Lens identity?

Hi Folks.
I hope someone can identify this lens for me please, it is a ropey picture from a for sale add. Long story short, I don't want to seem too interested in it, asking too many questions might increase the price as it is on a camera with problems for sale make a sensible offer. Knowing what it is will help me decide on an offer price, or if I even want it.

Thanks for taking time.

Cheers, Graham.

If Canon made a " truly ultimate" DSLR body for, say, $10k would you buy it?

And by that, I mean a DSLR that is as good as good can get for 2015....
And, by "truly ultimate" I mean by whatever floats your boat that is realistic.
No, "Yes, if they added....." The definition of "ultimate" is your definition, not mine...

Audio on a DSLR

I have a Canon T3i with a rode VideoMic Pro which I shoot all my videos with. Recently I got my hands on the Canon XA20 and was amazed at the audio quality I got with it with the Audio Technica AT897 microphones. i now returned it and am considering what to do to get better audio quality. The Audio Technica mic is XLR so i maybe if I get that mic I can get a JuiceLink? but could I instead just get a Zoom H5 and use the XLR jacks in the H5 and then into my canon T3i? Does anyone have any better ideas on microphones? I want to note that I am not doing a duel system, I want a single system for my workflow. On top of all this that I asked, does the Canon 70D have a better preamp then my T3i? On top of upgrading my audio, if its worth it I might buy a new body, but not sure yet since I am really waiting to see what canon does with the EOS line up and their professional camcorder line up next year (2015). Thank you in advance for anyone who answers.

Taking all bets now for PhotoPlus

My understanding (from what I've read on this site) is that traditionally Canon doesn't release/show/announce products at PhotoPlus, but instead uses it to make retailers and consumers more familiar with the products it released earlier in the year. If my understanding is flawed, feel free to say so.

There were rumors back in September about a high MP pro body showing up at PhotoPlus. This rumor seemed quashed by the subsequent rumor that Canon is going down the multi-layer sensor route in 2015. Perhaps they're not mutually exclusive (again - feel free to correct me on any of this).

At that point I again assumed nothing was coming at PhotoPlus. Then we got the rumor that the 100-400 lens is finally coming out in November, and it was followed by at least one member on this site who claims to have seen one being tested in the wild.

One would assume that if indeed the 100-400 is coming in November, it would be announced at PhotoPlus. There is such a large number of people (it seems) that are interested in this lens - that to just release it via a press release only (and not showcase it at an event) would seem silly. The same thoughts apply to that EF 11-24 f/4L lens we saw a supposed photo of last month, followed by a rumor that it is real and it is coming.

So, now I'm thinking that at least those will be announced at PhotoPlus IF those rumors are true.

What do you think will happen at PhotoPlus?

Slick City Kit?

Hello all-

With your help, I decided on buying the 17 TS-E, and it's on order. While I anxiously await it's arrival, I'm trying to piece together what I hope would be a slick and versatile kit for shooting in NYC and the like (I could see such a kit equally adaptable for European travel for instance). As I'll be commuting into the city by train and mostly walking once there, weight and portability are certainly parameters for consideration, keeping in mind that image quality is still foremost. For reference, I currently own a 5D3, the 17TSE, 24-70L II, 70-200L II, 50 1.8, 3 x 600EX-RT, ST-E3-RT, Gitzo GT3451, Markins Q10i.

With that in mind, I thought my 5D3, the 17 TS-E, my 24-70L II, and purchasing a 135L would be an ideal kit allowing for architecture, unobtrusive street photography, and virtually anything else I might encounter. I can see shallow DOF and low light lacking perhaps, but I'm not sure bringing the 50 is worth it. I considered the 85L but am concerned about it's AF speed for street, and 135 seems to get me close enough to the reach of the 70-200 without the weight or "look at me!" appearance. Thoughts on this kit? Any holes? Should I bring a 600EX-RT?

