Good Deal for Used Canon 7D?

A friend of mine knows that I've been looking for a new camera and his friend is selling his for $700 for body only with 3K shutter count with 1 battery and charger. $820 for the body, battery grip, 4 batteries, 2 chargers, and memory card. The Owner had it for 2 years.

I'm thinking of purchasing it although I really want the Canon 6D coz of low light performance.

What do you guys think or what would you do?

About a REPLACE MENT FOOT RRS LCF-52: Foot for Canon EF300mm/f2.8 IS-II

Dear Forum contributors and wise adviser!

Not having any experience about replacement foot I am about to purchase the Canon EF300mm/f2.8 IS II USM and I am considering to right from the beginning purchase a replacement foot for the lens.
However there is a few to make the choice of.
But I am mostly into the RRS clamps and ballheads and tilt head from RRS.
So please is the RRS the best option?
1. a RRS LCF-52: Foot for Canon EF300mm/f2.8 IS-II Cost in Euro: 111.90€
Or should I instead choose one of these:
2. A Jobu Quick Release Lens Plate Replacement Foot LF-C504M2 - Euro 99.95€
or 3. a Kirk Quick Release Lens Plate LP-59 for Canon 300mm f/2.8 IS II USM Euro 78.95€ incl. VAT

All look good but somehow I am a bit tempted to go with the Really Right Stuff LCF:52 with the weight of only 68 g!

I would very much appreciate your thoughts and advice if you have time and interest in this question about replacement feet to tele-photo-lenses.

Wishing you All the Very Best!

That's my money you are profiting from Canon!!!

From the net - http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/04/24/canon-earnings-idINDEE93N05I20130424

"Canon Inc raised its full-year operating profit forecast by $300 million as a weakening yen triggered by Japan's latest deflation-fighting policies inflates its overseas earnings, despite smartphones sapping compact camera sales."

So much for people who were anticipating a fall in prices of Canon products due to JPY devaluation.

Interestingly smartphones have started eating into the P&S sales. I am not surprised.

270 ex ii or 430 exii for vacation

I am going to disney with my 5d. I have a 600 ex and want a lighter speedlite for portraits on the trip. Just torn because the 270 is small and seems like it will cover with my 24-70 ii. I do like the extra power of the 430 for fighting the outdoor lighting also but double the batteries and much larger. Anyone use the 270 in a similar situation and was happy or should i just lug the 430?

Canon 50 1.2 L

I just bought a canon 50 L lens and was checking it over this evening; I shook it lightly, and it rattled a little bit. I also have to micro adjust the focus on it on my 5D Mk III 15 points!! Never had to do it that much with any of my other lenses! On my 1dx I have to adjust it the same direction 5 points. Should I return the lens? Or send it to Canon? Or just live with it? I need some advice from someone with a little more experience.

High noise at low ISO

Dear Friends,
Have just shot some footage using Canon 5D Mark III @ 500 ISO(!), 1920 x 1080 ALL-I, ZEISS ZE-series lenses.
Here are the grabs from the footage while playing in QuickTime.
Shot in Technicolor Cinestyle profile. No editing/grading whatsoever.
The question is - how come the noise is so bad?
1. Could I mess up the settings?
2. Is it a sensor issue (i.e. technically bad performance of the sensor itself)?
3. Could it be the Firmware issue?
4. ???
5. ???
Any word of advice is absolutely precious.
Thanks from Moscow, Russia.

50mm 1.2L vs 35mm 1.4L for events photography...

Hi All, it's been some time since I've posted on this forum and once again I need all your feedbacks, mates!
I'm debating between the 50mm 1.2L vs. the 35mm 1.4L. They are priced pretty similar, so price is not an issue.
I will be using this mainly for weddings.

Currently I'm using 5D M2 w/ 70-280mm 2.8 v2; 24-70 f4L & 50mm 1.8.
I find the 50mm 1.8 not meeting my needs in low lighting.

So, bottom line, which lens would you go for and why?

Thanks again!!

Review - The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS

Hi again! For those interested in reading a review of this excellent lens along with a lot of sample images taken with it, I have just posted a review to my website at: http://www.dustinabbott.net/2013/04/canon-70-300mm-f4-5-6l-is-review-the-ultimate-zoo-lens/

Among the things I address are its use with teleconverters (sample images included). A lot of you are now familiar with my review technique, but in case you aren't, this is a real world review with pictures of things as opposed to charts. I am a part time professional photographer with a lot of real experience. If you don't care to look at the review, here is the conclusion: I like the lens...a lot 8)

Who can clean and repair an old 28-70 2.8?

