RF 500 f4.0L & RF 300 2.8 WHEN!?

I m thinking about to buy a second hand 500mm... MK 1 or 2.
So I have checked the specs those two lenses via The-Digital-Pictures. And edited a wanted RF 500mm to it ;)...
Look how many years are between MK1 & 2.... ~12 years! SO I asum that we will see a new one sooonish?! We are now above to go 13+ years :'(!

Same with a lightweight RF 300mm 2.8 !

For a new 500mm f4.0 I hope it only weight ~ 2500g max and the 300mm f2.8 ~1500g (looking at the Sony one ;) )

R1 Overheating issues

Hi,

I've been shooting my R1 for a couple of weeks and have had an issue shooting stills in hot weather lying on concrete in an extreme environment (shooting fast action water polo in 35c plus). The camera is great and we are shooting 600Gb+ on a weekend. Has anyone else had this occur? The camera returns to normal when you sit in the shade for a while and doesn't show this problem when shooting in the shade or cooler conditions. Interestingly, I haven't had the issue with the R5 Mkii yet.

Cheers

Shane

Patent Application: Super Telephoto Primes

In this patent application (2024-163673), Canon is exploring some lesser-quality super telephoto primes. Could be good news for us peons that don't want to drop 5 digits on a super-telephoto prime. The designs seem interesting, yet simplistic, so I wouldn't necessarily expect these lenses to cost that much. Canon RF 400mm F4.0 In this first

Power Zoom screw openings on lens

Does anyone know the screw size used for attaching the Power Zoom PZ-E2? I guess I'm looking for the screw diameter and threads per inch.

I just got the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L Z and the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L Z and I don't like the screw openings for attaching the Power Zoom adapter. The silvery screw openings make the lens look it's missing trim or not finished. I know the openings are weather sealed, so I'm not concerned about that. I just don't like their appearance. The adjacent anchoring holes are black inside and don't stand out as much.

I was hoping to find the right-sized screws somewhere and put them into these openings to finish the look of the lens. Given the lenses' cost, I don't like having bare screw openings in such visible locations. It's totally vanity on my part.

Two R5 II bodies - time not synchronic

I bought two R5 II a month ago. Unfortunately, the time of the two bodies was not synchronic. After one day I had a difference of 1 second. Canon then replaced one body.

With the new body, the difference is still 1 second per week. I use up to four bodies (2x R5 I and 2x R5 II) at the same time for covering football. It's very important to me that the times are exactly right because I sort the pictures chronologically. The celebration of a goal can't come before the image from the remote camera with the shot...

With my two R5 I, the time is still exactly right after six weeks and more.

R5 I vs R5 II have a difference of 2 to 3 seconds per week. Canon is currently clarifying the problem. Has anyone had similar experiences?

(Firmware 2.1 for the R5 I and 1.01 for the R5 II)

Adjusting the time every week is not a fun option...

RF 28-70MM F/2L and RF 70-150mm F/2L

OK. Not trying to get my hopes too high, but who needs a trinity? I prefer the above mentioned Dynamic Duo. While my focus is shifting from 100% portraits to portraits and farm, garden, landscape... this duo can do most anything I need. The only thing missing would be a super tele for the birds.

Anyone else going minimalist with this pair if the RF 70-150mm f/2L materializes?

Rolling camera bags

I'm looking for a good rolling camera bag. I'm getting older. Gone are the days I could carry a FF with multiple L lenses on a several mile day hike. I'm not as mobile these days and cannot carry a heavy backpack anymore which has curbed my photography the last few years. My Tenba Solstice 12L with a single light body/lens is my limit for short distances these days. Sometimes I just shoot out the car window.

I've been moving to the the lighter R bodies (R6/R7/R8), non-L lenses, and a tripod to help. I'm looking for a single bag to hold a few bodies and several lenses (including an RF800, RF 100-400, etc.), even just getting from the house to the car. It should be easy to access sitting on the car set next to me. I've got a hardcase for serious travel but it's not as convenient to use.

Are there any brands/bags you recommend for rolling bags.

EOS R1 Pre-Capture Feature Unable to assign to 'Hot Button'

I have been through my EOS R1 menus top-to-bottom a couple of times and I cannot figure out a way to assign pre-capture to an assignable 'hot' button. You can assign it to a Custom Shooting Mode - C1 for example. But there is not a single button press to call that up either. Best you can do is call up 'shooting mode' and then scroll to C1. If anyone has come up with a work around please let me know. Hopefully we get this capability in firmware.

