I have a 5d iii with 24-70 ii, 70-200 2.8 ii

I am going to disney and am considering a prime just not sure which one. I also miss having is in the shorter focal range.

Thinking of
35mm f2 is
35mm sigma 1.4 sounds heavy so may not be travel friendly
24-70 f4 is

Any other thoughts are welcomed

Hi every body, its the first time i wrote in the canon rumor forum, i have a professional photography studio in Canada. Iam very disappoint about 5D MKIII and 1DX the reason he have not WI-FI and USB 3.0
for me is a most value for a production in my studio. for now a have 7D with few L lenses and other, in 2012 iam decide to change my 7D but all new camera miss HDMI not compresse Wi-Fi GPS USB 3.0 in the same package
I bought sony AX99 for outside photography is a beast in studio, for different reason iam return the AX99 and i wait. I hope the new 7D MKII have a lot innovation, for me aps-c is not a matter i make product photography and fashion photography, my 7D make a realy good job. After 4 years iam ready to change my 7D but i need a good reason to change. Please Canon, in 2013 release new EOS with innovation, technology and iam stay Red

Hi. I just placed an order last night from adorama.
They had a special on the 6D + 24-105mm for USD 2080 with a free pixma. I thought it was a really good deal, but not that it was a mistake, canon usually does rebates on printers.

Today I get a cancellation email.

Should I try to get something out of this or let it pass?

A few weeks ago I purchased a Canon 60d and had asked for lens help on this forum. I decided to return the camera and buy the canon 6d, which I really like. I need some help deciding on a telephoto lens. It's not often that I shoot on the Long end, But there are times when I would like to have it, i.e. kids soccer game, zoo etc... Am I better off buying the 70-200 f4 usm or the 70-300 usm is. The question that keeps coming up in my head is will 200mm be long enough. I'm sort of on a budget for this lens choice, so that why I decided on these two. Your thoughts, suggestions?
My current lens line up is 17-40, 24-105 and 40 2.8

Also, is the canon 100 macro L that much better than the non 100 macro non L some shots will be on a tripod indoors and some handheld outdoors.

i know this game is a minefield of pitfalls, but youll just have to accept the rules. JUST FOR FUN

while Canon is dragging its feet to replace the outdated 100-400/4.5-5.6, Sony goes ahead with a 70-400mm F4-5.6 G SSM II lens announced today.

So my budget is around 1300$.
I just got a MkIII and mainly do video, still do pictures occasionally, but main focus is on videos.
Should I get a new 70-200mm F4 IS which is around 1200$ new
or get a used 70-200mm F2.8 IS (Mk i), which is average 1300$?
I only have a 50mm 1.4 atm.
Is the extra speed worth it? I mainly do videos outdoors, but will do indoor sometimes.

I have two strobes set up, each angles 45 degrees horizontally from the subject. Assuming no ambient light, if I shoot one at 1/4 power, and the second at 1/8, is that a 1:2 ratio? I'm assuming it is.

If I shoot one strobe at 1/4 power, and the second at 1/16, is that a 1:3 ratio?

Sorry for the ignorance, I just wanted to make sure I understood that concept correctly. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey guys,

After buying both of the Canon mk3 extenders I was rather disappointed that they can't be used together.. I thought it was strange as the 2x has the recess which it appears to accommodate the 1.4x but doesn't..

I thought that was crazy after previous versions could, so I thought I can make this work with some duct tape and super glue and nails..

Only joking.. What I did find that with a 12mm extension tube it will allow the 1.4x to sit behind the 2x and work fully...

Also the strange thing was it only picked up the 2x extender so its maximum aperture was 5.6 with both 2x and 1.4x being used.. Plus a bonus it focused to infinity

I'm mostly doing events, models and soon I will be shooting more weddings. I like wildlife and was thinking of the 100-400, but some people are saying the 70-200 2.8 II with 2X is just as good or at least close enough. I want to sell my EF-S glass and maybe get the 16-35 and the 2x TC. Would you look at getting anything else?

I have a Mark d5 III and the longest lens that I have is the 70 - 200mm 2.8. I am being asked to shoot indoor sports Basketball and hockey. I would like to get 300mm, but could only afford the 300mm 4, not sure if that will be fast enough and in mix low light conditions. Should I get the 300mm or get the 7d with the APC sensor which with the 70-200 2.8 give me the speed and 300+ distance?

