Insta360 Ace Pro 2 specifications leak ahead of announcement

Insta360 makes a lot of popular action style cameras. It seems the action camera segment has a lot of great competition between Insta360, DJI and stalwart GoPro. Insta360 has a partnership with Leica and their lenses are branded as such. They’re obviously not made by Leica, but are Leica built to Leica’s suggested design. Insta360

600mm Goal to Goal

I am a sucker for goalie shots, but on pro fields you often cannot stand in good locations to shoot the goalie. Well, the goalie that is close to you anyway... So at this game I thought I'll just shoot the length of the field. I brought my trusty 600mm f4 IS, set it up on a sturdy tripod with a bible head, and shot from one goal to the other. For corner shots and other events likely to involve the goalie, I prefocused on him and fired away.

The results were good. Maybe not spectacular, bit it was my first time. It was also a 1-0 game with very few shots on goal... These are the best 2.

Adapting Fuji X Mount to RF mount

Never really gave much thought to adapted lenses, but when I sold off all my Fuji gear, I was left with an 18-55 that they wouldn’t take because it had a small scratch on the front element. It’s been sitting on my dresser for about a year now and it just occurred to me to try sticking it on my R5. Because, why not?

B&H seems to have the requisite adapter

I know it will be manual focus and am dimly aware that the focus assist won’t work. Somewhere in the menus is a crop mode setting…I think… would that “fix” the disparity in image size? What else do I need to know? (Other than it’s a stupid idea).

Canon Patent Application: Canon RF 28-70mm F2.8 IS STM

The patent application (2024-140521) for the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 IS STM has shown up in Japan. This is a little curious as we get to see the design criteria that Canon used, and how the theoretical lens should perform.

Patona LP-E6P batteries are fully compatible with the R5II

I took the gamble of buying Patona branded versions of the LP-E6P and LP-EL this weekend and they arrived today. The LP-EL works fine in my EL-5 (which luckily doesn't drain batteries overnight) and the LP-E6P works in the R5II.
The R5II detects it as an LP-E6P, I can register it in the camera and both pre-capture in stills at 30fps and 8k60 RAW video recording worked without issues. I'm now charging it through the USB-C port in the battery itself.

Since they arrived less than half an hour ago, I can't say anything about capacity or longevity, but at half the price of their OEM counterparts they have some goodwill :)

Canon R5 Mark II and R6 Mark II Rule the Rankings

Yodobashi Camera has posted its latest ranking report for September. Now, this is just one of the largest retailers in Japan, so it's a pretty significant look at what prosumer and professional camera users are purchasing there.

camera clicking and video jumping on R5M2

I posted this in another thread but the thread is for a different issue. When I am using my R5M2 in video mode with auto focus and image stabilization on, my camera clicks louder than normal when it is focusing between near and far objects and the video noticeably twists/distorts periodically. Has anyone seen this in their R5M2s? It only does this in video mode and works fine in image mode. If I turn image stabilization off the issue goes away. Below is a link to a short video I took with my phone looking through the viewfinder as it seems to be more pronounced that way than using the rear screen, however it still does it when not looking through the viewfinder.

Edit, the video won't play unless downloaded, only drawback from my file sharing system.

Canon Patent Application: Actively Cooled Small Cini Camera

In this patent application (2024-135864) Canon is exploring increasing the heat dissipation in a small R5C-looking camera body. In particular, Canon is worried about the heat buildup around the media card, and looking to improve heat dissipation around the card without increasing the size of the camera. With good reason, those CF Express cards can get quite toasty.

Canon Patent Application: Diffractive Optical Element

In this patent application (2024-135951) Canon is discussing how to improve the manufacturing of a diffractive optical element of a curious nature.