Now to utilize the 17TSE in particular, I need a tripod, and my GT3451/Q10i seems too big and heavy for maneuvering subways and sidewalks and unnecessary for the kit I'd be deploying. The Gitzo GT1542T paired perhaps with a Q3i Traveller seems a much more compact and viable solution. Given it's on rebate right now, I'm inclined that way unless an argument is made for something different. I love RRS but can't seem to justify the expense in this case.

Lastly, I need a discrete sling or shoulder bag (no backpacks) to carry all this, and here I am stumped. I have a Think Tank Retrospective 30 that mostly fits the bill (though perhaps it has TOO much space for this kit) but I was hoping to have the option of carrying the tripod folded on the outside, perhaps on the bottom? Is the Urban Disguise my only option? Any other bags on the market? It needs to hold the kit, plus some ND, CPL, a remote, batteries, etc.

As always, thanks so much for the suggestions and assistance!

2015 & 5DIV? Experts: what can be expected of a probable 5DIV in high iso IQ?

Note: I might have started a similar thread on this topic quite some moons ago. I am a no tech guy who is not familiar with the common technical terms and funcionality descriptions. Anyway, according to the last months and announcements, what is feasable in the high ISO IQ above 25k quality wise concerning the last evoluationary steps by Canon?
Sensorarchitecture surely will be a crucial if not essential component along with pixel count, etc. Hope it remains in the low 20s e.g. 24 MP max.
Thank you for any prognostical note from our technically more advanced fora participants!
Regards, Peter.

Review: Canon PowerShot SX60 HS

HTML:
<p><a href="http://www.cameralabs.com/" target="_blank">CameraLabs</a> has completed their review of the brand new superzoom from Canon, the PowerShot SX60 HS. The review is quite favourable, with only a few minor quibbles.</p>
<p><em>“The PowerShot SX60 HS is the latest in a long line of very popular and successful DSLR-styled super-zooms from Canon – and that success isn’t going to stop anytime soon. After a two year wait, Canon has surpassed expectations (unless you were taken in by the nonsense 100x rumours) with a 65x zoom range that beats all comers, for now at least.”</em></p>

7D Mark II ISO ramp-up on final version

Focus Numerique, a french gear reviewer, has put his hand on a final version of the 7D Mark II. They have made an ISO ramp-up and the raw files are available. The other test images (available on the other pages) were done with a prototype version.
Here is the link (sorry, it's in french...)

And don't look at the typo on the sensor's size and definition of the Alpha 77 II...

Operating profit down 20.7%, but at least they are still making profit.

Edit:
I'm not smart enough to drill through the data and look for anomalies in the R&D costs, and lithography related numbers to find out if they are about to make a major change in their manufacturing of sensors. Perhaps someone else have such abilities? I don't even know how far ahead such costs would show up in the reports, or how well hidden they would be among all the numbers...

Canon EOS 6D Listed as Discontinued at Amazon UK

Cameraegg is reporting that Amazon UK has listed the 6D as discontinued. I really hope it's true as I want to buy a 6D but would prefer an upgraded version (as per other discussions). Could Canon be fast tracking this project to respond to the flurry of new Nikon full frame models? One can only hope.

http://www.cameraegg.org/canon-eos-6d-listed-as-discontinued-at-amazon-uk/

Even if the only change they make is modern autofocus I would be satisfied but a few more upgrades would be better.

My wish list:
DPAF
At least 19 cross type AF points (50 would be better)
Flip out touchscreen
2 card slots

Essentially a 70D with full frame and some tweaks

Where are the Canon fun Pentaxian colors?

What is with all the boring black cameras from Canon? ;)

Why are they not innovative like Pentax? First Pentax blows them out of the water 12 (count them 12) color options for the K-S1 digital SLR. (And don't even get me started on the cool grip LED's).

