YN-622C multiple on camera flashes

So I've run into an issue and am not sure if there is any way around this or not. My goal is to have on-camera speedlights with a yn622c in between on each. A third flash will be used to bring up the ambient level of light. The issue I have is if camera A fires, camera B fires its on camera flash which could pose unexpected results. I was hoping there was a channel that was shared by all like on the the cheaper yongnuo triggers but I don't see anything like this. Is this just a limitation of the system or is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

Can Image Stabilisation limit the lifespan of a lens?

Hello everyone.

If possible, i could use a bit of your knowledge if anyone has any info on this. What i would like to know is whether IS will shorten the lifespan of a lens? The reason why i am asking is, here at my department we are looking on our options regarding lenses for some C100's we are buying for our students. So this lenses will be used only for video and after a few quick tests we did here in the office we noticed that the moment the camera is powered, if the IS is enabled on the lens it gets activated immediately and not just when you record. I repeat, this are for students so we are taking any precautions necessary to expand the lifespan of our equipment as they do usually get abused (in the wrong way). So, we do expect that students will enable IS on the lenses and then not switch them off EVER when shooting which means the system will be working overtime. So, coming back to my question, we are looking to see if the lenses with IS will actually be able to take any sort of abuse for the long run ! Trying to find any info around the net has been fruitless so far !

Many many thanks in advance fellow Canonians !!!

5D Mk III with 50mm f/1.8 II - bad images?

I bought a 5D Mark III last fall as I've gotten a very keen interest in DSLR photography and I saved up a couple of months to afford the beast of a camera. Unfortunately, the only lens I could afford was the cheap nifty-fifty.

And I don't know if it's me being an amateur, but I think the images it takes are pretty crappy. Is it because of the bad lens? I'm saving up for an L lens but it may take a while.

What are your thoughts? Am I just being paranoid?

Here are some shots.

New Sigma 18-35 F/1.8 Zoom priced at only $799

Sigma's 18-35 F/1.8 zoom for APS-C is coming in at only $799 w/ the hood included:
http://photorumors.com/2013/06/14/simga-announces-pricing-for-the-18-35mm-f1-8-dc-hsm-lens/

LOL, Engadget thought an "industry-first" like this would cost a wee bit more: http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/18/sigma-announces-18-35mm-f-1-8-dc-hsm/

I personally was expecting this to coming in around $1,000-$1,200 even though it's APS-C only. A first is still a first, and I'm not convinced something is so easily 'priced out of APS-C user territory' with so many sports / wildlife guys plugging much more expensive glass on their 7Ds.

Any of you surprised by the $799 figure?

Moving from Canon 40D to Full Frame. Lens questions?

I currently have a Canon 40D and I'm looking at getting a 6D. I was wondering if some of the L lenses I have will work well on the 6D?

I'm concerned about my Canon 28-80 2.8-4 L and 17-40 L lenses. I've heard the full frame cameras are very demanding in terms of glass and showing flaws. The 28-80 L was introduced in 1989 and I've read reviews that state the 17-40 looks like crap on a 5D Mark II as far as vignetting.

I don't want to have to buy new L lenses because my older L lenses aren't up to par.

Thanks!

Is it time to consider Sigma lenses seriously?? competitive to Canon?

Hey guys. I am an amateur/hobbyist photographer that loves to keep up on the forums and on cr. I was wondering what you guys take on the new lenses that Sigma has been putting out on the market. The price ranges are very competitive even to the Canon brand. I am a Canon fanboy (to put it best) but the recent 35mm f1.4, 120-300mm f2.8, and now the 18-35mm f1.8is making me think much more of a third party brand. A friend of mine had a sigma 50mm f1.4 that pulled some impressive pictures! I have bought and returned a sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 lens before... horrid lens (possibly the copy).

Anyways, I want to hear from y'all before buying a few lenses. (10-22, 50 1.4, and 15-85 or 24-105) Thanks!

<p><strong>Various reports say it is

</strong>We’ve heard from a few people that the EF 70-200 f/2.8L is in the process of being discontinued.</p>
<p>A few people have said they have attempted to get broken lenses fixed and have been told by Canon USA that parts for the repair are no longer available and will not be in the future either.</p>
<p>Another report says an EF 70-200 f/2.8L that was in disrepair was replaced with a refurbished EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II at no extra cost. However, don’t go breaking your lenses, as this may have been a one off.</p>
<p>I would imagine the current stock of the lens at retailers will probably be the last of them. I’ve heard nothing about a replacement for the lens, even though I do think there is a place for Non-IS lenses such as this one.</p>

400 2.8 vs 200-400 4.0 1.4

There was an old thread that went back and forth between these before the 200-400 was actually out. Now that it is out I wanted to revisit. Much of the thread was based on how the the IQ would be on the 200-400. The reviews are that the IQ is very good so you are not losing much by going with the zoom. I'm considering trading in my 400 2.8 pros/cons as I see it.

400 2.8
1 stop better aperture so better low light performance
Better bokeh/DOF

200-400 4.0
More versitile focal length. I lose many shots during sports games when the players get too close to me.
Worse low light performance but with my 1Dx is that really much of a consideration given the higher ISO performance. Shooting day games, evening games, and sometimes a play or concert inside?
Do I lose much of the Bokeh/DOF at 4.0 vs 2.8?

