Try reading the rest of the sentence. His problem was actually with Paypal and thus he had "no issues" with Ebay.

Paypal is part of eBay.

How to Get your 600ex-rt's firing wirelessly with Third Party Cameras.

dancook said:
I could not get the flashes to fire consistently from a Sony RX1R with the YN-E3-Rt

It's a Sony multi-interface hot shoe, but it will fire the 600ex-rt in the hot shoe.

The test button the YN-E3-RT fired them ok, and after doing that a few times sometimes it would work for a single flash triggered from the camera.

I will have to check the mode and try again, but I'm not optimistic.

You can try these things to help get consistent results.

1. fresh set of batterys.
2. make sure the yn3 is in M mode, not in GR.
3. Adjust the channels until it's reliable using the channel scanner on your 600rts.

I found ch.5 has worked best for where ever I've been shooting. I left my set there.

How Soon We Forget!

[* EOS 620 (1/4000s shutter, 1/250 x-sync) and Canon technical date back ... great camera. You could simply exchange the grip for a bigger one for bigger hands, nowadays you have to buy a semi-pro camera for that :-p ... http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/eos/eoscamera/620/

* EOS RT: nearly zero shutter lag and you can see the moment the picture is taken which all other dslrs don't manage because of the mirror blackout. Loved it ... http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/eos/eoscamera/EOS-RT/

WOW! EOS 620 was my first Canon camera and RT my second one (without selling the first one) :)

Polarizer

My tipp:
  • Buy a filter with an good coating. A nano coating e.g. is easier to clean, and more scratch-resistant. And has (advertised) an better optical quality
  • Slim version if used with wideangle
  • Look for an high transmission filter (like from Heliopan), as they are not so dark. Lesser light is "swallowed" by the filter at the same polarisation effect, so the lens is faster

e.g.: Heliopan High Transmission Polfilter circ. SH-PMC

Question for Owners of early run Tamron 150-600 lens

got to do some real shooting with it today and the af is definitely improved. tried it on some vultures in the bluffs. it was able to keep up with soaring birds and pick them out from the background. that's more than it could do before the update

A New EOS Pro Body With 46mp Next Month? [CR1]

Sorry to hurt the fanboys, but Canon is not releasing any DSLRs this year.

I'm inclined to agree that there is nothing new shipping this year, given that the 7DII isn't even coming until late November.

As a result, I gave up the vigil last night waiting for a myth and pulled the trigger to order a D810 + 5 lenses. I'll be putting my 5D3/7D +8 L lenses and a pile of other accessories as well as the Sony a7R+ and other associated accessory items up for sale in the coming weeks.

I'm tired of waiting for a never ending cycle of rumor and speculation and choosing to speak with my dollars. I'd rather be out taking the shots I want with a tool that meets my requirements today instead of settling for compromises or workarounds (for my shooting style and subject) with current gear.

I've been ready to upgrade my 5D3 since the spring and took the a7R route as a bridge but that just does not cut it. I typically look to refresh my primary camera body about ever 24 months but Canon no longer has anything that meets my shooting needs.

I'm sure most here don't care but Canon's lack of competitive products cost them a 15 year customer and CPS member this week.

Why should anybody care? Canon don't believe their products are uncompetitive so they are not going to build a camera just for you.

Get the tools/system that best does the job you have to do, for many that is Nikon, for others Sony, Pentax, Canon, Fuji or any one of a number of other manufacturers, it really doesn't matter to anyone, and nor should it..........

Is This a Canon EF 11-24 f/4L?

So.... now that some time has passed what do you all think?

I'm thinking we got duped.

What I can't figure out is why. What motivation could that site have had? It's a store right? Why tarnish your perceived integrity?

So that brings me back to thinking maybe it's real, but that's quite some advance notice they got. It's been 3 weeks and there's no possible opportunity for an announcement for weeks.

It's a puzzle, or maybe the site got duped themselves.

