G16 card error

A week ago i purchased G16 with Sandisk Extreme 32GB 45/Mb/s card.
Immediatelly from beginning i started to get "card error" messages when starting camera and still continues 2 times of 3. I have formatted card several times but no help.
I still have to try to mix SD cards with one from my 5D to see if it continues but meanwhile i wonder if anyone have got same issue?

Unsharp Pictures - Canon service

Hello!

After suffering from an stroke, my Grandfather gave me his photographical equipment. He has 3 bodies and a lot of lenses, that are registered at CPS-Service from Canon.
The equipment has not been used for about 2 years.
My problem is, that the photos are a unsharp. The Canon 7D has an Autofocus adjustment. When I turn it on the +20 maximum, the pictures get visibly sharper, but not sharp enough.
A friend of mine told me to send it to the CPS store at Canon (using my Grandfathers number).

Now my question:
Does the CPS store adjust the AF? Should I send the lenses there too?
Does anybody know, how much this costs? I live in the South of Bavaria, near Salzburg, so sending it to an Austrian Canonshop would be possible too.

Much thanks for your advice

Canon 70D has issues with kenko TC, as reported for 6D and 5DIII

While this is my first post to this forum, I have been reading and learning from it for a while... so I thought it was time to try giving something back ;) .

Yesterday for the first time, when I tried to use my Canon 70D with a kenko DGX (blue dot version) 2x extender and the Canon 400 5.6L, the camera basically froze, refused to turn off or write pictures to card. The only way to resume it was to remove the battery.

The same problem (or some variations of it) kept reappearing every time I try that combo. The teleconverter works fine with other lenses, and the lens works fine with other teleconverters. At first I could not figure out what was wrong... also because I successfully used that combo before!

Then I remembered I read something similar here regarding the 5D mark III:

http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php?topic=4977.0

I thus realized that the reason for the new behavior was that I recently tried to AF microadjustment that lens (luckily, no need for that, or maybe needed just -1 in some situations).

I then switched off the AF microadjustements, and everything worked flawlessly again. By the way, the new Dual pixel AF works quite nicely with that combo, allowing AF at 800mm/F11 (sometimes it can hunt a bit, but it is fast enough to take pics of a perched bird)! Too bad you can't microadjust...

Hope this helps!

<p><strong>Sigma 24-105 f/4 DG OS

</strong>We have received an image possibly showing a Sigma 24-105 f/4 DG OS lens. As with any image from an unknown source, there’s always a possibility it’s a fake, although those are becoming more and more rare.</p>
<p>We had previously <a href="http://www.canonrumors.com/2013/09/sigma-24-105-f4-os-on-the-way-cr1/" target="_blank">written that such a lens was on the horizon</a>.</p>
<p>Below is what we’re told is a soon-to-be-announced Sigma 24-105 f/4 DG OS. We’re told an announcement should come some time in the next 6 weeks.</p>
<p>This lens is apparently going to be bigger and heavier than the <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574981434&toolid=10001&campid=5337238466&customid=&icep_item=300987513612&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg" target="_blank">Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS</a>. It will have an 82mm filter, weigh 885 grams (the Canon is 670g). The lens will have 19 elements in 14 groups.</p>
<p>I will leave you guys to debate how legit the photograph is below. To my eyes, it looks pretty good. We’ll try to confirm this with a couple of our Sigma sources.</p>

Will be in Hanoi for 3 days @ end of Nov. Lens recommendations?

Hanoi will be a quick 3 day (sadly) run for me.
And, it seems like there wont be much of a chance to get out of the city.. I'll be locked in dark rooms most of the daytime (studios) - with only early AM or evening to get around.

In an effort to stay light and mobile, does anyone have suggestions for optimal lensese to bring.

I usually have 35 1.4, 17-40, 135 & 70-200/4 - but I am thinking of just going with the 35 and 135.

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance for sharing your insights.

Why is printing still so freakin' complicated?

I'm not asking for a print tutorial, because I can buy Jeff Schewe's 336 page THE DIGITAL PRINT.

