Official: Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/1.4 Distagon T*

HTML:
<em>The tenth lens in the ZEISS Milvus series for DSLR cameras already shows its many benefits at full aperture</em></p>
<p><strong>OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 2017-06-21</strong> – ZEISS has launched a new lens for full-frame DSLR cameras from Canon1 and Nikon2 on the market: the ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35. Now the tenth lens in the Milvus family, the ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 is particularly suitable for portrait photography thanks to its speed. “The high maximum aperture enables the subject to stand out clearly against the background, and the photographer can achieve creative combinations of focus and blur,” says Christophe Casenave, Product Manager at ZEISS. “The manual focus enables very exact focusing, and the creamy bokeh provides an excellent image look. And even at full aperture the image quality leaves nothing to be desired.” The ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 is also perfectly at home in landscape photography: “The 35-millimeter focal length is a genuine all-rounder.” Like all lenses in the ZEISS Milvus family, it is protected against dust and splashes and, according to Casenave, even bad weather is no problem. The metal barrel gives the lens its robust and durable character.</p>
<p><strong>Practically no chromatic aberrations thanks to a new optical design</strong>

With aspherical lens elements, special glass materials and advanced correction, ZEISS has given the lens a completely new optical design. “This means the photos are practically free from chromatic aberrations,” says Casenave. Thanks to their excellent edge-to-edge imagery the ZEISS Milvus lenses are designed for high-performance digital cameras. “The resolutions of camera sensors are constantly becoming higher, and this also increases the demands made on the lenses. For ZEISS Milvus lenses this is no problem. They are a solid investment in the future.”</p>
<p><strong>Also suitable for filming</strong>

The ten lenses in the ZEISS Milvus family, ranging between 15 and 135 millimeters, are also suitable for film productions: the manual focus with a large rotation angle can be operated with the aid of a ZEISS Lens Gear with a follow-focus system. The de-click function allows the aperture to be set continuously in the version for Nikon3 cameras. A further benefit for filming: ZEISS has matched the color characteristics of the ten lenses. Filmmakers can therefore switch between the focal lengths and still have a uniform color look. “This facilitates editing enormously,” says Casenave.</p>
<p><strong>Price and availability</strong>

The ZEISS Milvus 1.4/35 will be available from specialist dealers and in the ZEISS Online Shop from July 2017. The recommended retail price is 1,999 euros.</p>

Best Big White Lens to Choose

Hi All.
One of the last remaining lens I require / desire is a big white lens.
I'm a very all rounder as a photographer.
I do some birding, I love Sports Photography and often photograph Soccer and Rugby.
I am quite keen on nature photographs as well.

There are 3 choices I'm looking at
a) 200-400 with the 1.4 Extender
b) 500mm F4 II
c) 600mm F4 II

I've seen a few discussions from a few years ago on a similar topic.
I am interested in hearing if you made a choice like that what did you choose and any regrets.

It's a once in a life time purchase so I need to get it as right as possible.

The best laugh you'll have today

From PetaPixel's 'story' ::) about water jetting an EF-S 17-85 in half, the folks at the Waterjet Channel -- yeah -- had a good 'ol time explaining the lens's innards:

(I've teed it up to the key bits -- feel free to rewind and watch the actual cutting op)

PetaPixel's crack team completely missed getting trolled by these guys.

Going on a trip to Alaska in the next month. I already have a long lens (70-300) picked out, but I am stressing a bit over these two lenses. :o

I have read the 16-35 is the way to go, and pickup a prime 50mm to fill the buffer from 35 to 70.

However, some have said that 24 is plenty wide, and having the extra reach to 70 will fill the complete area.

Coming from a crop camera, with crop lenses, I am trying to visualize what I may need or may not need. I have used 10-18 on my 80D, and found I rarely used the 10 and more 14-16. However, that is a crop and this will be a FF so picturing it is a bit tough.

what body for African safari, 1DxII or 5D4?

hello,

I have been using a 7Dii and a 5D3 (with 1.4TCIII) with a 100-400 mark 2 for wildlife in Africa. The 7DII is being sold due to Canon's inability to solve soft, low contrast images. I am happy with the 5D3 , but wonder if the 5D4 with it's larger sensor would allow more cropping as often my subjects are 150 meters away. Or would the quality of the 1DX2 be a better choice, even with the same sensor size of the 5D3.

I do plan to buy a longer lens, likely a 500 f4 II in the near future.

Thanks for any recommendations, particular those based on hands on experience.

african safaris body lens recommendations

Hello all,

I have made several two month long trips to Southern Africa in the last year. I carried two bodies, a 5D3 and a 7D2 with two wide angle lens and a 100-400 mark II. I was able to capture some good images, but most of the time I shot in low light conditions at dusk and dawn. The 7DII really let me down on low contrast images and I have since sold it. The 5D3 was much better. So now I am considering buying a 5D4 or a 1DX2 with a 500mm prime lens.

If anyone has experienced the challenges of Africa and can lend some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

Robert

300 F2.8L IS II+1,4X or 400 DO 4 IS II

So yet another dilemma. My current 400 5.6 has been decent for me for a while. This is my go to lens when it comes to wildlife photography, which is my main interest. 400mm is the golden mean for that purpose imo. Gaining an extra stop of light and 4 stops of IS are more than attractive, as well.

So my question is: If 400 mm is the one you mostly use then would you go with the 300 2.8 II+1,4x or the 400 DO 4 II natively?

300 with both 1,4x and 2x converters is surely more versatile, but the 400mm focal length being crucial for me I might give the nod to the 400 DO II, which is still charming with 1,4x and OK with the 2x converters, respectively.
Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD G2 Announcement Coming Next Week

HTML:
We’re told that Tamron will announce their <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/tamron-will-announce-a-new-24-70mm-f2-8-di-vc-usd-g2-lens-this-year/">new 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD G2</a> some time next week. This will come ahead of Sigma starting preorders and shipments of their brand new 24-70mm f/2.8 DG HSM OS Art.</p>
<p>We do not have pricing or specifications, but we do suspect Tamron could undercut the Sigma by a $100 or more.</p>
