Has anyone had any issues with ProGrade CFexpress Cards in their EOS R5 Mark II?

I have 2 Mk 3 1dxs and one 7Dmk 2. I only rarely use the 7d at all and I have it since I bought the 1Dx mk ll. I use it instead of a converter.(seperate debate) My plan was to upgrade the 7d to a R7 mk ll when it became available. I was not too gone on getting an R1 until I started seeing Jan Wggener and Adrian Fopp reviews. I do wildlife including birds.
So I dropped into my Canon pro dealership where I get most of my gear. So I asked about the trade in values …..
With out even glancing at the 1dx I had with me I was told no one wants them , they are to heavy and the R6 mk ll was a better camera ……( never met this guy before) etc and I would be lucky to get 1000 euros off a 7500 euro R1.
I am neither interested in taking that much of a hit nor bothered. I am happy with my !dxs and I am not selling images any more and I guess the Mk lll will still be worth 1000 euros in 2-3 years.
Meanwhile the 1dxs new price has not been reduced nor am I seeing many second hand.
So whats actually happening. ?

I had been thinking of doing a fairly detailed side by side comparison of birds at my perch with the 24 MP R1 vs the 45 MP R5. I can start doing a few comparisons even though they were not side by side, such as:
Taken in January. Junco...R5 1/1000, f/8, ISO 1000, 500 f/4 II w 1.4 tc so @ 700 mm.


Vs a shot taken early this week, another Junco, R1, 500 f4 II w 1.4 TC, 1/3200, f/5.6, ISO 6400. So, not the same settings at all, but...


I can see a bit more detail in the R5 image, particularly in the feathers under the beak, but that may just be the difference in DoF from f/5.6 to f/8 at 700 mm.

So, I was thinking of a big test. Then I realized I had images of the same breeds of birds on the same perch going back to Covid (I started photographing birds as a more significant part of what I shoot during lock-downs in 2020).

Looking back through my files, this was much more interesting. I have shot from the same spot to the same perch with the same lens (mostly the 500 f/4 II w/ w/o 1.4 TC) for almost 5 years now with the 5DIV, M6 II, 1Dx III, R5, and now the R1.

So, much more interesting to me, I thought I would share 3-4 of my favorite images from each camera. Starting off with the 20 MP 1Dx III which I had as a loaner before I bought the R5.





Next up, the 24 MP R1 (which admittedly, I have been testing at lower light/higher ISOs....so some IQ differences)

Hi people, I have a small problem with the eos r7, it turns out that when I want to photograph the moon at night for example... I look and frame for example through the viewfinder, if I want to zoom 5x or 10x (MANUAL EXPOSURE) (M) if I want to control the shutter speed while I am in 10x or 5x zoom and I turn the main dial to change the shutter speed faster for example to get moon with details, remove light, etc... It does not work. What that dial does while it is zoomed is change or move the frame/focus point, and of course the moon moves up or down or right left... it does not let me control the aperture or shutter speed and it is frustrating. Is there a way that if I move the main dial while I am in zoom it does not really move the frame and if I control the light that enters and get the moon that I want? Some setting that I miss? I hope I have explained myself. Thanks

Wow.

First off, Panamoz were great. Got an r1, a spare battery, a control ring EF adapter and a 24-105/4L for 6.6k EUR. Bargain. The camera alone is 7.5 retail. Ordered it on a Friday evening and it arrived the following Thursday. Had it about a week now.

This thing is just a beast. I have my first pro shoot with it this coming Tuesday, having finally set it up and played with it enough to trust myself with paid gigs.

It’s such a massive step up from the 5div in every single way it’s just a bit overwhelming. It feels great in the hand, there are buttons galore. I was surprised about it feeling a touch fragile in comparison with the 5div, but I think it’s an impression mainly from the screen. It flips out and feels a little breakable. The 5div was a tank. I’m sure this is too, it’s just my initial impressions. It’s surprisingly light too. I’m glad, but that might add to the impression I have. By no means is it a bad thing or a criticism- i just haven’t used it enough yet.

The focus system is mind blowing coming from my 5div’s. So many workable first rate options will take some relearning after years of managing with a stiff joystick and limited focus points. The multicontroller thing is epic. I have it set to focus start on a half press which switches to eye focus on the full press. (Eye focus as in eye tracking focus, not the eye control focus which I have been unable to get to work very well). If anyone’s interested I have servo/one shot on the * and limited focus areas selector on the last button.

I limited my fps to 40/20/3, and it’s defaulted at 3, as that’s great for the type of stuff I shoot mainly, with the top front button switching to 40fps if I need it. The bottom front button toggles focus tracking.

Whilst im talking buttons, the mf next to the shutter button switches between people, animals, vehicles and none (I’ll likely limit this eventually) and the mf on the back left is the mode button. The original mode button is the ‘revert all back to auto’ switch when in FV mode, the oh shizzle button. I don’t really know much about Fv, it wasn’t on the 5div. I always have shot in manual, but I like the idea of it; when I’m in a fast situation and something happens. I dunno. But it’s set up - I’ll see if I can fit it in to my habits or if it’s useful.

Talking of modes, I have restricted them to M and C1 set up with the restricted Fv mode in taking about. (250 min shutter speed and 12k max iso). I wish that I could use the mode button to cycle modes instead of it opening up the mode screen and using the dial. Having only two modes I think it would work nicely.

Anyway. My first impressions and initial set up.

I do not have to carry two camera and two heavy lenses. It is not practical every time to carry in a functions like hectic wedding.
Always looking for all in one. For years and years we using same range and type of lens.
Sony and Nikon has it 35-150mm f2.8 by Tamron
Why EF?, it can be used for DSLR and for RF camera also with adaptor mount for RF camera.
My lot of business friends switched over from Canon to Sony makes. They literally dumped Canon products in frustration and anger. Canon does freed herself from burdon of making lens nor they allow third party to make variety of full frame lenses. Always some kind of restriction feeling.

Canon has placed the LI5070SA sensor on its website for third-party sales. This is a super-35-sized sensor (slightly larger than APS-C) at 27.4 x 15.3mm dimensions. On its website, Canon also has a full-frame global shutter sensor, the LI5030SA, which is a 19MP full-frame Global shutter sensor.

Tried to update the firmware on my R5 Mark II to Version 1.0.2 (I did this for several times in the last decades)
Eos Utility did not allow to "downgrade" the Firmware (screenshot attached). Tried to redownload the FW from Canon DE three times.
Tried it via Memory card. Update was completed. BUT: Now the display shows an X in an red circle with "Err" below. It does not work anymore.
Can I try to do something or must I send it to Canon?
