I’ve not seen any mentions of people using the current TS-E lenses on the R and wondered how they performed when adapted.

I’ve used them with a Metabones adapter on a Sony and never thought they performed quite as well as when on a Canon body. This may have been down to the extra resolution of the Sony sensor showing up more issues with the adapter - I have no idea?

Anyone care to share their impressions?

Recently I've had a few jobs that require me to record video longer than 30min at a time. Normally it's sort of a documentation thing, recording someone speaking at an event. The cameras I currently have are a 5D MkIV, two EOS Rs, and a C100. Obviously the C100 will do this for me, but it lacks a few important features that really hinder it compared to the 5D or the EOS R. Namely, the C100 does not have auto ISO, the autofocus is pretty primitive, even though it has the dual pixel upgrade, it has no WiFi to control it remotely, it doesn't perform in low light as well as the EOS R or the 5D, and it has the super 35 crop factor, which is a pain to deal with sometimes.

I've thought about getting an external recorder like an atmos to be able to record from the 5D or the R with no time limit, but the problem with that is that it doesn't seem like the atmos has any recording mode that results in fairly manageable file sizes. (Am I wrong here? All the formats I saw when I looked into it seem like the files from the atmos would be way bigger than what you can record natively in camera.) I don't need the extremely high bitrate files that the atmos seems to record, and in fact they become a hindrance when I'm dealing with multiple hours of video.

I even considered buying a 1DC just so I could have a camera with DSLR-like features like auto ISO, but would still record longer than 30min, but it's a pretty old camera at this point, and still quite pricey if you can find one used.

Is there any solution that will let me record from the 5D or the EOS R for longer than 30min with manageable file sizes like I would get in-camera?

According to a recently unearthed patent, Canon is actively working on shrinking the size of a full-frame mirrorless camera. We know that Canon is going to be bringing lots of new bodies above the current EOS R offerings, but it looks like there may be something to the thoughts that Canon may be working to add a camera below the EOS RP.
From Japan Patent Application 2019-184921:
An object of the present invention is to provide a technique for suppressing an increase in the size of an image pickup apparatus due to the arrangement of a motor for driving a shutter.

Hi everyone, so I've been shooting since the days of the 10D and for the life of me, I can't figure out what's going on with the 70D I'm using. I'm between gear at the moment so I'm using my newspaper's body. Basically, it continuously focuses on the background instead of the foreground subject which I have the focus point on.

At least 70% of the time it does this. I've played with the custom function settings, wiped them all, etc. The lens has been serviced recently by Canon and it checked out fine so I'm ruling that out. The focus is also sluggish.

Is there something I'm missing? Some setting I've overlooked? If not, I might have the company send the body in for service. I've attached a few sample shots so you can see the issue clearly.

What a Lens to use, its magical Bokeh and Focusing is a dream, I purchased the Nikon Z7 Camera with it and the 24-70 2.8 s lens,my old fashioned Canon equipment gone forever, what made me change was a youtube set up by Tony and Chelsea Northrop.

Hi all,

i'm still loving my Canon...still with 5D3 likely till the "R" equivalent comes out.

In the meantime, I'm dabbling. I"ve had a blast with my new ONDU wooden 120 film pinhole camera.
My first shots actually came out in spite of myself!!

Medium format and the high resolution has me fascinated now.

I've been watching YT and thinking that getting one of the older Hasselblad 500CM cameras to continue my journey into 120 film might be fun...and the pricing doesn't look bad.

Looks like you can get a pretty nice camera, back and 80mm lens for right about $1K or so.

I'm trying to research and study up, but wondering if anyone else here uses this or has experience with them?

If so, any advice what to look for when buying them?

I've head that since these things were largely all hand fitted that on the camera backs, you need to make sure the serial number on the back itself, matches the SN on the interior slide in workings for the film holder.....

Any other tidbits like this?

How do you like shooting them?

I"m leaning towards getting the full mechanical version....but any particular models you can write about, Pros/Cons of each?

What are your favorite lenses for these?

One thing that REALLY intrigued me is, that it appears soon, that Hasselblad is coming out with a new digital back:
CFV 50C II

That will work on these old bodies. I know this will be $$$....but it does look like a neat way to sneak in over time with hasselblad going forward since you'd be able t use this back with old cameras and lenses.

They will also offer a thin "camera" module to go on this back and allow you to use modern H lenses that have auto focus, etc.

But I"m getting ahead of myself, just seemed like it might be fun to get one of these and shoot a bit of 120.