6D Mark II

Honestly, I love the 6D, I shoot all of my wedding photography on that camera. I have no problem focusing (I only use center point) and recompose. If I had one complaint, at that price point, like Nikon, I'd like to have dual card slots, just for peace of mind/backup. Cards are not too expensive, and an extra 150 bucks would cover a wedding in card space. I don't find 1/4000 to be limiting; I suppose a higher flash sync speed would be nice, but I can work around that as well. I'm really just wanting Canon to keep up with Nikon so I don't have to start selling lenses I saved money for years to buy.

Reviewing the Samyang Filter System for the 14mm f/2.8

NancyP said:
Dustin, very effective use of the 14mm FL, nice compositions. Thanks for sharing. I find 14 mm challenging on FF cameras.

Filters are very expensive. I actually enjoying using the 14mm focal length as I find it very dramatic. It does require a completely different way of thinking in composition, though.

P.S. Everyone: I was out in the field with Camdiox filter. Unlike the homemade solid ND filter I made (using LEE film), the Camdiox combined with the Samyang/Cokin ND grad produced a magenta cast. Bummer. It seems to be fine on it's own, but I really got it mostly to use in combination with the ND grad. Something doesn't agree there.

An introduction and a dilemma

seqiro said:
I'm currently unemployed having gotten fed up with my former career and I also suffer from bipolar II disorder and chronic insomnia. Through the ups and downs, the one thing I still really enjoy photography. I like wildlife photography, although I'm limited by my equipment and I can't really afford to travel. I also enjoy taking candids of people at parties and such, though I don't think the life of a wedding or event photographer would be compatible with my struggles with anxiety and depression. I also enjoy taking pictures at local clubs where no flash photography is allowed, but my current equipment struggles in low light. My apartment has no windows exposed to light so it's hard to do much indoors.
I reread your post and realized some important details. Insomnia and depression are strongly influenced by the environment. The biological clock regulates the cycles of day and night. the fact that your home does not have windows to the outside environment, affect the perception of time to feel sleepy.

Recommend leaving home in the morning sun, and physical exercise daily. By nightfall, avoid bright lights and also TV screens or computer, which stimulate the body to stay awake. Search on Melatonin supplements, which can help regulate the cycle of sleeping and waking.

If photography gives you pleasure, practice and share this pleasant pastime with people nearby. If the noise in the images of his 7D bothers you, you should not be very pleased with any other APS-C camera to shoot in nightclubs without a flash. Seems to me that 6D is suitable for your use.

Honestly, I do not recommend investing in wildlife photography. This would only be rewarding if you could travel very often carrying heavy equipment and invest a lot of money. Your GAS (mine too) is a facet of anxiety and competitiveness in this type of photography can be harmful.

When you have a stable job, then think more seriously expensive equipment and travel required for wildlife. However, visits to the zoo unpretentious usually pleasant and without competitive pressure.

Video clip 5DmarkIII Raw Magic lantern by night

cavern said:
A video I made with a Canon 5D markIII, Raw mode with magic lantern, Lens Canon EF USM 50 mm f/1.4.

Very nice, you could also link it to the ML website as they're always looking for good samples.

I hope the upcomping Canon cameras will have higher-iso and moiré-free video like the 7d2 and a sufficient sd card speed to enable raw video (750d? 80d?). It's such a pity you have to spend €2600 to get a really raw-capable camera, it's not like you'd need an expensive lens for video as you demonstrated. Raw video would then become accessible for the masses and people starting off into making movies.

HTC Introduces a Camera

Mt Spokane Photography said:
I think that someone forgot to tell them that low end small sensor P&S are replaced by smartphones.

Heh. About two or three years ago some rumor sites suggested Apple was considering building a point-and-shoot camera. I just about wet my pants from laughing so hard. Anybody who would jump into the point-and-shoot market today must be either smoking something or certifiably insane.