Tough call. I really like the versatility of the zoom but wonder if I will miss the DOF?

Any thoughts?

Geotagging - best method in LR

Hi

Just curious if anyone does geo tagging of their images which are stored in LR.

I have looked at Canon's solutions and the major drawback is that the GP-E2 (and E1) occupy the hot shoe which limit flash. i guess with 1Dx and 600EX-RT I could go wireless but not with a 5DM3, if I have the flash off the camera.

Any thought how to do this? Is the best h/w the canon GP-E2 or should I get a some sort of GPS unit and simply merge location and image in LR. I don't need to know exact direction, just general location (this park or area of a park).

A not very good solution is to use my iphone in each area of the park but that is awkward and I am sure I would forget.

Thanks

Rich

banning people for nothing at canon rumors

in behalf of the member canon-f1 i post this (i did send it to the admin too):

he asked me to do so as he knows me as a fellow german member.

canon-f1 said:
mt spokane photography bans member just for disagreeing with him.

he has banned me permanently for no reason.

i wonder if he can present ANY reason for this permanent ban other then his ego.

check my posts and look if there is anything from me for that i deserve to be banned.

he is just one of these mods who have nothing in real life so the act like little dictators in virtual life.

the reason i was banned for must be this:

well spokane did not notice the error... so all is fine and adobe and all who have an issue are wrong.

i did not wrote anything after that.
and nothing before, that justifies a ban.. outside mt spokanes head of course

if he dares to say there was... he should post it!!

i have to say i looked at his last posts and i don´t see why he was permanently banned. ???

<p><strong>Another patent

</strong>This is probably the third separate patent I have seen for an EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS over the last 24 months. A zoom ring version does exist in the wild. We’re told the push/pull is finished and we’ll get a properly sealed 100-400. The cost will be north of $2500 USD and we could finally see it announced before the end of the year. Also appearing in the patent is a 70-300.</p>

2nd Body - your thoughts?

Hi guys,
It took me almost 3yrs to accomplish my ultimate goal, to own some of Canon popular lenses: 50L - 85L II - 135L – 16-35L II – 24-70L II – 70-200L f2.8 IS II

To avoid swapping lenses, I’m thinking getting 2nd body to pair it up with my 5D III.

My thoughts:
1. I’m 100% sure that I DO NOT want crop sensor. I want to shoot in low light without flash

2. I’m @ 60% on 1D X – due to high price tag, size, and I’m not shooting anything @ extremely fast.

3. I’m @ 80% on 5D III – just perfect for my needs.

4. I’m @ 90% on 6D – due to lower price tag. The price tag between 6D Vs 5D III is $1500 -$1700 dif. That $ can be easily go to my next DREAM lens, 400mm f2.8 IS.

My setup: all my f2.8 zoom lenses will go with 5D III for general shooting – more likely just 24-70 II. All my prime lenses will go with 6D for close up, portrait and still shots - more likely 85L or 135L.

Would love to have your inputs, especially from 5D III & 6D owners :)

Thanks
Dylan

5d Mark III w/ Tamron 24-70 f2.8vc

I've finally decide to take the plunge and get the mkIII. With all these awesome reviews and pictures from around the web I couldn't resist anymore. I'm actually coming from a 60d which was ok for when I first started to learn about photography but now I feel I need a little bit more camera. So with the mkIII I wanted a decent lens that I could use for a while and not regret. I looked into the 24-70 II but couldn't justify paying over $2k for a lens with no IS so I decided to go with the tamron 24-70 which has been getting great reviews.

I've seen a couple pictures taken with the tamron 24-70 here and there but wanted to see if anyone on here had that combo and if they could post some pics. I'm sure some people are like me and are debating about the image quality of a 3rd party lens on the 5d mkiii.

So lets see em'

24-70 f/4L IS vs 24-105L

Does anyone have experience with these two lenses? In particular, the IS on both. I'm interested in buying a new 24-something lens for full frame purposes. Also how would these lenses compare with the 17-55 in terms of IQ? Anyone got sample images of the new 24-70 f/4L?

I've had a play about with both lenses. The 24-105L has the advantage of being almost half the price. But is it a mistake to go from a 17-55 to 24-105? Image stabilization is more important than wider apertures so for now the 24-70II is out.

Not a fan of Tamron so that's out too.

Bizarre grid "pattern" with Rebel t3i/600d

Hey forum,
I've noticed this really weird square, almost signal noise looking pattern on photos from my t3i recently that I'm not quite sure how to describe or explain.

For reference, check out this B/W image:
http://silvestography.tumblr.com/post/50593894995/another-one-from-le-mont-saint-michel-i-would

If you look especially in that stone "frame" area around the statue, you can see there's this grid pattern where the gridlines are sharper-looking than the insides of the squares. My bet is this is normal and has some very scientific explanation but I just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this. Thanks!

I have been wanting to sell some of my Canon camera gear and thought about my options. There's the usual suspects: eBay, Craigslist, other forums, etc. -- Other forums ??? Hey! this is a forum. What better place than right here on CR. 8)

There needs to be buy-in, willing participants, rules, fees for listing, disclaimers - the usual stuff. The fees can be used as a way to offset CR site management (well, maybe not) but maybe a little bit ;D

So how about it -- Can we make this happen or would this be an exercise in futility?
