500 F4 II Lens Hood

Hello

Very simple question. I'm wondering if any 500 F4 II owners can let me know or point me in the direction of the dimensions for the Lens Hood please? I'm trying to check if my backpack is big enough and the only dimensions I can find online are 146 x 383 which seems to refer to the lens itself. I'm looking to hire the lens for an upcoming trip.

Many thanks

Sigma 18-35

I was thinking of purchasing this lens as a walk around for my 550d. I currently own the Tamron 17-50

Its quite allot of money - and I was wondering if anyone here in the forum can give me feedback on my debate.

I borrowed the canon 17-55 for a while - and for some reason - simply did not like it. Its heavy, build quality is dicey, and the IQ was somewhat boring as compared to L lenses like the 24-70.

Thoughts ?

Epson R2000, R3000 or 3880 Printer

Hi

I was planning to replace my Epson R1900 printer with the 3880, largely based on lower priced ink per ml. That's was until I studied the cost of home printing reports from Red River Paper closely

http://www.redrivercatalog.com/cost-of-inkjet-printing.html

If their calculations and mine are correct the 3380 uses more ink per print than either my R1900 or it's replacement the R2000.

R1900 116.28 ml of ink for 200 10x8 inch prints at 1440 dpi
R2000 115.26 ml of ink for 200 10x8 inch prints at 1440 dpi
3880 148.92 ml of ink for 200 10x8 inch prints at 1440 dpi

Has anybody else who has moved up from either the R1900 or R2000 found the 3880 or indeed the R3000 that has the same ink set to be more ink thirsty ?.

Review: Sony A7R With Canon Glass

<p><a href="http://www.fredmiranda.com" target="_blank">Fred Miranda</a> has completed his review of the Sony A7R camera body using Canon EF lenses.</p>
<p>I am currently shooting with the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008112-REG/sony_ilce7r_b_a7r_mirrorless_digital_camera.html/BI/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Sony A7R</a> and I have been extremely impressed by this little gem. The 2 native Sony/Zeiss lenses I have for the camera, the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008123-REG/sony_sel35f28z_sonnar_t_fe_35mm.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">35 f/2.8</a> and the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008124-REG/sony_sel55f18z_sonnar_t_fe_55mm.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">55 f/1.8</a> have both been terrific.</p>
<p>Fred takes the review from the side of a Canon shooter and using Canon EF lenses along with the A7R for landscape work. If you want a high megapixel camera for your Canon lenses, this may be the camera for you.</p>
<p><strong>Says Fred

</strong><em>“After a few days below sea-level in Death Valley, it’s always nice to come back home to capture a sunset by the pier in San Clemente. Watching the sky turn my favorite shade through the golden light, I still can’t believe the images churning out of this <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1008112-REG/sony_ilce7r_b_a7r_mirrorless_digital_camera.html/BI/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Sony A7R</a>. Don’t let its size fool you, this baby packs a punch. For Canon photographers interested in landscape or studio photography, it’s a non-brainer. Combining this body with your arsenal of high quality Canon glass, makes for an unstoppable team.”</em></p>

Cheetah Light CL-180 vs Canon 600ex-rt

I am a wedding photographer and for the last two wedding seasons I have been happily using 3 600ex-rt flashes. One on camera and two off. I used to set my on camera flash to ETTL and both off camera flashes to manual mode. I controlled the output via group mode on my master flash. For a while now I have been setting all of my flashes to manual because I can get more consistent light and the batteries last longer. The only time I would use ETTL on my on camera flash is if I for some reason had nothing but air above and around me and needed to point my flash straight ahead.

Like I said I love the flashes but I have run into a few areas that I call "dead zones" where the radio signal gets screwed up but those times have been very rare. My biggest complaint is that even at low power settings like 1/32 or 1/64 I find that my slave flashes will go into thermal protection mode which cause all three flashes to stop working. It really doesn't take much for these guys to stop working. I don't ever remember my 580exII and pocket wizards ever doing that. The only way to correct the problem is to turn off the slave flash that is "overheated" and then turn it back on. Often this happens at a very inconvenient time where I can't go across the crowded room and make the adjustment. But I have learned to deal with this.

A few of my friends have dropped their flashes which has caused the radios in them to stop working so I have been looking into getting backups for my 3. Instead of just buying three new 600s I got to thinking that I really don't need a backup ETTL flash and that I would actually probably prefer just three manual flashes with a simple trigger. As nice as the 600ex flashes are, they are more than I need feature wise. However, they do lack in power sometimes.

After a little research I came across these cheetah lights:
https://www.cheetahstand.com/A-New-Bare-Bulb-Flash-Arrives-p/cl-180combo.htm

They seem like they would do everything I need them to do at a wedding reception and outperform the 600ex flashes in terms of power. The only downside would be the lack of ettl which I hardly use and the added extra trigger mounted to my camera since it won't be in in the flash.

Anyone have any experience with these flashes?

Upcoming trip, any can't miss spots?

Hello all. I'm wheels up in 44 days on another trip and I wanted to get the CR take on what to shoot. Any secret spots or can't miss places. General recommendations are welcomed as well.

