Samyang has announced a bunch of mirrorless lenses, as well as a 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Lens for Canon.

Product Overview

The Canon EF mount Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS Lens is a prime, manual focus wide-angle lens designed specifically for use with APS-C-sized image sensors. Providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 16mm and a broad 105.9° angle of view, this lens is ideally suited for interior, architectural, and landscape photography applications. One extra-low dispersion element and two aspherical elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and distortion in order to produce sharper images. Additionally, a nano crystal anti-reflection coating system (NCS) has been applied to lens elements in order to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

The price of the lens is $529 USD and will be available on March 25, 2014.

Press release after the break…

From Samyang: The prototype version of the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 was first presented at Photokina 2012. Since then, intensive work to improve the lens and to achieve the highest possible optical quality while reducing its footprint. The result of this work is presented today lens Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS, which in terms of performance and capabilities can successfully compete with the best wide-angle designs available on the market.

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is a great tool to photograph interiors, architecture and landscapes. It offers an exceptionally wide field of view, ranging 109.5 degree and linear imaging performance. It features a wide f/2.8 aperture for shooting in low light conditions. It can therefore be successfully used in sports photography and reportage. The optical design of the lens consists of 14 elements divided into 10 groups, which include 2 AS aspherical lenses and one ED glass with a very low coefficient of dispersion. Also, the lens has gained a permanent hood to allow for its compact dimensions and to reduce weight by almost 160 grams from the prototype stage.

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is the first lens produced by Samyang Optics, which uses nano-crystalline anti-reflective coating. It is characterized by lower reflectance than the shell (U) MC, and the process of applying for a better fit to the structure of the lens surface. The benefits of using nanocrystalline coatings are: much better light transmission, greater resistance to glare and higher contrast, which positively affects the optical resolution of the lens.

Let's post something colorful

Let me start one ...

I'm truly fascinated by the MIRACOCO, a monumental, stunning inflatable sculpture built by Britain's Architects of Air. On the outside, it looks just like an alien UFO to me. But on the inside, the luminosity of light and color created purely by the natural light shining through the colored plastic are simply fascinating.

6d Banding/Posterization in Blue Sky

I just got a 6d with 24-105 from B&H in hopes of replacing my 5dii with 24-105. I really like a few things about the 6d, but there are a few issues I am dealing with.

1) See the attached images. They are screenshots of the same picture shot at 100 ISO and f22 to show the dust spots. There is noticeable banding in the blue sky when viewed in Lightroom 4. I have read in a review on either B&H or Amazon that someone else had this problem--has anyone else experienced this with the 6d? There are no issues with my 5dii.

2) There are also a number of dust spots on the sensor. These can be seen in one of the images. Is that common for a brand new camera?

Thanks in advance.

Samsung NX mini – I'm speechless

Maybe I'm just feeling like a Luddite today, but I am having a very bad reaction to Samsung's latest camera – or more accurately to the way it is being promoted.

I lost count of how many times they used the word "selphie" in the announcement release. You start the self-timer by giving the camera a wink. It doubles as a baby monitor?

The camera features a solid premium metal body with a luxurious leatherette finish, making the camera the natural choice for style-conscious shooters looking to make a statement.

Is this really where photography is headed?

Zacuto Launches Innovative Canon & Zeiss Cinema Lens Supports

Zacuto Press Release: Lens supports are an essential but often time consuming and fiddly tool in a filmmakers arsenal. The Zacuto product design team recognized this challenge and has created two new innovative, quick release lens supports that fit seamlessly into any cinematographers workflow. The Zacuto Zeiss Lens Support and Canon Lens Support are fast, easy, unobtrusive and best of all, require no additional work when changing lenses.

Most lens supports require a user to unscrew a stabilization rod or remove a support band in between every lens change. A customer commented to Zacuto product designer, Jens Bogehegn, that there had to be an easier way to achieve the same level of stability without all the fuss. This sparked an idea with the Zacuto design team, who then set out to create a completely new type of lens support concept.

The Zeiss and Canon Lens Supports incorporate a ‘hook and foot’ mechanism with a quick release lightweight rod mount. The hook attaches to your rods and the foot to your lens. The two click together and then separate with the standard movement of a lens change. This innovation is completely unique to the market.

“The beauty of this new lens support design is that it behaves as if there’s nothing on the lens. You can change lenses and there’s nothing getting in the way.” – Jens Bogehegn

The Zacuto Zeiss Lens Support for CP.2 lenses and Canon Lens Support for cinema and compact primes are available for purchase now. Visit the Zacuto website to purchase, watch videos and discover more about these unique products from the design team at Zacuto. Also available through any Zacuto dealer.

We’re told from a new source what Canon plans to do for NAB 2014 next month. We’re told that two new cameras are planned for the announcement, at least one being in the Cinema EOS line. It’ll have CFast 2.0 and be PL mount. There were no other specs mentioned. The second being unknown at this time.

Another announcement will be a major firmware update for the EOS-1D C camera. New features can be expected, as well as matching all the features currently in the EOS-1D X.

