Creative filters for both still images and video will allow users to customize the look and feel of their content in new and imaginative ways.</p>
<p>When designing the new EOS Rebel T7i, Canon took into consideration feedback from entry-level photographers who expressed interest in learning to go beyond the program mode of a DSLR camera. Users will now be able to see on-screen how switching modes on the mode dial or tweaking settings can alter the image they are about to capture, guiding photographers on their way to capturing more compelling images, such as ones with a shallower depth-of-field or being able to give moving-subjects a frozen or flowing look.</p>
<p>The Canon EOS Rebel T7i is scheduled to be available in April 2017 for an estimated retail price $749.99<span class="green">**</span> for the body only, $899.99<span class="green">**</span> with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and $1,299.00<span class="green">**</span> with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens respectively. The EOS 77D also features a top LCD panel and quick control dial for photographers who desire quicker and easier access to changing and controlling settings on the camera.</p>
<p>The Canon EOS 77D is scheduled to be available in April 2017 for an estimated retail price $899.99<span class="green">**</span> for the body only, $1,049.00<span class="green">**</span> with the new EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens and $1,499.00<span class="green">**</span> with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens respectively. This new remote allows photographers to capture images from within a 16-foot radius of the camera. This camera accessory is useful for photographers who are looking to capture images remotely in situations where there could be issues with signal reception or line-of-sight to the camera. <p><strong>Canon EOS Rebel T7i Camera</strong></p>
<p>The EOS Rebel T7i is the first camera in the EOS Rebel series with a 45-point, all cross-type AF system<span class="green">*</span> within the Optical Viewfinder. It is also the first in the series with Dual Pixel CMOS AF with Phase-detection and the first with a DIGIC 7 Image Processor.
<p><strong>Canon EOS 77D Camera</strong></p>
<p>For advanced amateur photographers looking to expand their knowledge and experience with DSLR cameras, Canon’s new EOS 77D is the ideal next step camera for them. The EOS 77D represents a new category of advanced amateur EOS cameras, a step above the Rebel series. Users of the EOS 77D DSLR camera will benefit from features like the 7650-pixel RBG+IR Metering Sensor, similar to the one found in the EOS 80D camera and Anti-Flicker shooting mode to help combat the on-and-off repetitive flickering from artificial lights found in high-school gyms or auditoriums.
Maui-bound; best spots to check out?

Off to Maui for a bit soon. We don't have a lot of time, but there's a high likelihood we'll head into the national park one day and make the RTH drive on another.

Any must-see vistas that this landscaper might want to see? Do any of those great vistas require advance reservation to get into?

How well paved is RTH? Can we pull it off with a generic rental car, or should be consider a paid tour instead?

I'm no birder, but I'm seeing a few bird sanctuaries around the island. Are any worth checking out, and if so, will my 70-200 f/2.8 + 2x t/C cover the reach I need? (If not, I'll pass.)

Gear-wise, I'm not sure I'm bringing the kitchen sink this time given other plans -- might just be the 5d3 + 2 lenses + gorillapod / ballhead + cable release. Bringing my lunchbox for the 4x6/holder/105 CPL and my proper Gitzo/Arca setup might not leave me enough room for clothes this trip.

Anyway, location scouting appreciated -- please let me know your thoughts!

Sigma 135mm f/1.8 Rumored Again, As Well as a Sigma 14mm f/1.8 [CR1]

HTML:
<p>The Sigma rumormill has been active recently. We were told that there might be a <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/sigma-to-announce-24-70mm-f2-8-art-ahead-of-cp-next-month-cr2/">Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 ART</a> series lens for CP+, but we haven’t seen anything confirmed as of yet. The show is set to commence on February 23, 2017 in Yokohama, Japan. The source did follow-up and tell us that there are working prototypes of a 24-70 Art, but that an announcement date isn’t definite.</p>
<p>The latest rumors is that Sigma will announce the following lenses some time in 2017.</p>
<ul>
<li>Sigma 135mm f/1.8 Art</li>
<li>Sigma 14mm f/1.8</li>
</ul>
<p>A Sigma 135mm f/1.8 OS Art <a href="http://photorumors.com/2013/04/21/sigma-rumored-to-announce-135mm-f1-8-dg-os-art-lens/">has been rumored since 2013</a>, and it is likely being developed.</p>
<p>As for the Sigma 14mm f/1.8, we suspect if such a lens is coming, that it’ll be for APS-C cameras. Sigma announced the <a href="http://photorumors.com/2013/04/21/sigma-rumored-to-announce-135mm-f1-8-dg-os-art-lens/">12-24mm f/4 DG Art series lens back in September</a> and that’s likely going to be your choice for a super wide angle lens for full frame cameras.</p>
<p>We weren’t able to confirm either lens at the time of writing this, but we do hope to hear more about Sigma’s immediate plans soon.</p>

World Press Photo of the Year 2017

The winner is announced:
https://www.worldpressphoto.org/collection/photo/2017

The photographer Burhan Ozbilici takes the win with a shocking photo showing the murder of the Russian ambassador in Turkey.
The photo and it's award are already critizised and wildly discussed, but... once again it was shot with Canon gear. (EOS 5D Mark III).

