PhotonsToPhotos does the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and it’s good

Any advices for RF 24-240 mm?

I'm about to buy R5 m2. And I wonder should I go for RF 24-240 mm. I have both EF 24-70 f/2.8 m1 & EF 70-200 f/2.8 m2. In addition I have Sigma ART 50 f/1.4. These are my main tools of work.

However at night events and concerts I shoot without flash mainly. And from what I read DR vs ISO It's no different than my current camera 5D4.

The 24-70 has to go especially having in mind the new 45 MPs. Already on 30 MPs is not nice with its perceptual resolution of 12 MPs.

I also consider instead of 24-240 to go for the RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z. But my point is to cover it all with one lens instead.

I would like to know what forum members think.

R5 II Precapture

I wondered if there is any info available regarding pre capture on the R5 II. Will it be possible to switch off the pre capture feature by moving it's actuation to another button. The alternate would be having to take 15 shots before every the shot you intended to take. As an example, if I go out taking birds, will it mean that every time I take a shot of a bird perched taking off, I will have 16 shots, great, if thats what you wanted. If the feature can be moved to another button it can be used as and when required. Simply turning the feature off and then switching on when needed will negate the advantage and as such is not really an option.

Appreciate any input.

Multimode Optical Signal Dropping

Hello Everyone,

Recently we upgraded our camera to a Sony SRG-A40 4K PTZ Camera because it supports 3G signal using 3G SDI extender. This great and all, but, upon switching to full 1080p 60hz the signal kept dropping resulting in a pixelated flashing screen. We are currently utilizing multi mode fiber. The distance between the points is around 600 meters which is close to the optical extender's signal limitation. Are there any optical signal boosters so we do not require further investment in an 800 meter multimode extender kit?

Thank you,
Fredrick

Question about new battery LP-E6P

I own an EOS R + 2 LP-E6N and 2 LP-E6NH.
I want to buy the R5 II.

In addition to the original EOS R charger I have a Nitecore UCN3 USB charger that charges two batteries at the same time (either connected to a normal cell phone charger or attached to a power bank): these are the specifications > https://www.nitecorestore.com/Nitecore-UCN3-Charger-for-Canon-Batteries-p/chg-nite-ucn3.htm

In theory the Nitecore is compatible with the LP-E6N But in practice it also works with the LP-E6NH. Reading the specifications do you think it will also work with the new LP-E6P?
Thx

Canon: Possibility of a Retro Camera

DigitalCameraWorld talked to a senior Canon executive and asked them about the possibility of a digital retro or vintage-styled camera. The Senior executive stated there was a possibility of this happening and even mentioned that he personally would like the AE-1 to return in digital form.

Canon Interview: EOS R1 is the true flagship

Phototrends in France sat down with Canon to discuss the new EOS R1 and the EOS R5 Mark II. It was a pretty wide-ranging interview, so you should check it out here. But I wanted to comment on a few things because I always have an opinion on these sorts of things.

Buy for pride or pragmatism?

I really love my EF 35mm f/1.4L II. Yesterday I almost purchased a new one as backup, believing that it is inherently better and more special than the new RF/VCM version.

Then I started rewatching and rereading reviews made in 2015 when the EF II came out. The new and old share equal image quality, except regarding two aspects. The reviews were done by "my" trusted reviewers from back then (Dustin Abbott, Chris Frost, Gordon Lang, photozone.de.) The biggest shared complaint was the $2000 USD price tag in 2015!

Where the new RF/VCM version falls a bit short: 1) Severe distortion, and 2) CA when wide open and near MFD. The distortion of the RF/VCM model, as we know, has digital corrections baked in, so for practical purposes, it is not as big a deal as some new reviewers rant about.

I asked myself, do I really want to layout $1600 USD (as an "insurance policy") on a lens first released in 2015? (How long will Canon service this lens? With care and luck, won't my current EF II last many more years?)

