So, saw a CL posting for this lens for $525, supposedly glass in perfect condition with front & rear caps, filter (?), and case. Says it's already converted for Canon. From what bit I've seen out on the web (can't take hours to read them all), it looks like a nice lens, and quite interesting and as a MF lens would force me to shoot a bit differently, and likely be a pretty nice portrait lens. So, anyone ever use this lens? Worth buying for that price assuming it's perfect glass as state?

i wonder if an entry level FF from canon would come with the 1D X sensor or the 5D MK3 sensor.

if the 1D X sensor is not significantly better, would it make not more sense to use this sensor for an entry level FF?
even when the high iso performance is better, it will sure be crippled via firmware to 12800 or 25.600.

and 18 MP will differentiate it from the 22 MP 5D MK3 sensor.
beside the AF that will sure be less effectiv, that´s another way to differentiate both.

I've found lots of conflicting information online about what gear can be taken into Olympic venues. There seems to be a general consensus on nothing over 30cm long but some sites say that certain venues (e.g. Wembley) prohibit anything "pro" including anything with interchangeable lenses. Bags must be able to fit under seats, but that shouldn't be a problem with any of my lenses.

Anything confiscated won't be returned, and I'm keen neither to miss my sessions nor to lose my camera. Has anyone actually been into the aquatics centre or the Olympic stadium with something like a 5D body + any of 135 f/2, 35mm f/1.4 (or even a 70-200 f2.8 )? I'd like some record of the day better than iPhone pics...

I am looking to buy 4 eos cams for a church going on local tv (no IMAG only record). Looking at t4i or eos m for focus reasons. Can not find a clear enough answer about total recordring time options online. We need shallow DOF because of video screen behind the speaker so standard prosumer video cams look bad.

1. What is the max continuous recording time on any size card for 1080. I have seen 22min listed for an 8gig card but is that because of the card size?
2. Is there a limit on how many gig a card size can be used?
3. If there is a max time, can i start a second right away? if so about how long a gap between clips.
4. Is a 5 or 7 any better for recording time? The new $15k cinema even? I mighjt be able to swing one good cam like the cinema for continuity and three t4i with pauses every so often. (leave the 4k wide and pan and crop in post.)

About to recomend a big purchase and would like a push in the right direction.

I shot high burst rate mode this evening of some kids throwing grapes at each other. I chose 4 photos, two of the thrower and 2 of the throwee if you will. She missed but oh well. The third photo, the grape is at the top of the frame. Even 1/1000s was too slow, but it was evening shade light with no real way to increase the shutter speed. It was just a test.

.... a profesinal photographer.

I could sit and look at these pictures all day long....

"There are some interesting murmurings in the world of camera rumors. Photokina is just around the corner, and if the rumors are to be believed, we’ll be seeing some pretty earth-shattering unveilings at the German trade show.

CanonWatch recently received information about an upcoming medium format DSLR by Canon, to be announced at Photokina.

The camera will reportedly offer an EF mount, but may not be compatible with the entire lineup of EF lenses:

[...] newer EF lenses will be supported and (older) lenses with popular focal lengths that actually are suited for full frame sensors will see new editions for the medium format camera (possibly in Spring 2013). Since an EF mount accepts all EF lenses, the only way I can figure out you can block certain EF lenses from being used is through electronic sensing (my speculation). It is not known if the medium format DSLR will have a mechanical interlock for EF-S lenses (though I think this is more than plausible).

It would certainly be an interesting move by Canon. Just months after announcing a cinema DSLR to compete against the likes of RED, Canon would be diving headfirst into a market occupied by the likes of Pentax and Hasselblad.

On a slightly less earth-shattering note, SonyAlphaRumors is reporting with certainty that Sony has a NEX-6 camera prepped and ready for launch.

The camera would be a smaller counterpart to the enormously popular NEX-7 — a top-seller amongst mirrorless cameras. They write,

[...] this will be a sort of “mini-NEX-7″. It has an integrated viewfinder like the NEX-7 but with a tiny bit lower EVF resolution. The camera will be cheaper than the NEX-7 and price right in the middle between the NEX-5F (also coming in September) and the current NEX-7.

Get ready: we might be in for a boatload of exciting announcements come next month.

Well, I'm not sure what to do. I'm currently using only my 50mm 1.2 lens and I'm considering selling/trading it towards the 35mm 1.4. (and maybe repurchase the 50mm 1.4 or 1.8)

I want one of them for a kind of everyday lens for general walkaround use.

Looking for some opinions on people that have used/own both and which they lean more towards and why.

On top of that I'm not too sure if I maybe want to hold off and see what gets announced in the next months as the mark II of the 35 seems to be a pretty strong rumor for the past year or so - but who really knows.

Anywho, would love to hear some insight from everyone.

Hey everyone so here in a couple of weeks im going to be getting the Canon 7d, But i heard that they are coming out with a new 7d camera, should i wait on it? or what should i do ? :-\

I love going to concerts. Sometimes I get good seats but when I don't I need a good zoom.
Just bought the SX260. I took my nieces to the Miami zoo and I must say I was very impressed with the 20x optical zoom and quality of the 12MP photos.
I used the camera in full Manual mode which is great for a pocket camera.
One big time flaw I found is the electronic pop up flash. It's positioned on the
Left top, exactly where your left finger rests
To hold the camera... If the flash needs to pop up and your finger is covering it, the mechanism will get stuck and give you and error saying the position of the flash is wrong and to restart the camera to reset it.
I can believe Canon could have such a design flaw...
Otherwise, the camera is fast, the focus is spot on and the quality is great for a $299 camera.