Where would you recommend buying these?

I've heard the KEH is a good place...maybe a bit more than eBay, but with them I understand you get a warranty and 2 weeks to try and send back if you're not happy.....

Thoughts? Links? Stories?

Hello all,

I'm in the market for an EOS R, and while obviously none of the BF deals ave been released, I was wondering if anyone would care to take a guess as to typical discount/deals would be. I'm sure bundles will be the name of the game. I'm really only interested in the body and EOS-RF adapter, and probably anything beyond that would be trashed or resold.

I'm just curious so that if I see a sale between now and then, I'll know whether to pull the trigger or not.

Went to the corn maze with the kids a few days ago, and brought the R and a flash. However, when trying to use the flash for fill in HSS mode, the resulting photos were overexposed. I then looked at the manual, and the manual states "High speed sync is not available in [Av] or [P] mode when set to [1/200 sec. (fixed)]". Well, I had been in Av and my flash was set to 1/200 sec. fixed. So the performance is consistent with what the manual states, but the question is why? If HSS is for cases where the shutter speed is faster than the sync speed, why should "slow synchro" be set to a slower option to enable HSS?

It looks like Samyang is getting ready to announce an AF 14mm f/2.8 lens for Canon’s RF mount.
The sooner third party manufacturers get lenses out for the RF mount, the better things will be for EOS R shooters and for the manufacturers themselves.

Canon News has uncovered patents for two ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses for Canon’s RF mount. We do believe we’ll see an ultra-wide-angle lens announced some time in early 2020.
The first being a very wide RF 10-24mm f/4 which would be the RF version of the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM. Canon also has an optical formula for an RF 14-28mm f/2, which would pair nicely with the RF 28-70mm f/2L USM.

I think it’s safe to say we can put to rest the idea that IBIS will be coming in a Canon DSLR. It does not look like the EOS-1D X Mark III will be equipped with it and that IBIS will be reserved for the EOS R system, at least for now. Nikon will apparently be putting IBIS in the upcoming D6 and anonymous sources may have just figured Canon was going to do it too, especially after an IBIS patent showing a DSLR drawing appeared back in July.
Canon executives are now telling folks in the media that they are “considering” a high-end EOS R body with dual card slots and IBIS.
A representative with Canon told Digital Camera World with careful wording that a Canon is “considering” making an high-end EOS R camera.

I have seen the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III in all of its glory. A source sent me images of the new flagship Canon DSLR with the caveat that they’d be for my eyes only. I respect all sources wishes, so I will not be posting the images.
I can tell you what I have seen though.
Ergonomically the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III will be almost identical to the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II. The first visual difference is how all of the ports are laid out on the side of the camera, and there are also additional port covers. The N3 remote jack has been moved to the side below the headphone jack. The memory card door is also a different shape, unfortunately, I could not see what slots were behind it.

Other than that, everything looks about the same as the EOS-1D X Mark II, which makes sense. Why mess with a camera design that is pretty much perfect ergonomically?
We did not get any specifications at this time, but we have reached out for more information.

Update 2: Canon has officially announced the development of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. Some original rumors about the camera look to be incorrect. There will not be a new battery and the top-down LCD looks to be the same. What is interesting is the new AF-ON/Smart Controller button, we have seen it in a photo we’re unable to publish and the button area is a lot bigger than on previous cameras. The AF-ON/Smart Controller button is there in horizontal and vertical orientation.
Update: Almost immediately after we posted this report, we were told by an anonymous source that Canon will address the EOS-1D X Mark III very soon. Is there a development announcement coming? We have not confirmed this with any known sources yet.

A confusing new rumor is hitting the gear sites about a “pro” EOS R camera.
This rumor suggests that a 60mp “Pro” EOS R camera with a similar feature set and an EOS-1 level camera will be announced ahead of the Photography Show 2020 in March of 2020.
There are a couple of issues and confusion about this report.

No EOS-1D X level EOS R camera is going to get a 60mp sensor. It’ll be much lower resolution, likely in the 24-28mp range.
Announcing after CP+ in February doesn’t make a lot of sense, the Photography Show isn’t a major event for Canon. Now it could be announced ahead of CP+ and obviously showcased in the UK the following month.
We’ve been told that the high megapixel EOS R camera is what is coming next (other than the EOS Ra astrophotography camera). Such a camera could definitely be considered “pro”, but it won’t be an EOS-1D X level professional camera.