The decision isn't a complete "no-brainer" for me, as the main reason I dumped the version I of the EF 35mm f/1.4 was purple fringing.

I believe I'm not the only photographer who associates lens choice with judgment and skill as a photographer. For me, camera lenses involve an emotional connection. We replace all kinds of appliances, vehicles, and tools in our age of extreme planned-obsolescence, but we aren't using many such purchase to express ourselves creatively.

The idea of dumbing down a 35mm L prime grates on me. I'd be sad to replace my current EF 35mm f/1.4L II treasure with the new version. And I doubt that Canon is going to have two-tiers in their L series for this lens.

But I'm not so freaked out that I'm going to spend money that may never get used. I don't believe I will be "crippled" as a photographer if I had "to settle" for the new VCM version. On the other hand, I fret over the trend of downgrading aspects of optical quality.

Also, I try to understand Canon's perspective, and I think I should be grateful that they are doing as well as they are in the age of smartphones and digital manipulation.

From what I've read lately in the CR forums, hard-nosed pragmatism drives the majority of purchase decisions, but some photographers are concerned about where the industry is headed with engineering.

Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters)

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters) is a sports car racing series sanctioned by ADAC.
The series is based in Germany, with rounds elsewhere in Europe. The series currently races a modified version of Group GT3 grand touring cars.
The 2024 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season contains the brands of Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche.
I managed to get there with my gear on Sunday, July 7th, at the Norisring street circuit in Nürnberg, Bavaria, Germany.
For those familiar with the track, I was sitting in the Schöller S grandstand.

Here I start with some impressions of the main DTM GT3 race.
Nicki Thiim in the yellow Lamborghini #94 was the pole setter and was able to clinch a start-finish victory.

Gear used:
R6m2, RF100-500L

Battle for the lead in the first round, and a cool drift of Lambo #92:

I Have an R5 MK II. AMA.

I have a production R5 MK II. I'll be conducting some testing of my own, and I'm happy to take requests and upload RAWs (I'm not too concerned about burning my source), but note that my bandwidth is limited, so answers may not be immediate. My lenses on hand are the EF 24-70 f/2.8 (v1), EF 70-200 f/2.8 (v1), and EF 50 f/1.8 (v2), obviously all adapted. My prior camera I can compare against is a 5D Mk III. Adobe Camera Raw will process the RAWs, though this obviously may be preliminary or generic. I may experiment with DPP.

Test images will be available here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Vkdc_YV1WtWw9FRYJ-Mv5uxKc4xlH1ll?usp=drive_link

As I start making real photos I'm happy with, you'll see them appear on Flickr here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nrbelex/

PS - Over the coming days, and if he's interested, I'll try to provide Bill Claff what he needs for dynamic range testing per https://www.photonstophotos.net/Collaborations/Dynamic_Range_Collaboration.htm Hopefully my adapted EF glass is sufficient for this purpose.

PPS - Note that I'm cross-posting on both DPReview and Canon Rumors.

PPPS - If you're an established forum member (avoiding Canon trying to catch the source) in NYC and want to purchase the camera now from a Canon authorized retailer, contact me directly and I'll share my source.

Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM Review

OpticalLimits (formerly photozone.de) has published its review of the Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L IS VCM. This is a lens that most have been waiting breathlessly for, and it does not disappoint. OpticalLimits (like myself) have a strong aversion to digital correction. So when a lens scores 8/10 WITH digital correction, you know they think it's

If you could only take one lens on a Botswana safari which lens would you choose?

Dear Canon Rumor Members:

I will be leaving on safari in the next few weeks and due to weight restrictions I am going to be limited to a single camera and one lens.

I am thinking that the Canon R3 and RF 100-300 mm f2.8 with both 1.4x and 2x TCs is my best bet. Alternatively, if I want a lighter combo I go for the RF 100-500 mm f4.5-f7.1. Any helpful advice and recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank you!
