<a href="http://www.cipa.jp/stats/dc_e.html">CIPA sales numbers for November 2017</a> have been released, and show another decline in shipments when compared to 2015 and 2016.</p>
<p>The marketshare for mirrorless cameras remains at about 35% of total ILC segment. This number hasn’t moved all that much over the last year or so. While Sony continues to develop and release cutting edge mirrorless cameras, they don’t seem to be taking sales away from DSLRs.</p>

<p>The mirorrless marketshare likely won’t see much movement until Nikon and Canon enter the prosumer full frame mirrorless space.</p>
<p>Total ILC shipments as of November 2017 show a very slight bump up of a few hundred thousand shipments over 2016, we’ll have to wait for the December 2017 numbers to see if 2017 continues to show an increase in sales over 2016.</p>

The Nikkei Asian Review sat down with Canon Chairman & CEO Fujio Mitarai for a brief interview about Canon’s plans over the medium term. Canon Inc. is definitely looking to acquire more businesses and continue to diversify their portfolio of industries. Canon wants new businesses to generate nearly one-third of sales.</p>

<p><b>A:</b> Our primary management goal this year is to raise our antennas high toward cutting-edge technology. It is on this point where we lag behind other companies. <p>Here’s hoping cameras and lenses are part of this goal, there is a general perception that Canon hasn’t innovated the camera space all that much since the launch of DPAF. Whether or not this is factual doesn’t matter, brand perception is a big part of marketing.</p>

<p>I think a 400mm f/4 is a lens missing from everyone’s lineup. Apologies to the Canon 400mm f/4 DO IS II, but I think a non-DO version would likely cost less and could give equal or better performance at the expense of reduced size and weight. Maybe there’s an engineering reason that I am unaware of as to why a non-DO 400mm f/4 doesn’t exist for Canon’s EF mount.</p>

Roger over at Lensrentals.com has completed his OLAF testing of the brand new Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS. <blockquote><p>This is a lens where the designer has focused on being very good in as many situations as possible rather than obtaining the highest possible MTF. It’s apparently designed for the person who uses 85mm in a lot of different situations; especially in low light situations.</p>
<p>It’s very sharp, the field is designed to get good focus no matter where you focus, and all reports indicate that the focusing is quick and accurate. If you take a ton of shots, your keeper rate is going to be exceptionally high. <p>I also must say that I didn’t realize that current EF 85mm f/1.2L II uses an optical design from the early 1970s, that’s a pretty incredible run.</p>

The “II” version, released in 2006, was an electrical/mechanical change only, the optics remained the same. That’s an amazing run for a photography lens. It was designed in the early 1970’s and is still used frequently today.</p></blockquote>

It looks like Samyang will soon announce an AF 14mm f/2.8 for EF mount. To the best of our knowledge this is the first autofocus lens by Samyang for Canon’s EF mount.</p>
<p>An announcement is unknown at the time of writing this, but it’s probably safe to assume it’ll be here soon.</p>

We’re told that the Canon EOS 7D Mark III, which will be Canon’s first APS-C 4K camera, will have a slight crop when shooting in 4K.</p>
<p>As for frame rates, do not expect anything more than 30fps in 4K, and 60fps in 1080P.</p>


<p>There has been no mention of whether or not this camera will get a CFast slot. The EOS-1D X Mark II does, while the EOS 5D Mark IV does not. We’d like to see the EOS 7D Mark III get a CFast slot along with an SD slot.</p>
<p>We don’t yet have a solid announcement timeframe for the 7D Mark III, we hope to solve that riddle soon.</p>

We’re told that a new line of EF ILC video oriented camera capable of 4K is coming from Canon in 2018. We’re told that it won’t fall under the Cinema EOS banner.</p>
<p>We’ve<a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/canon-xc15-style-camera-coming-with-ef-mount-cr2/"> seen patents related to such a camera in the recent past</a>, but this is the first time a known source has mentioned the camera.</p>


<p>This camera could appear ahead of NAB in April. The next Cinema EOS camera is scheduled to be announced after the NAB show, which isn’t an unusual thing for Canon to do.</p>
<p>The source was confident it would be a new series of camera, and if it goes well, there’s a possibility of a whole series of cameras under the new umbrella.</p>

It appears that Canon continues to research image stabilization in tilt-shift lenses. Are we possibly going to see more tilt-shift lenses in the future with IS? Or are we a ways away and likely won’t see such a thing until the next updates in a decade or so.</p>

<p>We haven’t anything about more tilt-shift lenses, I think it’s safe to say that the latest 3 will be it for a while.</p>