I have a 28-70 2.8 that is likely close to 15 years old. Looking through it now is almost like looking through fog.
It's still usable, and AF operates normally, but besides the fog issues I don't feel the images produced are tack sharp.
I would like to get it cleaned, checked, and calibrated and if possible be put back in serviceable condition.
Canon no longer offers support for this older model lens.
Anyone here know of a shop that can get this lens back to decent shape?

Replacement 400d - 650d vs. 6d

Hi everyone,
been a lurker for some time, great forum, would love to get your advice.

I've been shooting with a 400d (Rebel XTi?) since 2007 and have been happy enough with the size, handling and IQ outdoors. I have an EF 28-135 IS and an EF 50 1.4 and a Speed Lite 580.
I feel like it's time for an update. The things I'm missing most are low-light capabilities (I try not to go over ISO 400 and only use ISO 800 when REALLY needed), so I'm often stuck with my 50 mm lens indoors. I love that little lens, but on a crop body I would just need something wider. Would also love a better auto-focus since currently 90 % of the pics I take are of my toddler, second one on the way.

Now there are two possibilities I thought of:
Get a 6d, that way my lenses would be more wide-angle, I'd have amazing low light possibilities and an improved auto focus. Might want to add a 100 mm Macro (non-L) since I'd like a Macro lens anyways and I could use it for portraits as well. Cons: Size (quite happy only shlepping a Rebel around), price. Not sure how much better the auto focus would do. Otoh would focus in low light.

The alternative would be 650d/700d or 100d. Pro: Somewhat improved light sensitivity, the question is just how much compared to what I currently have. Also smaller size compared to a 6d. Would have money left over to buy new lenses. As an extreme example 600€ for a 650d plus 2100€ for a 24-70 2.8 Lii is the same as a 1800€ 6d plus a 900€ 24-105 4L :)

The other question would be whether it would make sense to still use my 28-135? I'm happy with the image quality but would it be the same on a FF sensor? (On the one hand bigger pixels, but on the other hand more vignetting?) The other question would be how much IQ I would give up on on a 6D. If not: What replacement to get? What "resolution" would that lense have? When I replace in a couple of years, would I have to buy new again?

Money is a factor, I would not be making any money with that equipment and in all likelihood won't in the future. The question is therefore more how much more light sensitivity, IQ and auto focus improvement I would get in a 6D, and whether it's worth the extra cash.

Thanks a lot

Can you use the ST-E3 or 600ex-rt triggering on a non-Canon camera?

Hi all. I generally shoot Canon, and own a kit with six 600s and an ST-E3. I have a job coming up in which I'll be shooting on Mamiya / Phase One, and am wondering if there's a way to use the radio triggering for the 600s. Any chance that the ST-E3 works to send out a manual "fire" command if it's on the off-brand hot shoe, or connected to pc cord?

Been searching and can't find an answer online. And ironically don't have an off-brand camera here to test with. Thanks for any insight. John

Buying Lenses Online without Import Charges

I just wanted to share an amazing experience I had with E-infinity camera store.

In short, I live in the UK, but I wanted to buy the 24-70 II without having to pay the premium UK prices or get slammed with import charges from buying via e bay.

I stumbled across e-infinty (www.e-infin.com) who had pretty darn good prices and promised no import or customs charges (apparently they ship from Hong Kong to their UK warehouse. Then from there to you). Their e bay profile had hundreds of top notch feedback, but their non - e bay store had slightly better prices.

So, I took the plunge and bought from their store. A few of days later they sent me a link to pictures of my lens box before and after being wrapped for Next Day shipping-- which I thought was awesome!

Anyways, long story short, they are legit, the contact I had with them was top notch and my lens and packaging arrived in immaculate shape. I would highly recommend them to anyone and will buy from them again if I make any more major purchases before I move back to the States.

That's it-- just thought I'd share :)

6D viewfinder too big ?

Hi

New to this forum :)

I just got my new canon 6d and I simply love it. Before, I had the canon XSi. One thing that I noticed is that when I look in the 6d viewfinder, it is very big. It nearly impossible to see it all. With the XSI, the visible square was smaller and I could easily see the image I was going to take. But with the 6d, I cant see the edges all at once. I have to move my head a bit from left t right to see it all. And if I waer my glasses, its even worst since my eyes are a bit farther.

