German laws - verdict of the Federal Supreme Court (BGH) about photos in a museum

There is too much to see in the British Museum to waste much time taking pictures if you have only a day or two there. But it’s nice to know you can take some shots. I’m surprised that they let you use flash. That is usually prohibited in museums not only to keep from annoying others but also preserving things. There are probably exceptions posted.
My first thoughts about preservation against camera flashes was that the amount of light emitted in a flash is equivalent to a fraction of a second of daylight and so it would take millions of flashes to even equal the amount of damage from the lighting in a gallery. Here is an article to back up that the cumulative flashing would be negligible.

Being able to take photos is invaluable when you are researching a subject.

Curious minds wants to know...

I think a 7DIII that even marginally increases FPS , focussing performance and high ISO performance would sell well.
EOS-R is hampered by not really being backward compatible to EOS.
It will require a number of EOS-R cameras to move existing users across.
APS-C cameras are Canon's highest volume sales in cameras so EF will still be in demand there.
Canon could make a great 7D III

Teardown: Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III

Would be an obvious sideline - repair other peoples' stuff and rent them lenses while they're in for repair.

Given that they've already got the trained staff it'd be easy to start, as long as they limited the lenses they repaired to ones they stocked.

That assumes there's both enough trained staff and enough downtime currently to take on extra work. ISTR RogerCicala mentioning that the lens testing department alone had a huge backlog already.

EF Mount: Most verstatile mount?

I have used the 100-400 II with and without the 1.4tc and as long as focus limiter is set it is ok
If not then it needs some time to get there or a little manual assistance.

Used the 135f2 in low light and had some issues locking focus, again set the focus limit to 1.6m and it behaved better

200F2 is fine, just needs the grip to help with handling

5 axis IBIS coming to next Canon EOS R series camera [CR2]

Right, the fujirumors link refers specifically to 'high-end video' with rigs, dollies and cranes, not hand-held video. Plus, what was the number one complaint once the GH5S was actually in the field? It didn't have IBIS! Panasonic took a gamble since a) they already had several ILIS lenses, b) their target market was 'high-end video', and c) with a physically larger sensor they needed room so they could used the same body as GH5. Their target market was o.k. with the decision to leave IBIS out, but the rest of the photo world and many forum dwellers punished them severely.

The GH5S didn't have IBIS because the GH5 did. There were some instances where the IBIS was a flop for video purposes when shooting from a helicopter or having it mounted to a car. We had some nasty issues with it when shooting from a helicopter, even with IBIS off. Luckily, we had a GH4 with us and were able to salvage the shoot. The GH5 is the better run to gun camera, the GH5S works well for those who are rigging up the camera with external recorders, field monitors and using a big gimbal.

Given that the GH5S was aimed at the film industry, it wasn't a massive hit because the new Blackmagic camera with the same exact sensor at just over a half the cost of the GH5S. The Blackmagic also has better codecs, including RAW and the new incredible Blackmagic Raw. The Blackmagic has some incredible features that the GH5S is missing.

Weird lens behavior

Probably worth a go even though you may have already done it but give the gold contacts on both the lens and the camera a little clean. Chances are high of a fault though kit lenses are just that and can and often do break and become not worth repairing as its cheap enough just to get another second hand one.

Canon said to have scrapped at least one DSLR in development [CR2]

"8 frames per second" in One-Shot???

This is one of the most misleading specifications ever, pretty much false advertising.
Try it! Maybe it's possible. Woodpeckers can peck at up to 20 taps per second! :giggle:
But...Competitive shooters using a finely tuned semi-auto rifle are only getting off about 3 shots per second. Can a competitive photographer do better with a shutter button?

Would you buy this? (24-70 II with marks)

The front element is known for peeling of the lens coating, and, as I recall, its very expensive to fix. It is certain to cause issues in photos with bright lights, because the area of the lens will not reflect the bright lights as it should.

Check with Canon or a repair station about the cost to replace the front element. The cost to repair it could drive the price to higher than the cost of a new one.