I'm leaving NYC and have a 24-hr layover in Amsterdam, noon to noon. Then I'm flying into Athens, where I'll spend 3 nights. Then it's off to Istanbul for 4 nights, then a hop to Cappadocia for a night and a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the "chimneys". Then it's back home.

I'm planning on bringing my 5D3, 24-70 II, 70-200 II, nifty 50, my tripod, black glass, a few NDs, and one of my 600EX-RT's. I was considering bringing my 100L macro. Seems some of the Dutch "brownies", Greek food, and the Grand Bazaar beg for macro shots. Thoughts on that? I also intend to rent a TS-E. It's a hard call. The architecture and tight streets seem to scream 17, while Cappadocia might be better served by the 24. Any guidance there is appreciated.

So, any equipment guidance would be great, any input on where to go in the cities listed is even better! Thanks all!

Need a new camera bag, help? 2 bodies + bunch of stuff

Hi (this is my first post by the way) :)

The bag I currently have has gotten two small for me, I'm in the need of a new bag.
I have:
two bodies (one 5-series and a 7d)
4-6 lenses
external mic
radio triggers
2 flashes
15+ filters
tablet
a flycam and a table glider
and a compact (travel sized) tripod

and I'd like all of that to fit in one bag that I can take with me on a plane as hand luggage (a tall order, I know)
if necessary, I'm willing to ditch the flycam to the cargo hold. I'd like the bag to have straps for a tripod.
I simply don't want to travel separated from my gear. Any suggestions? I don't have any good camera stores carrying large bags at a reasonable distance so I'm relying on people who have the same requirements to tell me which bags worked for them so I can check them out.
All replies appreciated!

I took some measurements, without the tablet and the filters and cables and all that stuff, my gear needs a minimum of 36 x 45 x 15cm with dividers.

For a brand new flash that’s only about a year-old now it’s hard to beat a price around $400. If you haven’t made the jump to the “RT” system yet, take a look at <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/reviews/review-canon-speedlite-600ex-rt/" title="Canon 600EX-RT review" target="_blank">Justin’s review</a> and maybe he’ll convince you to make the switch.</p>

Is Sony junk....

"Moody's cut its credit rating on Sony to junk on Monday, saying the Japanese electronics giant had more work to do in repairing its battered balance sheet...." Source AFP....

How will this effect, the current crop of A7's and A7R's.....

Will we see further development?, will we see price drops?

Will be interesting to see what does or doesn't develop from this...

Canon to Offer Global Shutter for 2.5k Video on an Upcoming DSLR? [CR1]

HTML:
<div name="googleone_share_1" style="position:relative;z-index:5;float: right; /*margin: 70px 0 0 0;*/ top:70px; right:120px; width:0;"><g:plusone size="tall" count="1" href=""></g:plusone></div><div style="float: right; margin:0 0 70px 70px;"><a href="https://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-count="vertical" data-url="">Tweet</a></div>
<p>We heard rumour that some folk in the video world are selling off gear in anticipation of a global shutter capable of 2.5k video being made available on an, as of yet, unnamed DSLR. While the wording is hearsay, A global shutter DSLR would definitely be an advancement in film-making tech.</p>
<p>Canon’s been pushing the threshold of video DSLR’s since the launch of the 5DMKII, so there’s no surprise that they would be working to incorporate even more “pro” level video tech in their cameras. It has been their push but, as this is from an unconfirmed source, be sure to sprinkle salt liberally with what you read.</p>

Beginner's guide to "how to mount an umbrella"?

For indoor portraiture, I need some portable(!) soft lighting and after some research the Westcott collapsible seems to be good value (maybe in conmbination with a reflector on the other side): http://www.amazon.de/Westcott-43-inch-Optical-Collapsible-Removable/dp/B001OKBLEE

Question is: How do I mount this thing and my flash? I have to admit I'm rather confused by the variety of stand/boom/bracket/screw/whatever combinations, is there some tutorial available on what "best value" mount to get? Thanks & feel free to inquire further if my description is too lacking to get some advice.

C300 Necessities

Hey everyone, so I've spent the last few weeks doing some research and I've decided the C300 is the best camera for my needs. I'm putting together a little kit at the moment, but I'm curious to see as what some of y'all would suggest as necessities. Understandably accessories will vary depending on work, but I'll be doing everything from traveling through Africa for documentary work, weddings, short features, etc. I've basically just compiled a list of everything from BNH on their accessory section, but I just want to make sure I've got all my bases covered. Thanks in advance.

-Daniel

Oh neat, a Nikon 300f2 (1981)

On the other rumors site they noted that a Nikon 300f2 went up for sale.

I thought, "oh neat, a 300f2 sounds like a great idea". Turns out the thing weighs 7,500 grams. That's almost twice as much as the 600f4ISII, and as much as two whole 300f2.8ISII+1Dx kits.
Things really have come a long way.

I can't wait for Canon or Nikon to put out a few more crazy projects like these again.

Flying from Xian to Shenzhen, China

I was flying from Xian to Shenzhen when i saw this amazing view from the window, just had to share with everyone. Even though i was shooting through the Aircraft window i still think these look pretty good.
I was using a 5DmkIII and the 24-105mm :D...these are straight from the camera, no post processing
