Hi, I recently bought Canon 135mm F2 and I purchased FoCal Pro to do AFMA. I wasn't sure the correct target distance, so I tried two different distances. When I placed the target at around 5 ft, it gave me +6, but when I placed the target at around 10 ft, it gave me +12. Which setting do I pick? Is this normal to have different AFMA value depending on target distance? What is the correct target distance for 135mm lens when using FoCal? Thank you for your comments.

Hi - Long time follower of the forums - first post.

I know there are so many discussions about the two canon 1.4 extenders - but most seem to relate to longer lenses - I can't seem to find an answer to this - I have a 5D3 and 70-200f4IS and really want to know if its worth using an extender on this combo or just cropping the pictures to get a better result.

and if so - would the version iii be much better with this combo and worth the extra $$?

i have the sigma dock and have had to use it on both the 120-300 and 18-35 which were grossly off. after doing focus adjustments on the lenses i have found that they work the same on the 2 70d's and the 40d which i have tried them on. that tells me the problem is with the lens itself and not the camera/lens pairing and also why afma with the camera doesn't work very well with the new sigma lenses, ae frontfocusing close and backfocusing at infinity and everything else in between. i am a big fan of what sigma is doing with the new products but i think this inexcusable and i will also write them and tell them so.

I am in the market to buy a Canon 70-200mm and I am torn between the Mark I and the Mark II. I have researched both of them and the Mark II seems to be the better choice, but for $1000 CDN is the difference in performance worth it? If any of you guys have either of the lenses could you help me out?

I own the 24-70 F/4L IS and it is brilliant. Sharp, (relatively) light, weathersealed and 0.7x macro. It's the perfect hiking lens for me.

I just purchased my second Canon Eos 20D. I'm amazed that such a great piece of kit sells for such a cheap price. I've roughly decided on the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS as my next lens and together with my telephoto lenses I think I'll be pleased with my kit. I think it's amazing how I can get two semi pro / enthusiast bodies for the price of one 1100D. I guess cameras are like that though. Whats one of your best used camera purchases?

I was planning to shoot with a 100mm f/2.8 IS on a 5D2 and 24-70 f/2.8 on a 7D or 1D3. It's not my usual cup of tea but I agreed to take publicity shots for a college dance company. I won't be shooting with flash during dances so any tips ahead of time would be welcome.

Hi Guys,

Often in the heat of 'battle'...I've left the camera on while changing lenses....and this weekend, I'm shooting voodoo fest (http://www.worshipthemusic.com/) And I'll be at times in the pit or maybe onstage wanting to change lenses quickly.

I've been reading on some sites that promote changing without turning camera on/off to save time (also, in having your lenses in the bag with caps on both ends OFF)....

Anyway, from what I've read here and there, it shouldn't hurt to change your lenses with the camera on. I've even done this a few times with the camera in video mode...

I've not found anything yet official from Canon about this....for my 5D3.

What are your thoughts about this?

Bad? Good? No problem at all?

Hi guys. I would like you guys to help me to choose between the 6D or the 70D to shoot videos. The 'type' of videos I are extremely similar to videos like this one: Apple iPhone 5s Review!

So, now that you guys know what 'type' of videos I shoot, do you guys recommend me to get the 70D or 6D? (Ignoring the budget here, only between this 2 cameras)

I have a hacked Canon 35-80mm f/4-5.6 mki and shoot it on a crop, but i still want more reach. At least 50mm more. Is there an older, sub $200 all manual lens out there that is pretty damn sharp and meets my needs? Even if it is strangely unique, as long as it works without much fuss. I can make things work.

Ok, I'm starting to feel real stupid over here.

I'm still having problems setting up my speedlite system. I've read the manuals multiple times and I'm still a bit clueless.
I use two 600ex and a St-e3-rt in two westcott softboxes, so it's a pretty small and simple set up, or should be.

