Shoot JPEG again with 5D3

Do some of you guys start shooting Jpeg again with the 5D3 - it is slowly the fact with me: the camera is so much fun to use and jpegs are so good especially high iso that I set the m-fn button to change from RaW to Jpeg Hold. Not every shot needs that massive PP and the camera to my eyes has a good jpeg engine.

135/2 is really fun to use with this AF system. I enjoy total peace of mind: no zoom, no thin MF, just frame and shoot... What a relief!

Going to San Diego Zoo next week. What zoom lens would you rent?

First, has anyone ever been there? It's actually going to be a small part of my California vacation. I plan on shooting some at the beaches as well (surfers, sailboats, skimpy bikinis, volleyball games)

I am a 5d2 owner and have decent lenses below 100mm. My telephoto is the 70-300 IS (non-L). I am reluctant to rent the 70-200 f/4.0 IS because I think more reach would be needed.

I am thinking either 70-300L or 100-400L. Maybe the 300 f/4.0 IS? As always, money is an object. Any recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks guys

Advice: On buying 5D3.

I've been shooting for just over 2 years now, invested around 6K in Canon gear, and i've been waiting for the 5D3 to come out for a long time so i can finally have the Full Frame Advantage.

However after looking at the DXO ratings, and the Fred Miranda review (in regards to pulling the shadows up to par with the image) i can't help to feel betrayed by Canon. it looks like the D800 jus took a HUGE DUMP on Canon.

With all of this said, how can i justify dropping 3.5K on this camera? I've started off with 7D so i haven't seen the what seems to be the disappointment of the 5D II AF system. I have the money, i'm ready to spend. I just need the convincing that this will be a worthwhile investment.

Background: 19 Y/O, Own: 7D, 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm L. 70-200mm L 2.8 Mark II, Sigma 10mm Fisheye (ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH 1.6 sensors.), and the 530EXII. Plan on getting internship to shoot weddings to build up my portfolio this summer. This camera seems like THE WEDDING CAMERA.

So, some professionals/enthusiasts/knowledgeable people. Give me some advice, i'd really appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

Edit: I frequent Canon Rumors daily, and have been reading forums for as long as i've been looking at this site, this is my first post however, bear that in mind. hahaha Cheers.

Going to Disneyland and San Diego and need lens help

I just bought the canon 5d3 with 24-105 and came from a 60d. I am having a hard time looking thru old pictures finding affordable lens choices for my upcoming trip. I have twins and will be taking shots of about 4-6 people during group shots and then the scenery shots.

I only have a $1500 budget.
I considered the following but can only afford one option
24mm mkii
35mm 1.4
70-200mm f4is

Anyone tried using digital crop 10-20 sigmas with FF?

Hi all,

I've done some reading and found that my trusty Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 DC HSM is an EF mount that can work safely on my new FF body (i.e. not like an EFS where the mirror will clang the back element).

It vignettes massively, but creates fun square cropped fisheye style images that seem to be nice economical way to do get that fisheye effect without forking out on a dedicated lens that I'll only use once in a blue moon.

Interested if anyone else is making use of this particular bodge? Or doing similar experiments? Any examples?

Cheers

Very long lenses could become redundant...........??

With high density sensors coming on stream at a fast rate image size on your computer screen increases in proportion to the square root of the Mp.
Thus when (not if!) the current 7D 18Mp is superceded with say a 24Mp sensor (the R3200 already has 24Mp but on a slightly bigger sensor) a 600mm lens becomes equivalent to a 693mm and so on.
Perhaps in say ten years time there will no longer be a need for huge focal length and Canon/Nikon will not make anything bigger than a 400/2.8 with a built in 1.4xTC!
Assuming of course they can do something about improving S/N ratio of those tiny pixels.

Install DPP without a CD ROM?

Both of my computers no longer have a CD ROM (this is 2012 after all)... how am I supposed to install DPP when Canon only offers downloads of updaters that require software already be present? WTF?! Are they afraid someone who doesn't own a Canon camera might want to run their RAW files through DPP for fun?!

I tried these instructions, but Canon have obviously changed something in the installer for the Mac...

Any ideas?