Great interview about the Samsung NX1

I thought Canon was still running above 1 Micron?

The biggest piece of information I got from that was the 70% improvement in collecting light from an angle, this is a big deal since right now an f1 lens would have a lot of fall off. We just need BSI in a full frame sensor where it would be put to much better use.

In general it just looks like Samsung is pulling out all the stops on this one, I can't wait to see what they come up with for the next camera.

24-70 swap

You might want to look at Lens Rental's comparison, he checked 24 copies of the 24-70mm f/4 and compared them to the 24-70MK I, MK I, the 24-105mmL, and even the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8.

Form your own opinion. Roger will be the first to admit that his numbers do not tell the whole story, there are lots of other factors to consider.

Posting about sensors and DR!

There are those who admit the issue and discuss it, there are those who ask questions about it (to learn something), and there are those who don't care (and start threads like this one :) ). Not caring is not a solution and it's not even worth talking about (unlike sensors and DR).
I care deeply about the issue, but it would be nice to see a proper and polite discussion in the appropriate place and not see thread after thread descend into nastiness over the subject..... and that seems to be the overwhelming answer to the question....

Somehow those nasty threads escaped my attention :). I tend to simply ignore such "deja vu" threads. No new data there.

Dynamic Range - Try it for yourself, conclude for yourself: 5D III vs. A7r

jrista said:
More equal? ??? I don't know what that means.

You really don't? It's from George Orwell's Animal Farm, a fable about the communist revolution. After the animals get rid of their jailers and start into a bright new era with all animals being equal, it turns out that the top cadres are "more equal", murder their rivals and enslave the tamer animals again. Always a good quote :-)

1D X - Clean HDMI out

On a side note, I tested the HDMI output from the 5D mkIII, it offers ZERO improvement in image quality, in fact, it has a slight green tint in the shadows that looks worse than the internal H.264.

Yeah it did nothing for 5D3 video quality at all. All the damage is done at an earlier stage than the codec for the most part. Maybe for scenes where the entire frame changes from frame to frame and you want to avoid ALL-I skeeter noise, but otherwise is does nada for iamge quality, and as you say it even maybe does a trace worse. I swear it has a trace less dynamic range and sometimes a bit of a tint as you say.

ML RAW though, now that's the ticket for quality. 5D3 video IQ goes up a TON using that, night and day. It is a pig for space and it is a bit annoying to deal with, but it sure delivers :D.

I just want to mention that we have been using the Technicolor CP with the 5DIII and recording the HDMI out in the Ninja 2 with Apple Pro Res HQ. Then we color grade the video in the editor, we have been able to get excellent results with this work flow and color matching across cameras. ML is awesome I agree, but for the amount of video we create and that we often have 4 cameras at once involved, it is just too much overhead and time to do.

Have you compared the Prores files to the internal Mov files? I did and found absolutely no difference other than a slight magenta to green shift in colour.

Your workflow is good yes and the 5D is a great video camera, but if you record internally you'll get the exact same results.

Clean HDMI has benefits for some people I am not denying that, and I wish it was included in the 1Dx and rebels for that matter, the benefits are unlimited recording times, and if you have a slow editing system, having edit-friendly Prores files makes editing faster instead of having to transcode in post prior to editing, also it's nice to have a clean full screen monitor for clients while shooting.

Image quality increase is not one of the benefits.

Advice for re-investing please?

Thanks again for all your replies. I was about to click the buy-button on a Fuji setup but bailed in favour of a suite of Sigma Art lenses to use on the EOS M. The lenses seem to be some of the best available and I'm crossing my fingers that the M's sensor is going to be good enough to hold up. I know so many people bang on about big lenses on a little camera, but Im not too bothered by this at the moment. If it turns out that the M is a very weak link, I'll have a set of awesome lenses to stick on a Sony or anything Canon might come up with in future.

I'm looking forward to experimenting with this setup, thanks for all the advice, even if I did only take a little of it on board!