I find myself constantly having problems with understanding exactly how the speedlite menu-system work over radio. Somehow I mange to set it up at every shoot, but mostly by pressing randomly on buttons and I end up going with "another plan" because of the flash guns refusing to work with me.

Could someone please write a guide on how to set up basically three 600ex (since st-e3-rt works just like a flash menu-wise) with one as master and two slaves. I sometimes use ETTL on both flashes and sometimes want full manual mode when I don't want lighting to change over time.

Hi Canonrumors,

I am looking at getting a Variable ND filter for my kit ( I know a set of ND's is better, but it seems like it would be out of my budget. I also like the ability to use variable ND for video purposes).

My question is two fold:
1. Because it is a wide angle lens, do I need to get a "slim" version and is it out of the question using a 77 with a step up ring to the 72mm filter size of the lens?
2. Which Variable ND's, if any have you had success with? My budget is about 150 for the filter.

Hello

first post here. I live and work in India and photography is strictly a hobby. Over the last 5 years, I've taken about 20,000 photos with my nikon D40 and while I'm in love with the camera, I feel I've outgrown the camera mostly.
I only have the kit lens 18-55, an additional 55-200 VR and the SB-400 flash.

I analysed the exif data on about 5000 of my images and realized that about half the shots are at the 18 mm APS-C end. About 92% are in 18-85 mm range. Thus, my needs are at the wide end (photograph the ancient monuments of India more than anything else, very limited people, some street scene, flash usage is about 10% of the time so can dispense with that possibly?)

I was contemplating upgrading to a nikon D7000 / D7100 (and a matching lens) when the thought of getting a canon 5D (classic) occurred. I reckoned I'd spend about $1200-1500 if I buy the nikon combination of D7100 with 18-140 or D7000 with 16-85 and for the same amount of money, I can look at a full frame if I get a canon classic! They're going on ebay for about $600 for a good piece and I could put the remaining $600 or so towards a good multipurpose lens (say a 24-105 L)?

Is this combination still worth a purchase? Should I look at another lens?

my primary considerations for making this move would be good image quality, reliability of equipment (lots of dust where i live and shoot) and usage for next 5+ years?

Any suggestions would be great!

Hi I'm stuck deciding if I should upgrade my 50mm 1.8 to a 1.2 or go with the 1.4, I've done some research and read that the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is a better lens than the Canon 1.4. If you have had any of these lens any advice would be great to help me make my decision.

Small travel tripod

For days on the beach i was thinking of taking the 450D and 40 STM... what do you guys think?

Ok, here is the situation. I already have a set of 2 Elinchrom D-Lite heads with the El-Skyport trigger system.

I'm looking at moving over to Bowens eventually but in the meantime I'm going to buy a single Gemini 5000R head to be my main light, and a Bowens Travelpak to do some outdoor portraits. I'm only going to use the Elinchrom lights with it in the studio though.

Here's the thing... The Elinchrom kit comes with its own radio trigger system, and the Bowens strobe comes with nothing but has an option for Bowens' own trigger system.

Now the stupid question: Will the Elinchrom trigger on the camera set off the Gemini too?

I know, it's a major long-shot. But stranger things have happened, and if you don't ask, you don't know.

Assuming it is a stupid question, what are my options for triggering all three in the studio?

If I had the Elinchrom transceiver on the camera, could I connect the Bowens light using a cable? Would one cancel out the other? Would the camera throw a Sh1t-fit?

I dont want to buy the Bowens trigger just yet as I'm sure it won't trigger the Elinchroms either.

Would a Pocket Wizard trigger the built in Elinchrom receivers? I know, anther long shot.

I know the real answer is a Pocket Wizard set up that covers all three strobes, but I checked before I flushed last time and, sadly, there was no money.

Your thoughts please, Ladies and Gentlemen.

What do you think of my collection so far or what do you recommend? I think my next buy should be the 16-35 2.8. Oh I shoot landscapes, portraits, events like volleyball and the occasional wedding