Some really great condition 1ds III's are coming out for sale about the same price of a new 5 dIII and I wanted some advice on weather its better to get the older pro camera or the newer mid range camera. Does anyone have some good advice?

I am about to purchase a new camera and i trying to decide what lens I should get. I can only afford to get one lens initially and am tossing up between the 24-105mmf4 and the 24-70mmf2.8. What way would you go? or would you recommend something different?

I am just getting back into photography and have not got specific subject matter in mind, so I am after something flexible and will add more job specific lenses to the collection later - but am after a good all-rounder to get started... what lens is on your camera most often??

Someone who is interested in this lens asks if the second and third number of the serial number are 22, 44, 77 or 99 because Canon uses this to codify lenses of higher quality. The vendor who claims to work for some kind of magazine or the like agrees and says this is a known fact for insiders.

I never heard something about such a codification and think it is BS. Do you know more?

Hi, i am currently using 5d markii ... but have some intention to get the 5dm3. But i have some question would like to ask all the 5dm3 user. i know the 5dm3 has great improvement in iso performance.. However, does it only applied when shooting in JPEG ? How is the noise performance if 5dm3 shooting in RAW compared to 5dm2 shooting in RAW? This is important for me as i mostly shoot in RAW format and i found that iso performance in 5dm2 is not that great after exceed 1600. Thanks

Brand new 70-200 II used on my 7D for a month or so (5000+ frames ) not a spec of dirt on the rear element.

70-200 II On the 1DX used for 2 events 3500 frames what looks like lubrication spray on the rear element.

Never had this issue with my old 1D's but none of them were this fast - anyone else have this issue?

I have had this spray on my 50mm but that's easy to clean in comparison.

I currently have the 550d rebel. I'm happy with it, and the IQ is very nice for the price.
My only gripe is the auto focus. I use the center point only and re-compose.
However, even this method, seems to be both somewhat slow, and not tack on accurate. I find my fast primes (50 1.4, 35 1.4) lacking in AF accuracy and speed.

My question is: Would the 650d give me any advantage here, as far as AF accuracy and speed, using its center point only ? I understand that even on the 550d the center point is extra sensitive ? On the other hand, I seem to see on some websites an explanation showing the center point of the 650d even better (like the 60d) ??

Can one of our tech oriented seasoned members clarify this for me?

Is there ANY real advantage for stills - moving from 550d to 650d (another question) ?

I am looking to move up from my current EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens to one of Canon's supertele primes. The 100-400 is a good lens, particularly if your just starting out with wildlife and birds, but it definitely has its limitations. I primarily shoot birds, with some wildlife and general nature stuff mixed in. I pretty much always shoot at 400mm for birds and wildlife. I used to shoot at f/5.6 to blur out backgrounds, however this lens is fairly soft at that aperture. Fine feather detail, even of perching/wading/still birds, does not show up well. I've more recently begun to shoot at f/7.1, however I frequently run into lighting issues, particularly during the more early morning/late afternoon times (when I am usually out shooting), and end up needing ISO 3200 more often than I would prefer (the 7D does well up through 2500 (excluding 2000), but above that it really goes down hill.)

I am looking to get a prime lens that will be versatile enough for the kind of work I do, while being as sharp as possible wide open. From what I've read, the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 L II IS USM is one of, if not the, sharpest lens Canon makes. I currently own a 1.4x TC, and would probably grab a 2x TC as well if I picked up an f/2.8 supertele prime. I'm curious what the hand-holdability of this lens is, though. It sounds like it rolls in at about 5.2 pounds? Thats about 2.2 pounds heavier than the 100-400, not counting the weight of a TC. With a 2x TC, that adds nearly another pound, bringing total weight to about 6 pounds or so. Using the 100-400mm+7D all day, my wrist tends to get a bit sore...and I'm wondering if anyone has experience using this lens hand-held with a TC on a regular basis. I'd also be curious to know how the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L II IS USM lens is in the same context.

Any thoughts or reviews on how the new 24mm F/2.8 with IS stacks up against the 24mm F/1.4L.

Seems a tad like the 24-105 F/4 w IS vs. the 24-70 2.8.

I recently got my email from Canon informing me on the grip recall as we all have known for a while now, so I called the number they gave out and here are the details. Estimated total repair time (including shipping) is between 2.5 to 3 weeks according to my support representative. Shipping will involve sending the body only in it's original box with the body cap on and bubble wrapped with nothing else, and then that has to be put into another box for shipment. All shipping (at least in the US) is going to be done via FedEx Express 2 Day Air (I work for FedEx and can say I trust my camera to be sent this way).

has anyone heard when Pocketwizard will do the firmware update to make the hyper sync flash work with the 5DmkIII? I know I keep reading that it is their #1 priority, but does that mean 1 week out or 4 months out?