Am I alone in wondering why we need 336 pages of instruction to produce a decent print?

I have a Canon camera and a Canon printer. Why don't they play well together, without constant adult supervision?

I'd bet that a significant majority of people who have higher end cameras and printers also have Photoshop or Lightroom, both made by Adobe.

So there aren't a lot of brands involved here. Canon, Nikon, Epson, Adobe, Apple, Microsoft. And they have had decades now to integrate and simplify. So why is it so complicated to get a print to look like it does on my calibrated monitor or even the back of my camera? Why can I get a $0.24 print from CVS that looks fairly accurate under sunlight, fluorescent, or tungsten, while mine and friends' home printers need test print after test print so people don't look like lobsters with white blotches of fungus?

No, not looking for another tutorial. Just wondering why in 2013 it still takes a 336 page instruction manual to tell us how to prepare for a trial and error process!

And don't get me started on LR5's still clunky Print module. (Sure, if you've been using it for years, it works, but try to imagine coming to it fresh or after using PS CSx for a long time.)

New Nikon 300/4 VR II on the way.......soon?

The current 300/4 non VR lens is by all accounts very sharp - even wide open.

This new prime will likely to be even sharper and lighter and could be a real stunner especially with D7100 type high res Nikon's bodies.

And with a new 1.4xTC also coming along you have the potential of a very nice 420/5.6 VR II as well. Canon - where are you?

How bad is the 24-105?

A few shots, all in good light, all well stopped (f/11), same SS. One is taken with the 24-105, the other with either the 35L, or the 100L. Same parameters in LR, including WB, except for some exposure compensation to equate the brightness. Can you tell which is which? Of course, not a sharpness test, the size is limited to width=1024. One of the "A" images was slightly cropped, and one of the "B" images was slightly cropped as well, for the same AOV. Shot off hand. Camera: 5D2.

Click for "full" size.

Is my copy soft or that's the average for the Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM?

I got the Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM as a last minute solution to an order screw up (had ordered the 100-400L), and I was stuck with this as my only telephoto lens for my safari in Kenya. I certainly didn't expect wonders, and sure enough I found it to be a quite soft lens if lighting conditions aren't perfect. Now I'm wondering if that's the average for this lens or it's just my copy, how can I determine that? I think I'll be keeping it until the new 100-400L comes out, so it'd be nice to have it working properly, within its limits. It also has a slight front focus problem, how does Canon handle this problems? Can I send it to fix under warranty?

Attached there's a photo example, thank you for the help!

UK lens price increases

Several lenses I have been saving up for have gone up in price at all UK retailers that I have checked, including Calumet, Wex, Jessops and John Lewis. Examples include £30 on a 100/2.8L, £100 on a 70-200/4L IS, and similar amounts on the 24/1.4L II amongst others. There may not be a change in

Has anyone noticed an increase elsewhere in the world? Or maybe this a reflection of changes in the exchange rate, which I haven't been watching.

70-200 f/2.8L IS II & TC 1.4III vs 300mm f/4 L IS

I am a wedding photographer and was looking for a solution for when I am stuck in the back of a long church or the balcony. Maybe a few bridal portraits ( I love lens compression for portraits ). I have a 1DX and the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II. I was contemplating getting the TC 1.4III but made the decision to get the 300mm f/4 L IS. I hope I made the right decision.

Canon 24 mm Tilt/Shift - and very still LIFE

Working on a competition-assignment with the theme 'LIFE' (a very wide subject, I think), I made the picture below. Representing various types of life - none of them in the fast lane.

Any comments much appreciated.

Doing so I enjoyed playing with the tilt-function of the Canon 24 mm TS/E.
It enabled me to have the plane of focus at the surface of the stump, that is far from parallel to my sensorplane.
This lens is so good !! Very solid (and advanced) mechanics, and very, very good optical quality. Use it as a general wide-angle and it is just perfect.
Also used both tilt and shift for a couple of excercises in architectural photography.
Working with a tripod, lots of time and some patience it gives new creative options - and very good images.
(I am lucky to be in a photo-club having this lens for lending).