I did find that setting up the AF back button half press for 20 FPS full press for 40 FPS is a very good option in initial testing.

Does anyone have the same problem with EOS R3?

Hi,

I have anoying problem with my EOS R3 when numbering is 9999 R3 gets nuts.
Does anyone have same problem, or do I have HW problem?

After 9999 - new folder started from 001 - all good. Then after some shoots it started from 9xxx, after some shoots more new folder from 001..
R3 is fast, but not that fast, not, when I have max 10 frames in use.

Timeline from one shoot, not with all frames.
12:37 0003
12:46 0017
12:50 9976
New File Folder
13:20 0001
13:21 0046
13:27 9981
13:44 9999
New File Folder
13:45 0014
13:48 9982
13:52 9992

Sandisk & Sony cards - same problem.
I format cards in camera for every photoshoots.
Same problem with Canon numbering or fixed naming.
Latest Firmware installed (same issue was with previous one)
Full reset for R3 done - settings back manually
Full reset for R3 done - settings back from backup
Max 10pic only in use (never 30) ,electronic
I shoot pics and videos

I never had same issue with DXII or R5

Canon has not been able to reproduce the problem with their own R3,
so "there is no problem".

R1 preorder shipping delays?

I've left my R1 on pre-order while I decided if I wanted to keep it, and have decided to keep it. I ordered from bestbuy to get the 18 months 0% to soften the blow of a 7200 order (after taxes) (Damn taxes). Mine has still not shipped and is saying I'll possibly get it by the 28th. Anyone else seeing a shipping delay on their preorder who ordered during the announcement?

A Canon Global Shutter Sensor – Would the next 3 series camera be the place to introduce one?

Canon, when they have bothered to say much about the subject have always stated that they wanted image quality to improve from model to model on their cameras. Even though Canon’s definition of image quality at times was a bit suspect (for example JPEG-only output, etc), for the most part, they have held to that,

100-500 issues with R3

I am having what appears to be communication issues between the R3 and the 100-500.

I will get a red square and it will not focus, if I pull the battery, or sometimes I just move the focus point and it recovers.

I use this lens on 2 R5 bodies and my R6 mk 2 with out issues

I use the R3 with all my other glass without issues.

Canon is shipping me a loaner kit while they look in to this but they claim to have never seen or heard of this before.
Has anyone had a similar experience? What was the fix?

All firmware is up to date.

thanks!

R5 Mk 2 and Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art lens - strange noise

I’m experiencing some strange noises from my Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art lens when used on the Canon R5 Mk 2. I’m using the Canon EF to RF control ring adapter. This does not happen on my Canon R6 Mk 2.

Also, when changing modes on the R5 Mk 2 with the Sigma lens attached (via the adapter), the same noise occurs. I can only describe the noise as scratchy. Camera is running firmware 1.0.1

Anyone else have the same issue?

Unfortunately, I don’t have a Sigma dock to check firmware but may have to buy one.

I'm thinking of switching to the Fuji system.

I have been a Canon user for many years. I started with the Canon 350D. Then there were the 5D Mark II, 6D (one of my favorites). Then a change to the Canon EOS R, and now the R5.

I mainly photograph nature, landscapes, macro.

I don't know what the issue is, but I can't get my head around the colors and photo processing from the Canon R5 in Lightroom... I don't like the colors (I'm crazy about it...), blues, greens, reds, a lot of magenta, some weird shade. I have a calibrated monitor, I tried using colorchecker profiles (from their program and lumariver).

I've read some opinions from people on the net who notice something similar.

I don't rule out that it's my imagination, colors are a subjective matter, but I'm increasingly considering switching to the GFX Fuji system. I was thinking about the GFX 100s II.

I know it's a different system, slower, smaller selection of lenses (I would miss Canon lenses the most), but I haven't been able to process photos from the R5 for a long time - it's been a torment for me....

Rf 24-105mm f/2.8L for sports?

If you've been using Canon's newest version of the 24-105mm for sports, I'd appreciate hearing about your experience with AF.

For shots from next to the goal in soccer, I had very good results from the RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS, but not as many accurately focused shots with the RF 24-105mm f/4L IS. Seems to lag no matter which focus modes/options I've tried. Works great for pretty much everything else but medium to near distance action shots, especially groups of players rushing towards the goal.

I find the 24-105mm range very useful for expressions and the jostling of players as they approach the goal. (I keep a 100-500mm ready to go for action farther away. No complaints!)

Thanks!
