...

Very good point taperoo2k. Look at other industries and there are plastics used in all sorts of heavy duty applications like numerous guns and if it's good enough for guns it should be fine for a camera. Of course depending on the strength.
