A Canon Rumors reader “JerseyShooter” has been working with Sigma to improve the performance with Canon’s APS-H flagship cameras, the EOS-1D Mark III & EOS-1D Mark IV.</p>
<p>Back in October of 2013, JerseyShooter started a blog documenting the issues he was having with the lens on a blog. He worked directly with Sigma and it looks like it has paid off with the firmware that was released yesterday to improve the performance with both of the mentioned cameras.</p>

A patent showing a 5 layer image sensor from Canon has appeared. UV and IR layers help with color reproduction especially for skin tones.</p>

Hi all,
I'm expecting to emigrate in the near future with the intention of owning not-much more than would fit in a rucksack. This of course would necessitate the sale and replacement of much of my photography gear - I've got chunky stuff - 1DSIII and a range of 'L' lenses. I can see that going mirrorless may be the most suitable compromise but what of lenses?

Assuming it is a fact that my 'L' lenses are too big and heavy for my plans, what manufacturer/system should I be looking at that offers lenses with an optical quality as close as possible to my Canon L's? I appreciate that I'll be making a compromise, but what would be the smallest compromise I can make in order to save vastly on weight/size whilst losing as little as possible in image quality?

...I know this is a Canon forum, but I'm entirely open to a solution of another manufacturer!

i watched every game and paused the video whenever a sport photographer was in the frame.

for a year we heard canon will test the 7D MK2 (new cameras, lenses) at the brazil world cup. and now nothing.... the CR sources are all wrong.

or did i miss something.. have you spoted a new camera or lens?

Dear All,

Looking for some advice regarding the following problem: I have 3 Canon bodies (one EOS 1D series, and two 7D's) and a bunch of EF lenses, and am very frustrated with the AF being 'all over the place' on all 3 camera's... :

Lens -A would be doing kind of okay on the 1D but at the same time needing quite a lot of AF adjusting on one of the 7D's and just a little on the other one ???
My first question is: why on earth do these big differences excist? I will be the first to admit I am NOT an engineer, so the ones amongst you who are will probably scold me now , but is it really so hard for the smart people of Canon to make sure their brilliant cameras and lenses leave the factory in some kind of harmony

I could / should of course send in the whole bunch and have it calibrated, but I don't have the money for that at the moment :-[ so question number two: Would choosing one or two camera bodies for calibration - without the lenses - make any sense? It sure would save me some money, but I wonder if letting the kind Canon folks handle my cameras without matching the results to my lenses would do the trick? Please advice! Thanks!!

PS: of course I tried to micro adjust as much as possible, but it is not all that easy (well for me that is) :'(

PS2: if this has been posted before I do apologize...

It seems that my birthday is around the corner.. The only thing I want for my birthday is a new lens. I have been contemplating if a 70-200 f2.8 ii is going to be what I want. I have heard great reviews on it and I have been doing much side by side research on the two lenses. I was wondering if anyone has either the older version or the newest version and just give me personal opinions, facts or general knowledge before I make a decision. Ill be using the lens for portraits mainly. I shoot with a 5D 3 if that helps narrow down any information. Thank you everyone

I wonder if the 64 ISO is truly native and will result in a bit more DR as well.
The improved battery life and shooting speed, group AF, highlite metering, etc, could all prove very practical.

Hello everyone,

tl;dr:
Is it possible to turn off one (or more) flash groups with the Elinchrom Skyport system while all other groups still fire?

Long version:
I do have multiple Canon 600 EX-RTs and the ST-E3-RT. Sometimes they just do not give me enough power when I want to light up a whole room (i shoot events every now and then).
My plan is to buy some Elinchrom flashes, place multiple lights in the room and to assign different groups to the flashes.
When I walk around during the event I'd like to turn off / on the flashes just as needed.

Is the Skyport system capable of doing this?

I'd also like to know if I can connect a Skyport universal trigger to the ST-E3-RT? I imagine carrying around the ST and adjusting the Speedlites while adjusting the Elinchrom flashes with the Skyport.

Hi

I'm looking to invest in a wide-angle lens, both for landscape and wedding/event photography. The new 16-35 F/4 looks like a beautiful lens with great IQ potential, but I'm still trying to decide if it's the way to go. Here are my thoughts so far:

1. The IS is not needed for landscape, but can be really handy for weddings/events.

2. The IQ of the F/4 seems to be better than the F/2.8, but I'm just basing myself on what I've seen in comments and such (no hands-on experience).

3. The F/2.8 has a stop more light, though, which is important on events and such (many low-light situations).

I currently use a 5DIII, which has quite a good high ISO performance, and that is what is actually causing me to be undecided on which lens to take. A lens, when used "normally", will last decades. The 5DIII already has good high ISO perf, and that is likely to improve even more with the Mark IV and other cameras down the line. So the question is: can I compensate that stop of light with ISO and go for a higher IQ + IS long term investment with the F/4? Or will that one stop of light still be crucial for AF and such and will the F/2.8 remain the lens to beat now and in the future?