Re: Settings preview on LCD Screen

Hello All,

Enjoy wealth of knowledge and some of the great photography on the forum.

I have a question re 5D Mark III. I believe I was able to preview my settings (ISO, AF-Drive and AF) on LCD Screen. I had reset my settings and when I press AF-Drive, for instance I no longer seem to be able to view them on LCD Screen (only on LCD Panel). Has anyone experienced this?

Thx Opatije

New Tokina 10-17 f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye & 5D M III

Anybody has tried the new Tokina for FF model AT-X 107 AF DX NH Fisheye on the 5D MIII ??

Here it is: http://www.thkphoto.com/tokina/products/atx/atx107afdxnhfisheye/

I find no pictures in Pixel Peeper..

http://www.pixel-peeper.com/adv/?lens=1089&camera=1113&perpage=12&focal_min=none&focal_max=none&aperture_min=none&aperture_max=none&iso_min=none&iso_max=none&exp_min=none&exp_max=none&res=3

Maybe you have some photos to show of this new product? I think it may be a serious contender to the Canon EF 8-18 f/4L.

differences in color between Mark ii and Mark iii?

So we got lucky and secured two Mark iii bodies from Amazon and received them at the end of March. At least we thought they would be a great replacement for our Mark ii bodies.

Now, after noticing a difference in color, we wanted to make sure and ran some tests. There is a definite difference in the color that we are getting. Skin tones look way too red. I am at loss, and registering here to see if anyone is experiencing this? I am highly hopeful it is something in our settings, but we color balanced with both white and gray cards and all the shots come like this.

Both images were taken exactly the same with 24-70 lens iso100 1/160 f/8.0
We have tried multiple things and they are all coming this way, on both new bodies.
Any suggestions?

Will Apple Preview support 5D Mark III RAW files?

With my T1I, if I went to a CR2 raw file on my Mac and pressed the space bar, Preview would open and display the image in the file. With my 5D Mark III, this no longer works. In a conversation with Apple Support today, they were unable to say whether support for this new CR2 file would be provided. They sort of implied that it wouldn't be, but said it was up to engineering, and that they could not speak for engineering.

Firmware Version 1.1.2

Can't seem to update my 5D Mark iii with the Firmware Version 1.1.2. Wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I only tried by using connecting camera to computer by usb cable then going into the EOS Utility. Fimware is suppose to fix these issues below (which by the way I never had, so I'm thinking I may not need it) ..... what do you guys think??
1. Supports a new accessory, GPS receiver GP-E2.
2. Fixes a phenomenon where a pink cast may develop over the image when the shutter is completely pressed with the camera’s power turned off (by the auto power off setting).
3. Fixes a phenomenon where the camera operation stops after one shot when shooting in High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode.
4. Fixes a phenomenon where the Shooting Date/Time in the EXIF data of the image shows a later time than the actual shooting time.
5. Fixes the time zone for the Samoa Islands.
6. Corrects errors in the Finnish menu screen.

Need advice with UWA and extender lenses........

Every time I read about lenses it goes both ways which in turn leaves me more confused with a dose of frustration.

In the past few weeks I have upgraded my 40D camera, 70-300 and 28-135 to this:
7D
70-200L 2.8 ll
24-105L F/4

Two things here...ouch on the reach with my 70-200.
Brings me to question #1....a Canon extender 1.4x lll.....your thoughts?

Next:
I need an ultra wide lens.
Question #2....I would like a recommendation to an L series lens. Considering 16-35 or 17-40...your thoughts?

There is the slight chance that I will go to FF down the road so keep this in mind. For now, happy with the crop factor because I shoot a lot of Baseball and Softball pics.

Please advise what you think would be a good fit for my current set up. Thanks so much in advance!

FYI-my focus in photography is...my kids, pets, family gatherings, lots of baseball, softball, football and football cheer (outdoors) and cheer competitions (indoor) (football being the least focus for now)

about 85L III

I really hope 85LII can be upgraded.
Not for the reason of its IQ, but its build quality regarding dust-proof, drip-proof, mechanical loose and front extension.....
If mk3 can solve some of these especially dust proof and loose...I shall buy it.
I don't expect to buy a L toy but has to worry about its build quality.