Lens advice for macro?

Hi Folks.
I tried some macro photography last night, I have a cheap set of extension tubes. I used the thin 1/2" tube with my 17-70 Sigma, I just about managed to focus before the lens touched the flower, by which time I'd blocked out so much light I could barely see it to focus! I'm not looking to buy a lens specifically for macro, but to get the best results fom what I have. Starting point complete novice except for a few test shots using lens reversing rings with little success, and a few shots of a flower last night with acceptable results IMO for a first try with extension tubes.

My question is, of the lenses I have which will be best for macro at a basic level?
Choose from:-
EF 50mm 1.8
EF-S 18-55mm
Sigma 17-70mm
EF-S 17-85mm
Cosina 100-300mm
Sigma 150-500mm and hopefully later this afternoon,
EF 70-200mm 2.8

Cheers Graham.

Two 6Ds: two different focus screens.

Hi all,
I like to do a lot of creative work with my f/1.2 lens, as well as work in low light with my f/2.8 zooms. I also do events.

I have two Canon 6D cameras. Right now, one has the stock screen installed - while I recently installed the EG-S in the other. I installed the EG-S because I felt the viewfinder was not giving accurate depth of field with f/1.2 as it was difficult to manually nail focus (or confirm the AF hit).

All of my lenses are f/1.2-f/2.8 in speed, but I feel the f/2.8 lenses are quite a bit darker (somewhat expected) with this new screen. Not dark to the level of not being to compose, but might make it tricky in a dim event where I am using flash.

BUT, the f/1.2 lens seems way easier to confirm auto focus and also manual focus with the EG-S.

My question is, does anyone else here have two 5D/6D cameras with a different focus screen installed in each? They seem to each have benefits.

So, I was thinking it made sense to have one 6D with the EG-S (for 1.2-2.0 lenses), and the other with the stock screen (for low light f/2.8 zooms). Anyone else setup like this?

*UPDATE 2*

Apparently Samyang is not yet ready to announce their first autofocus lens this go around. So we’ll see a 10mm, 50mm and something else?

*UPDATE*

We hear a 50mm f/1.4 from Samyang is already in production and it could be a cine version or both.

Samyang posted another teaser on their Facebook page. They have what looks to be three lenses being announced this Friday. One of the lenses is said to be a manual focus 10mm f/2.8. A second lens is rumored to be their first autofocus lens and it’ll be 35mm. As for the third one? That’s still a total mystery.

Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today that the Canon Professional Services (CPS) program has been expanded and now provides support for all Cinema EOS products. Created over 30 years ago to support professional film photographers, CPS has evolved through the years to keep pace with the changing needs of the modern imaging professional. A new CPS Cinema level has been added to the current Silver, Gold and Platinum levels continuing Canon’s commitment to support professional imaging customers as their needs grow and expand.

Cinema Prime lenses and the EOS C100 are now included as qualifying products for CPS Platinum and receive all benefits provided at that membership level.

In order to better serve corporations like newspapers, rental houses, schools and universities, Canon has also developed an Enterprise level of CPS support. Enterprise CPS is a customizable program developed to provide service and support benefits that meet the unique needs of medium-and-large sized companies who own large quantities of Canon imaging products. Customized benefits of Enterprise CPS can include any or all of the benefits of regular CPS membership in addition to on-site maintenance service, expanded product support and more.

New Sony A7/A7R Firmware - What does it do?

So Sony has just released new firmware for the Sony A7-A7r, NEX-5T/R and NEX-6.

According to Sony UK it improves image quality, reduces start-up time, provides support for SEL70200G and provides support for additional "PlayMemories Camera Apps" and features. In more detail it:

Provides support for SEL70200G:
- Improves Auto Focus speed
- Adds functions including the "Focus hold button"
-Reduces start-up time: The start-up time has been reduced in cases when the camera is switched on immediately after being switched off
-Improves image quality
-Provides support for additional ”Play Memories Camera Apps” and additional features for previously supported apps:
- Provides support for "Liveview Grading" and "Smooth Reflection" applications
- Provides support for the smooth automatic exposure feature in the "Time-lapse" application ver. 2.00 and later

So, as always, Sony is being very vague. For those that have this camera what improvements are you seeing after the update?

I'm less than enthused about installing it.
Wonder if it's got any other features?

.

sorry i have to ask....

so 2014... "the year of the lens".

and the no. 1 canon rumor website has no clue at all what´s coming?

NSA secrets are leaked but canon is tight as an oyster?

80% of the articles on this website are deals lately.
sure the website has to make money but the lack of true rumors is a bit disappointing.

Which one should i trust?

Hello

I would like to buy a powerbank that could provide around twice the capacity of the gadget i want to charge. My current iphone battery has 1440mah capacity and so, i need a power bank with about 3000mah max. However, theres many power bank out there which are real or fake really hard to determine. I found one with 4400 mah capacity, very compact, which I got at www.koeok.com for $20. Even better, I found an 10000mah power bank on eBay, also very compact, for just $8 with free shipping. Which one should i trust?