I shoot Canon, both APS-C and Full Frame and consider them complimentary to each other. The recent rumors about a possible 7D upgrade have got me wondering...

Why doesn't someone create a reverse teleconverter? Something that you can put between your Canon EF lenses and an APS-C body. It could be something like a -1.6X or whatever. Since this would squeeze all of the light from the full frame image into a space the size of an APS-C sensor, I'm assuming you would gain approximately one stop plus of light. You would also have the advantage of having the same FOV on an APS-C body as you have on a full frame body and I'm assuming the same DOF.

If someone were to build this and it actually worked as described, I can see a huge market for it.

Is something like this possible? Am I nuts (don't answer this)? What do you think?

I went on a trip to Yosemite this weekend and I tried using the 5D mark III for night shoot for the first time. There was too much noise in live view compared to my friends 5D mark II, and made it too difficult to focus. It's worse at 5x digital zoom.

I'm wondering if this is a problem with my camera body or there is something I can turn on/off on the menu.

I'm not sure if any of these matters but my settings are:
Live View shoot - enable
AF mode - Live mode
Grid display - 3x3+diag
Exposure simulation - disable (i tried this both on and off with the same results)
Silent LV shoot - disable (not sure what this does, but I tried the 2 modes and did nothing)
metering timer - 16 sec

Hello all,

I'm trying to work and learn more with flat settings for video. I've shot some sample tests:

And I found that using Marvels, and even the manual flat settings as recommended by many on the site here...that when setting exposure in the viewer, that when it showed proper exposure in the in camera meter, that the output was quite overexposed.

On the test footage, on the two clips where I underexposed by about 2 stops, I had much better footage and room for color correction/grading...nothing was blown out like with the ones I'd set by the in camera meter.

Those test shots are also of me trying out setting white balance with and Expodisc which seemed to work pretty well...but this exposure things seems to be a problem I'm having....anyone else have this problem?

Over the last month I'm trying to get rid of the "Edelschrott" aka "Noble Glas Garbage" in my lens stable and turn more and towards the L lenses. With no L crops and me usualy using a 60D I gain a lot of reach from those glases with the 1.6 crop factor. But... I'm usualy not going for reach but for shallow DOF.

It seems that my initial idea about optics from the analog age is not covering the whole reality. I always thought if I bring the subject close to the lens, have the background far away from the subject, the lens as wide open as possible and the lens as long as convinient for the job I end up with a very shallow DOF. That means with nothing else changing, the longer the lens the more shallow the DOF

Now I use for example the EF 135L at F:2.0 I can mount it to my 5D and or 60D and I get the same AE of 200/1 Second at 2.0. So the crop does not cost me any light while extending my lens to 216mm.

If I mount the 70 200 L on my 5D I of course do not loose any light as well if I change the zoom from 130mm to 200mm at 2.8, however the DOF changes quiet a lot (gets more shallow)

The change from 135mm on the 5D to 216mm on the 60D however does not generate this effect (shallow DOF)
It actually looks more like I have now a wider DOF. To get a simmilar wide DOF with the 135mm still connected to the 5D I would have to change to F:3.5 or 4.5

All my friends say that is because FF gives a more shallow DOF than Crop anyway however I believe that this is not a fact of the sensor's build itself but of the distance of the lens towards the sensor.

If I'm not mistaken than 1:2.0 on the 135mm describes the relation between the diameter of the first optical element of the lens and the effective length of the lens 65.25/135 in this example. Putting the lens on a crop camera extends its effective length to 216 but does not change it's front element so we have now a 1:3.456 lens (which fits to my observation with the DOF on the 5D either by rule or incident)

Now to my question: How can the crop change the F number in regards to DOF but not in regards to the speed of the lens? And applied to the rest of the universe does this mean I need not only to convert the mm up but also the DOF capabilities down by 1.6 on all EF-S lenses?

It seems Zeiss's new 55mm f/1.4 lens which promises to be as sharp as current Canon 50mm lenses are at f/5.6 wide open is making a lot of news (50mm lenses tend to fall far behind other primes for image quality, delivering what 24mm and 85mm primes deliver wide open at f/4.0). In my own quest for a great 50mm prime I've looked at every 50mm prime thats ef compatible or ef adaptable made since 1970 and all deliever this mediocre image quality (though being 55mm is likely key in allowing the iq).

So Zeiss has cracked the high quality normal prime mystery that has eluded all other manufactures for decades.

The question is, now that the cat's out of the bag, will Canon fire back with a 55mm 1.4L?