Is is due to the full frame sensor? Anyone else noticed this ?

The lens that will never be…. it seems

Juza from JuzaPhoto.com had a chance to play with the upcoming, but yet-to-be-officially-announced EF 200-400 f/4L IS 1.4x. As with most previews, he was not allowed to post any images taken with the lens.

The interesting part of the article is at the end where he claims the lens will be available in mid 2014. That’s still a pretty long wait!

“One last thought is about price and availability. Canon has not said anything about price, but it won’t be cheap – my bet is between $9000 and $10000; availability is expected in mid 2014. As soon as the final version will be in production I’m going to try it to see its real image quality!”

Seeking 1D(S) Mark III owners experience with using new battery LP-E4N

I recently bought the LP-E4N battery pack to replace the original (LP-E4) I got with the 1DS Mark III. According to Canon, this new battery pack is compatible with the 1D Mark III and IV cameras models:

http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2013/lp-e4n_battery_pack.shtml

I would like to hear from people that are using this battery with these cameras if anyone have experienced the same issue that I am having. I have bought 2 LPE-4N's (new, manufactured in July 2012), and with both batteries the camera will occasionally lock-up. The power will stay on, but the camera is completely freezed and the only way to shot it down is to pull out the battery. When I the insert the battery again it will work as normal for a while. I have had never experienced a similar issue with the LP-E4.

The issue happens sporadically and appears to be completely erratic, at least I have no idea what causes it and I can't reproduce it at will. I have tried different shooting modes (one-shot and AI servo) and drive modes and even lenses.

I made a complete calibration and recharge of the batteries when I bought them on my LC-E4 charger. I am starting to wonder if issue with the new battery pack could somehow be caused by the higher capacity or safety changes to comply with the Japanese standards... At this point it seems to me that it must be a compatibility issue with the new battery, as I have never experienced any issue with my original LP-E4.

Thanks in advance for your feedback to anyone using this camera/battery combination!

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 22, 2013 – Canon Inc., today announced that the company’s EOS line of interchangeable-lens digital cameras (Digital SLR and compact-system cameras) have consistently maintained the No. 1 share worldwide in terms of volume within the interchangeable-lens digital camera market for the 10-year period from 2003 to 2012.*1

In addition to interchangeable lenses, Canon also develops its own key components – the CMOS image sensors and image processors – employed in the company’s interchangeable-lens cameras, incorporating the most advanced of these technologies in its flagship EOS-1D series. By applying these technologies to other models as well, Canon has successfully created a powerful product lineup that effectively responds to the needs of a wide range of users, from professionals to entry-level users, which has enabled the company to maintain the top global share.

In 2003, the dawn of Digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS Digital Rebel, a compact and lightweight user-friendly camera that set the stage for growth in the Digital SLR market while, at the same time, captured the top share of the global market. Since that time, Canon, in the company’s ongoing pursuit of high image quality, has launched a number of models targeting advanced-amateur users that offer among the highest levels of performance for their class, including the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for Digital SLR video recording.

In 2012, Canon celebrated the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the EOS camera system and marked its 10th consecutive year as the market’s world leader. During the year, Canon launched the compact-system EOS M, aimed at expanding the company’s entry-level user base, along with the EOS 6D, the world’s smallest and lightest*2 Digital SLR camera equipped with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor, which contributed to the growth of the advanced-amateur user segment.

This year, Canon introduced the EOS Rebel SL1, the world’s smallest and lightest*2 Digital SLR camera equipped with an APS-C-size sensor, bolstering its product lineup with a model befitting the industry’s top brand while targeting its 11th straight year as the world’s market leader.

With a history of producing cameras that dates back to the company’s founding in 1937, Canon will continue refining its diverse imaging technologies based on its core optical technologies, striving to produce exceptional and reliable lenses and cameras that cater to the varying needs of photographers-from first-time users to advanced amateurs and professionals-while contributing to expanding the photographic and video imaging culture.

April 23, 2013

Normally, if you don’t see press invites about a week before, there’s nothing in the pipeline as far EOS goes. An example would be these. Lenses can sometimes be announced without any press event, as was the case with the EF 24-70 f/4L IS.

I do believe there is some truth to the delays mentioned in this post.

More to come…
