Out of the lenses you mention I would go for the 70-200 f2.8. It is an excellent lens, will provide you with a great range, and it is a staple for portraits shooters. I did have your exact setup, but I upgraded, and now have the 50L, 85L and 135L I still have a 70-200 f4 non-IS. And even though it was my first L lens, I just don't like lugging it around unless I really need it, since I don't do much event photography and have my portrait needs covered, I rarely use it. I actually just got the 85L instead of upgrading it to the 70-200L II. But I do have friend that swear by their 70-200's, they are very, very versatile, and until you find the focal length that you love, it is a great starting point. Good luck!

I still have the Canon 85/1.8 but mainly use the Tamron 85 VC because of the VC. It's a very fine lens, good at every aperture. I have no AF issues with the Tamron 85 VC. AF is as consistent as any Canon lens that I have.

I have no AF issues with the Sigma 35 or 50 Art lenses. AF is as consistent as any Canon lens that I have.

But ... the Sigma 24 Art is somewhat inconsistent. It seems to have more focus inconsistency than my Canon lenses.

All lenses calibrated with Reikan FoCal.

A body as cheap as possible. Used. An 1100D (free, practically) + Magilantern = extremely sophisticated 5K timelapse machine.

This way you can get 2-3-4 and get different angles and make the outcome much more dynamic.

7DII is waaaay overkill when a used 1100D/t3i will perfectly do the required job.

And no, don't fear reliability it's as reliable as canon's own firmware.

Versus the Panasonic g80, the EOS M5 has a bigger sensor, 24mp, much higher dynamic range (80d vs gh4), much better lowlight performance, better AF system, usable vs non-usable video AF, headphone jack, and most importantly Full compatibility with Canon glass for use as a 100℅ reliable B-cam for Canon glass,

Of course the g80 has its advantages, mainly high detail video (VERY), zebras and IBIS with manual video lenses, etc.

The M5 is the first Canon MILC that I can make an argument for against another MILC!

A home run only lacking a UHD mode of a very highly detailed HD mods.

I have 2 small dogs who jump all over me everyday when I come home from work, they regularly smear my specs with their tongues/noses and I always clean my specs by sticking them under the tap, then using some liquid soap to make a lather in my hand then wipe the lenses. Dry off the excess water with tissue then finally wipe with a microfiber towel.
Obviously I'm not suggesting you stick your lens under a tap, but the liquid soap works wonders every time!!

Again, IQ wise I'm happy and not comparing it at all the two others. But basic AF should be better. But if you have ever shot kids, that is the main issue and it sets a much higher demand than anything else. Shooting sports is usually bright colors and contrasts on an even background. But small faces with very little shape and contrast in grey outdoor light is worst case.

Everything but the kids I try to focus on under the same light sticks.

I'll just have to find a way to make it work best.

Which brings up a small pet peeve of mine, I wish canon would just add acra swiss compatibility to their own feet. Then they'd fit in cases better etc. And the cases should have rollers on them and luggage handles, at least the larger ones.

I add Arca swiss plates to my white lenses too. And I use hoods too. The advantages over weigh the slight weight increase disadvantage...

Time will tell. There has to be some upgrade coming out whether it's A73 or A9 E mount. Sigma just announced support for the E mount that has to focus better than an adapter with Canon glass. 72 MP is crazy-town for most uses and the 5K price too but options and competition is good for the consumer.

So I recently came across a Kickstarter for couplers/connectors to make things out of EMT conduit. (I'm not here to shill for them so I'm not going to link them; I bet you can find it if you search, or PM me.)

It got me thinking though: does anyone use pipe/conduit to make supports or backdrop holders, etc.? I'm wondering if folks here have tips or tricks for doing such things. What materials do you use? Did you design it to be broken down between sessions or is it always "up"?

It's not nearly as travel-friendly as a traditional three-legged light stand, but possibly more stable and versatile depending on design? Maybe cheaper too. Even a reasonably cheap Impact background support system is over $100.

Or maybe I'm nuts for even considering this stuff. I'm sure you'll let me know if so.

Hi unfocused.
I have one (Camera Armor) for my 40D, bought it when I got the camera new, wanted to love it, hated it! It made a really nice quality feeling camera feel like a piece of crap toy, it spent no more than a couple of hours on there before being removed to its box, I tried it again recently, nothing changed, feels like crap, wasted hard earned cash.
Don't know about a dust magnet but I can envisage dust and environmental debris getting in between the cover and camera and doing more damage than without it.

Can't get my OSX Sierra 10.12 MacBook Air to recognize the GP-E2. GPS has power, turns on I plug in via USB and yet says no GP device connected???

WTF is the deal with canon and thier software? Can't keep drivers and software current to save their lives.

Of note, Sony's not even in the top 20 by camera ranking (of shots posted online), which is a little hard to believe. Any chance Sony folks are getting their EXIF data scrubbed somehow, perhaps by a wifi/bluetooth protocol trying to save a byte or two as it posts to social media?

In the U.K., the largest organisation is the RSPB, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Look at their website. We have various Wild Life and Wetland Trusts in our different counties. I pay for membership of three of these. These organisations are just so good. Some just have a reserve plus hides. Others have cafes and nature-related shops as well. The Dutch are great birdwatchers as well, but I don't have details on their facilities.

And I would add, even most of the small local nature reserves have a hide or two, although they tend to resemble sheds.

All they lack are birds. I'm not joking. It's long patient waiting much of the time. Thousands of bird reserves but a shortage of birds. It's the thrill of the chase that keeps you going here.

Lol. Well I tend only to go to places when I've seen reports of something interesting. Fortunately, my local bird club posts incredibly thorough and detailed daily news

What I have learned from this thread for myself personally is to not to jump to conclusions and resist being judgmental. It's so easy to presume things that may not be true.

It's nice when CR threads can share exchanges without hostilities creeping in even though there are differences of opinion. Since I will soon have my 1DX II I'm watching all the related threads hoping to learn a lot in short order!

Maybe, I found the real problem for the shut off: When I disassemble the battery grip, the body works properly. I phoned the service company and did an last send in with the mounbted battery grip. I hope this was the problem

something else to consider.. if the lens is becoming a bit de-centered (micro movement of adjustment spacing/parts wearing out over time) this may also look like miss focus? Possibly? Maybe it can't focus properly or as well in that case? If it was in one particular corner? I'd also make sure it was at least a cross point you are using.. horizontal or vertical only points can be near useless in low light.