As if that is not enough, now they have three new special combos to match your favorite drinks and dessert: blue cream soda, lime pie, strawberry cake.
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/3949709136/pentax-launches-k-s1-sweets-collection

Click on the link and see for yourself - I mean that camera matches that drink perfectly! I do not like coffee (and definitely not black coffee), so what am I going to drink with my boring 5D3?

And read the Pentax press statement: these special editions will "make digital SLR photography even more fun." Well how am I supposed to have fun now with my black Canon? They are sucking the joy of photography right out of me! :o

Review: PowerShot G7 X via DXOMark

HTML:
<p>DXOMark has completed their review of the Canon PowerShot G7 X. They have come away pretty impressed with the camera and it’s very good sensor score, which bested the Sony RX100 III in their tests.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Canon-PowerShot-G7-X-review-Has-it-got-that-X-tra-something"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17678" src="http://www.canonrumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/dxog7x.jpg" alt="dxog7x" width="436" height="461" /></a></p>
<p><em>“Although it was Nikon who was first to adopt and popularize the 1-inch sensor format, it was Sony who dominated this format with the RX100 series. Now with Panasonic and Canon adopting the sensor the field is opening up. The G7 X has high-speed lens with widest range that sets it apart from the RX100 series but if the 24-70mm lens on the RX100 III is enough the Sony is the better specified of the two but then that’s reflected in the steeper price.”</em></p>

Help to get a new cam + lenses (FX)

Hey all.
Hope you guys are doing well.

I have just registered to this forum, because I really need your guys help.

I have some spare money to buy my first FX camera. I used to use Nikon's for years (D90, D5000, F80, plus lots of lenses), but last year I sold my D90 because I wanted to jump to FX area. I have saved some money to get a FX camera + lens, but the thing is that I don't want Nikon anymore (it doesn't matter what people tell me, or whatever the reason is, I just don't want to use a Nikon ever again - the only cam that I have now is a Fuji x100 but I'm going to sell it), so the thing is: I really need your guys advice, since this is going to be my first Canon gear.

The question is that I'm torn between the 6D + a mighty prime lense (I was thinking about the 50 mm f/1.2 or the 6d + 24-105 and some cheap prime, but im not sure about the 24-105mm) vs 5Dmk3 + a cheap shitty lens (under U$ 250, maybe there's a 50mm out there f1.8 ).

The other thing is that I travel a lot, so I don't feel like carrying with me lots of lenses (it's awful, I used to carry lots of gears/lenses with my D90, and Its such a pain in the a**)

I rarely shoot sports, I'm into portraits/landscape/str.photography. I have done some portrait work in the past. What would be the best option for me? I have been reading some reviews, and it seems like the 24-105 is not that good for what I want to. Or maybe if you guys have any better option, i'm looking forward to hear it.

I don't want to get in my hands a Tamron lens either. I have own a couple of Tamron's and i didn't like it that much.

Many thanks!

Cheers from Chile

It's just me but...

As the Canon's "Year of the Lens" closes I find myself disappointed with the new offerings.

So far, no lenses have inspired me to upgrade ( last lens 24-70 2.8II, and it is excellent). Otherwise, the lens announcements don't resonate. I am still waiting for great improvement in the full frame camera lines to replace the aging 5DIII or 1DX.

I'm a loyal Canon fan, however tech along with the propaganda from the other companies does appear to leave the canon sensor in the dust. A lot of the criticism is warranted and it is starting to have an impact on how I view the company and its rivals.

Anyone else feel this way.

Hoping that 2015 will be Cannon's "Year of Revolutionary New Cameras, sensors, Focusing, and all things that make other camera companies wet their panties".

I'm wearing asbestos so I'm ready. I intentionally did not mention dr, or talk numbers here, so I'm interested in how people feel.

Zeiss Distagon 35mm f1.4 ZE

I gave up on the Sigma 35/1.4 Art and I gave up waiting for the Canon 35mm f1.4L II, so yesterday I got the Zeiss Distagon 35mm f1.4 ZE. Like the other Zeiss lenses, this has optical performance and a mechanical feel, second to none. Focusing is quite simple, using the 1DX with a Ec-S focusing screen (unsupported, but it works).

