I think it's nearly impossible for us to say because we have some great photographers sharing photos here using even the RF 100-400 and on up. Some people are going to have multiple wildlife lenses while others will only use one. We can be confident the manufacturers know much more than we do.

We can expect some people decided to choose Canon for the RF200-800 or the RF100-400. I'd wager how many is at least in the same range as the number of people who switched to a different manufacturer.

I can't imagine it matters very much because many of us are already impressed with what we have and as we often mention, once someone has a relatively significant number of high-priced lenses, switching camera mounts becomes less appealing.

Everything you wrote up to this one sentence is no longer relevant. All KB-Sensors could not reach the gain of a medium format sensor. The pixels have a greater diameter and the pixelspace is geater. All of them are related to the performance values like S/N-Ratio and Sensivity.
I would like to have a 60MP resolution on a ff format sensor in a body like the R5. Wenni compare the 5Ds with the R5 pictures like doing macro photos, the 5ds pictures looks more naturaly that the R5. I own both and some other canons. The R5 hase some advantages. The sensivity is higher, the noise is quite less and the EVF is an advantage for me if i am do macros. I can see the motiv outdoor even the sun is bright. The OVF digital systems are designed and optimized for the automatik focus use-case. Manual focus operation is not good supported. The all misses a traditional focus screen. for bodies like 5DM4, 5Ds and later, this is not available to buy and mount as an add-on.
And yes, all the lenses needs to be in good quality too, if the sensor resolutes more than 50MP., to so the advantage on the picture at the developing process.
Canon had decide to be an expensive system. I yould not buy Canon again, as long they not license their RF Mount to third-party lense buildes like Sigma.
Actually they had done this but only for the APS-C Systems. I assume, they don't want to build better lenses for APS-C and let Sigma and Tamron doing this.
The next System will be a Sony A7R5 or newer. Actual, my R5 and the R are the two bodies i use in most cases. I have all lenses that i require - EF-Mount mit Converter of course.

Finally a proper 1:1 macro for ‘medium’ format!

Pretty cheap, if you ask me.

Just shove the old firmware files into a (sub)folder, leaving only the new firmware in the root of the card. At least it works consistently with my R3.

And yes, I'm a FW hoarder as well.

For real? If so, I'm surprised, they have no reason unless the license fees are astronomical which limits the ability for 3rd party prices to be reasonable.

It’s definitely challenging. The charts I use (same ones used by Bryan/TDP) come in several sizes down to 10x18 cm but all with the same resolution when framed correctly. Those smaller charts are the only reason I can test my 600mm with TCs in my house, where my longest sight line is ~20 m.

There is very close collaboration between Leica and Panasonic for digital cameras: (1) they are both part of L-mount, (2) the Q3 and SL3's AF software is basically the same as Panasonic's -- down to how the AF target boxes look, and (3) the Summilux 28mm f/1.7 on the Q/2/3 is actually patented by Panasonic (https://patents.google.com/patent/US20160266350A1/en)

I won't be surprised if an upcoming Pansonic FF compact is based off the Q3 with a different sensor.

According to Asobinet, CR Guy has posted on Twitter or X that Canon’s big announcement may be a week earlier, i.e. mid may rather than between 21 and 23 may.

Sony compact cameras don't sell well in Japan.
In 2023, Canon was no.1, no.2 was Kodak and OM was no.3.

That’s why my 1D X was perfect for BIF. Approach silently from upwind. Focus and start shooting. The machine-gun shutter startles the perched bird, which then takes off into the wind right toward me. With the R3, I have to yell or stomp my foot and it’s much less effective.

Great advice. I couldn’t figure out where the R3 fit in the lineup. I have a lot of very nice EF glass and planned to get the new R5 when it comes out and use a converter. Kind of wondering if I should go with the R1 instead. Mostly shoot kids sports, parties, and family portraits. i do want at least one mirrorless body with the newer technology. well, actually i want more, but $$$$. Thank you for your responses.

Well, Tamron makes a pretty good lens. I still have an Tamron EF 45mm f/2.8. The problem is that in bright sunlight the CA is horrible at f/2.8. To me, that makes it less of a lens.

Canon has spoiled and ruined me.

Dawn is too early for me too (unless it is too late ) but dusk is a good time. There are so many opinions and as long as we are civilized at each other all is well. In fact Alan is not only civilized but very helpful too. He has made great suggestions to me (Also, Neuro always responds to technical/gear questions).

I feel more comfortable with my D850 + 500mm PF (my goto lens especially for flight photos and ones that demand quick response).

If I can carry more I get my R7 + 100-500 and R5 with 14-35. I also used to use R5 + 100-500 + 2X for the very distant targets. 100-500 is a phenomenally sharp lens.

I wonder about Z8/600PF combo but it is rather expensive and it would compete with D850/500PF. Choices...

It lists QAM1024, so it should support wifi6, which is a nice surprise.

Very interesting....not likely in a consumer camera anytime soon.