Current rumors says canon will not launch a stacked sensor (3 Layer Faveon like Sensor)
Canon says in a press release from autumn 2013:,,The newly develop'ed CMOS sensor features pixels measuring 19 microns square in size, which is more than 7.5-times the surface area of the pixels on the CMOS sensor incorporated in Canon's top-of-the-line EOS-1D X''
Only a FF X-trans sensor would be enough MB and a big area of the pixels

I’d like to think that canon launch a FF X- Trans Sensor with 18-24 MB in the next cameras for video and photography in extreme Lowlight situations down to 0,01 Lux and also great in Daylight and Dynamic Range. Distinct better than Sony a7s! (Distinct better than Canon current top models,too)

(0,01 lux is from Canon press 2013 to the new sensor)

Hi Folks.
I was in France for the D Day commemorations and went to several ceremonies and events, I couldn't help myself, I found myself explaining to people that if they turn to the P setting they wouldn't have to keep pushing the pop up flash back down when taking pictures of things well outside the range of the on board flash and that they could take control of the flash with the release button on the front of the body! Should I have done it, the people did seem to be grateful for the input, a couple even asked for more advice, I recommended coming here rather than trust me! ;D
Should we tell them or just leave them be if they don't ask?

Hello all,

I've been asked last minute to video an outdoor wedding for a friend of mine this coming Saturday. I've never really shot video before and before agreeing to do the wedding I did caution that I have no video experience (the reponse I was given was it's better than nothing). I would at least like to do a serviceable job and was wondering if anyone had any tips, tricks, or tutorials about video shooting in general. I have a 70D and a 6D with a 17-40L, 24-105L, 35 f/1.4L and 100mm 2.8L (I also have a GoPro3 that I may set up as well).

With the 70D, I would like to take advantage of the touchscreen autofocus capability. My biggest concern revolves around the clicking noise from the lens while using the autofocus function. The easy solution would be to buy (or rent) an STM lens (or an external mic), though I would like to avoid buying (or renting) as much as possible (I'm not getting paid to do this). Does anyone have a workaround? Because all my lenses are USM, is it better to NOT use the autofocus capability?

In terms of setup, I was thinking of setting up my 6D on my tripod with my 17-40 and letting that roll throughout the ceremony. I was also going to use my GoPro3 for the same purpose, just from a different angle (anyone have any suggestions?). With the 70D, I was going to use the 24-105 and a monopod to do the majority of the handheld shooting. Does this sound reasonable?

Again I have no clue what I'm doing for videos and any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I haven't really managed to find a reliable assessment of the 24-70 f4 IS macro performance.
I was looking into some of the cheaper options such as the 50mm 2.5 macro but it occurred to me that the 24-70 might be good enough for my macro hobby while also being very useful to me professionally as a replacement for my 24-105 (also, there is a 250$ cashback on the 24-70 in my country)
Anyone care to chime in with their experien, the ? Is the macro function on the 24-70 comparable to a dedicated macro lens? (I am aware of the very close focusing distance required to achieve x 0.7)
EDIT: After the mail-in rebate in DK, the 24-70 ends up at around 1100$

Hi guys,

I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.4. I use it primarily on a 7D (And often on a 60D, too).

The lens seems to focus perfectly, up to a certain distance (for argument's sake, we'll say 10 feet). Within that distance, the lens is generally spot on, sharp and get the focus right.

However, when I go above that distance, the lens seems to have real issues with missing focus. Sometimes it's right, vast majority of the time it's wrong.

So I sent the lens off for calibration with our Sigma dealer (who are fantastic to deal with so far) and I got it back today. Sigma dealer reckons there's a bit of front focus, which they believe they fixed. Said they took a few random shots and it should be grand now.

However, the lens still exhibits the same issues (now, i do genuinely believe that the Sigma guys think they got it right, as, if I were checking a lens' focus ability, I'd get really close to my subjects so the DOF would be shallower, so they probably didnt really try and distance shots at all, which is understandable).

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so, have you had it fixed? Did you have to re-send for calibration again (I'm guessing I'll be needing to re-send with the camera bodies, but seen as the lens is spot-on under a certain distance, and exhibits similar traits on both bodies, I'm under the impression it's the lens at fault).

Anyone any experience of this?

I did a sharpness test between these 3 lenses and shared some of my impressions of the 3 lenses after using them side by side. I will say that I don't think my copy of the 1.2 was that good but I made the images available to download if you would like. The Sigma 50mm is a sweet lens.

I've just received my 16-35 f4 today and took it out for a bit of testing. I'm impressed!

I have noticed most shots seem under exposed by a stop or two but I need to investigate further to see if it was my fault...

I did try some infra red with a Hoya R72 filter - very clean images with NO hot spot, wide open & f11...

Just thought I would share this info as a lot of you are keen IR shooters...