I realized that this lens did not have a thread already, so I thought it was time to start one. I have only had time to play with it indoors so far, so I do not have anything great to show. This is a minimum focus distance shot, hand held, of my pickup, going through the groves of Joe Bonamassa´s latest record, where I wanted to check out the bokeh. And, as with all the other Zeisses, I think it is fantastic.

So sorry Canon, you were too late with the 35/1.4L II update for me ...

1DX, 1/30s, f1.4, ISO320.

Recommendation for lightweight and slim wide-angle prime (20-24 mm) for FF

I'm looking for a very slim and lightweight wide angle prime lens (20-24mm) to accompany my 6D on mountain hikes. I will use my 50mm 1.4 prime in general, but need something wider for landscapes. It's not my favorite style of photography and I will use it quite seldom, that's why I don't want to carry around so much and don't spend so much money. It's just the lens I want to have in my bag for some "must-have" shots.

Well the 24mm pancake would be perfect, but it's not for fullframe. Has actually somebody tried if you would get the the entire image frame on a FF-Body? (with strong vignetting though).

I already own the 40 mm pancake, but it's not wide enough.

I considered the Voigtlander Color Skopar 20mm f/3.5: http://amzn.com/B0000D81PX, but it's actually too expensive and I don't know if I'd like the lack of auto-focus.

The Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM seems appropriate for my case, but it is already quite big. What about the image quality?

Any recommendations?

To sum up:
- focal length: 20-24
- size: less than 6cm height would be nice
- price: less than 450$

Thank you!

Vertical shooting focusing?

I've been experiencing something for quite a while now that I can't solve so am looking to see if other people have the same issue and/or know of a remedy?
Whenever I hold the camera vertically the number of shots that are in focus drops to about 1%, switch back to horizontal and it's close to 95%. Shooting with 5D3 & 1Dmk4 and good lenses (24-702.8mkII &70-2002.8mkII) Been going on for several years so have tried all focusing options and combinations.

Greenie photographer : Making the switch to DSLR

Hello!

Well, so far I've only used point-and-shoot cameras in my life. I'm at a point where I want to make the jump to DSLR and really get serious about photography (still a hobby though), so I'm currently trying to decide what I'd need to buy. I'm also reading tons of materials on photography, watching videos, anything I can absorb to learn more. I also love to read tons of reviews but right now I think I've read so much I'm just completely confused. Hopefully you guys can help me a bit :)

What I enjoy to photograph, in order (unfortunately, everything) :
- Wildlife
- Landscape
- Macro
- Portraits

The body is set in stone, I'm really going for the Canon EOS 7D Mark II (getting the body only though, no kit lens).

As for each category, some I know what to get and some I'm not sure anymore.

- Wildlife (and some sports) : Going for the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM (decided)
- Landscape : I don't know anymore.. any help appreciated
- Macro : Canon EF 100MM F2.8 L Macro IS USM (decided, might buy a bit later though)
- Portraits : I don't know anymore.. any help appreciated

I am hoping to combine the Landscape and Portraits into one lens, if possible (but a quality one). That would help keep the cost down and also to not switch lens too often. Would be great on trips to just carry one lens while walking. I do take a lot more landscape photos than portrait though. I would prefer (and feel safer) if that lens had image stabilization. I'd say my budget for that combined lens would be 1500$ or lower (lower would be nice of course!).

Some lens I've looked into so far :
- Canon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM (could come with the body as a very nice rebate)
- Canon EF-S 10-22MM 3.5-4.5 USM
- Canon EF 35MM F1.4L USM
- Canon EF 16-35MM F2.8 L II USM LENS
etc.

Please keep in mind that this is a crop body so I need something that will still be able to get some beautiful large landscapes, if possible!

Thank you for any help :)