I think, press photos are always controversial and I also have ambivalent feelings on this but others in the category winners and runner ups gallery are quite worth watching.

Nikon’s <a href="http://nikonrumors.com/2017/02/13/nikon-reports-extraordinary-loss-fundamental-company-wide-restructuring.aspx/">financials have been released</a>, and they’re not good.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nikon.com/news/2017/20170213_1_e.pdf" target="_blank">Notice of Recognition of Extraordinary Loss</a></p>
<blockquote><p>As announced in “Notice of Restructuring” released on November 8, 2016, Nikon Group is currently under a fundamental company-wide restructuring to improve its corporate value as shifting from a strategy pursuing revenue growth to one pursuing profit enhancement.</p>
<p>In accordance with this restructuring, the Group recorded extraordinary loss of 29,790 million yen, mainly incurred from inventory write-downs/write-off in Semiconductor Lithography Business, as restructuring expenses for the nine months ended December 31, 2016.</p></blockquote>

<p><a href="http://www.nikon.com/news/2017/20170213_2_e.pdf" target="_blank">Result of Solicitation for Voluntary Retirement</a></p>
<blockquote><p>For approximately 1,000 workers a special retirement benefit will be paid in addition to the normal retirement benefit. Re-employment support services will also be provided on request.</p></blockquote>
<p><a href="http://www.nikon.com/about/ir/ir_library/result/pdf/2017/20170213_e.pdf" target="_blank">Revision of the Financial Forecast for the Fiscal Year Ending March 31, 2017</a></p>
<blockquote><p>Regarding the consolidated financial forecast for the year ending March 31, 2017, despite the continuous boom in sales of FPD Lithography Systems in the Precision Equipment Business, consolidated operating income as a whole is expected to fall below the previous forecast, impacted by the sluggish and shrinking markets of digital cameras in the Imaging Products Business and industrial metrology equipments in the Instruments Business.</p>
<p>As announced in “Notice of Restructuring” released on November 8, 2016, Nikon Group is currently under a fundamental company-wide restructuring in order to enhance our ability to generate profits and create value. And an extraordinary loss of approximately 53 billion yen in total, including the expenses related to “Result of Solicitation for Voluntary Retirement” and “Notice of Recognition of Extraordinary Loss” released today, is expected to incur as restructuring expenses, which is 5 billion yen increase from the previous estimate of 48 billion yen in “Notice of Restructuring” released on November 8, 2016.</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Here’s a <a href="http://nikonrumors.com/2017/02/13/nikon-reports-extraordinary-loss-fundamental-company-wide-restructuring.aspx/">good comment from Nikon Rumors</a> from one of their readers <em><a href="https://disqus.com/by/disqus_2GUvzmzZdq/" data-action="profile" data-username="disqus_2GUvzmzZdq" data-role="username">Semaphore</a></em> about what all of this means.</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>Before people get too worked up, “extraordinary loss” is an accounting term describing a loss that is rare, unusual, and not caused by operating activities.</p>
<p>For instance, Nikon previously reported a large extraordinary loss following the floods in Thailand. In this case, the losses were already expected from the restructuring announced last year, though the estimate has increased by 5 billion yen.</p>
<p>In other words, the losses are not caused by lack of revenue or developmental costs or such normal business operations, but rather a pre-planned shedding apparently mostly in the lithography division. So relax a little with the predictions of doom and gloom.</p></blockquote>

Nikon Cancels Their Unreleased Line of High End Compacts

HTML:
In a move that has <a href="http://nikonrumors.com/2017/01/16/nikon-dl-cameras-now-rumored-to-start-shipping-in-march.aspx/#comment-3102985266">been rumored for a while</a>, Nikon has canceled their line of premium DL compact cameras. These cameras were announced last year and were supposed to start shipping in June of 2016.</p>
<blockquote><p><strong>February 13, 2017 TOKYO</strong> – Nikon Corporation announced today that sales of the long-awaited DL series of premium compact camera, the DL18-50 f/1.8-2.8, DL24-85 f/1.8-2.8, and DL24-500 f/2.8-5.6, will be canceled.</p>
<p>A June, 2016 release was originally planned for the DL series. However, with the identification of issues with the integrated circuit for image processing, release of the three cameras was delayed indeterminately.</p>
<p>Since then, everyone involved has worked very hard to develop products with which our customers will be satisfied. However, it has been decided that sales of the DL series will be canceled due to concerns regarding their profitability considering the increase in development costs, and the drop in the number of expected sales due to the slow-down of the market.</p>
<p>We sincerely apologize to all those affected by this decision, especially those customers who waited so long for the cameras to be released, retailers and others whose business will be affected, for the inconvenience this decision may cause.</p></blockquote>

'Frost' - Short Video taken with Canon 6D & Tamron 45mm

Hey guys!
The other day some frost froze on the trees, right at the tip of the needles and branches, and it was really pretty, so I decided to film it and put together this short video:

The Tamron 45mm paired up with the 6D makes for a great combo - it's very versatile out in the field!
Thanks for watching - I hope you enjoy! 8)

EOS M5: A damned good camera! Comparison with the 7D MkII and the Lumix GX80

I reviewed my M5 with my other Canon APS-C camera as well with my "always with me travel gear" of the last years - the µ43 system - and my newest camera there: the Lumix GX80 - which ic called in other Countries GX85 or GX81...

The M5 is a really great camera. And as a mirrorless camera it has some outstanding features - one side is the focusing confidence o Dual Pixel AF. Another topic is the really great connectivity in combination with the Canon Camera Connect app. This is just awesome...

The full review you will find under: http://bit.ly/2iooJMo

Have fun with it...

  • Poll Poll
Canon FF mirrorless Poll

I would buy a Canon FF mirrorless camera... (choose the ONE answer that BEST applies)

  • ONLY if Canon no longer makes FF DSLRs.

    Votes: 21 20.4%
  • ONLY if Canon uses its existing EF FF mount and flange distance.

    Votes: 45 43.7%
  • ONLY if Canon uses its existing EF-M mount and flange distance.

    Votes: 6 5.8%
  • ONLY if Canon uses ANY of its existing mounts.

    Votes: 10 9.7%
  • ONLY if Canon uses a new mount with a new line of lenses.

    Votes: 2 1.9%
  • If Canon uses a NEW mount, but I would not replace any of my existing lenses with new mount lenses.

    Votes: 6 5.8%
  • If Canon uses a NEW mount, and I WOULD buy new mount lenses even if I already have similar lenses.

    Votes: 4 3.9%
  • No matter what!

    Votes: 9 8.7%

A poll for potential FF mirrorless buyers. After 25 pages of discussion regarding the potential new FF mirrorless and what mount it should have, I thought a poll might be interesting. Assume an EF adapter will be available if Canon chooses a brand new mount. Assume new FF mount will be slightly larger than the current M APS-C mount, but considerably smaller than EF mount.

Can we start a rumor.... 600 5.6 L it seems there is a strong market for it

Something in native glass that is an affordable 600mm

Have a tamzooka, borrowed a friends sigmonster. Someone could probably find the number of Tammys and the pair of Sigmas that have sold - I am sure it is a pretty big number.

The gap between a 2k sigma zoom at 600, and then the $4000 on sale nikon, next stop is $11.5k Canon??

Kind of a gap in the product line?

Looking like the '90D' will be a good one.

I know, I know too early but with what Canon's supposedly going to be trickling down to the 800D and 77D with DPAF for both plus 45-point AF for the latter, the future "90D" could be a really good one.

A new sensor of course. 28 MP or perhaps more? A jump ahead in sensor tech like from the 5D3 to the 5D4?

Guessing Canon will at least go 8 fps, to improve an extra fps on the 80D and create some separation from the 6 fps of the 77D and 800D. A small upgrade from the current 7 fps but that brings it to the burst rate of the sporty original 7D.

Next up if Canon's handing down the 80D's 45-point AF to the 77D is giving the "90D" the 7D2's 65-point AF! Guessing the "7D3" would get an AF system closer to the AF point count of Nikon's 153-point, 99-cross-type in its D500. The 65-point AF for the "90D" would also probably require giving it, finally, an AF thumbstick.

Also time to give the 80D successor dual SD slots.

OK, there'll that 4K stuff too.

Likely at least a year out from now but the "90D" is already looking good just basing on the features recently rumored that the lower-tier 800D and 77D are getting.

Who uses Safety Shift?

Canon's Safety Shift function seems to have been around since I bought a 1Ds back in 2002. I've always just skimmed past it in the menus, disinterested in what it was and what it actually did. This morning I dug a little deeper while setting up a recently purchased 1DX.

The 1DX has two modes, one where shutter speed or aperture are adjusted depending on the shooting mode, and a mode where iso gets adjusted. This seems preferable to me to retain chosen aperture and shutter speed.

Does anyone here actually use Safety Shift, and does it have a tangibly useful role?
