Who thinks this is an ANTI-CLIMATIC product? As in, the 5DIII

I already have 5dII. I wanted more MP (more than D3X at 24MP), much better ISO performance, and better AF.

Why did Canon play this so foolishly? I am invested in Canon somewhat, and don't care about this new announcement. What a monumental letdown. I don't know how any current 5d owner could get very excited about this "ground-breaking" new DSLR.

I would rather have the 1dX. Even at over $3k more, you will have similar IQ at low ISO. I can't believe the resolution went up by 1 measly MEGAPIXEL!!!!!

I hope I am wrong. This is like the ending to Saving Private Ryan. An old man crying is all I see.....

Keep 5dII & get 70-300L or sell 5dII & get new 5d3?? Help!

I really want this lens! I have 28-135IS, 50/1.8, 35L, 17-40L, and 70-300 IS. I could sell 70-300 IS and use money I had put back for new body for 70-300L.

The new body would be nice, too, but I think the lens will better serve me. the only thing that gets me is that the 5dII I currently own will steadily lose value over next few months. That's just technology though, i guess.......

Oh, and I do a lot of street photos and landscapes. Give me your opinion, please! My 5dII is immaculate, with low shutter count. I don't think new 5d3 will improve too much in IQ

More intel (from France) on 5D Mark III video capabilities

Anyone notice this just now?

http://nofilmschool.com/2012/03/canon-5d-mark-iii-video-frame-rates/

Not good news for anyone hoping that it would support full HD (1080 lines) at 60p. Even those Sony NEX pocket cameras support it, but then again, the Cinema EOS C300 does not, and Canon probably wouldn't want to upstage that...

By the way, if you're looking for a feed focused just on the 5D Mark III, that will later evolve into a video sample-centric feed, sign up before tonight's launch at:

What's the big deal with the AF?

I'm on my 3rd EOS digital body now with virtually the same AF - 30D / 5D / 5D2 and I've NEVER had cause to complain about the AF. It works just fine for me for candid portraits, street, landscape and some amateur wildlife stuff.

I use centre point only and recompose. I use this method solely because I want to be 100% sure that the camera focuses on where I want it to focus. I like shallow depth of field stuff and so the focus point has to be perfect.

I'm interested to know what people will do with more than 60 AF points because aside from sports and some wildlife where you switch to servo I can't fathom the reasoning.

Projected MkIII vs MkII for landscape photography

Here's a question from a landscape photographer perspective. The 5D MkIII (as per leaked specs) seems evolutionary. Negligible res (pixel) increase. It may be cleaner, but for a landscape photographer the Mk II is plenty clean. Video performance is nice but some photographers only care for stills.

If you are a landscape photographer, have an original 5D, had skipped the MkII, would you get now a MkIII or a MkII (heavily discounted)?

So who thinks there will be a 7D Mk. II now?

From what I can tell the 5D Mk III is not a replacement for the 7D because as a 7D owner it's not an appealing upgrade. The AF system is obviously superior and the low light performance will be significantly improved, but the price tag and slower FPS seem to remove the 5D Mk III as a 7D replacement? So does the 7D line live on or just get replaced by the 70D?

Biggest Hardware Issue still not fixed?

By far the biggest hardware issue with Canon cameras for me that has not been fixed in the last ten years..... Poor grip build. The P-L-A-S-T-I-C gear wheel in their grips is the cause of so much grief for myself and the rest of the shooters in my circle. I personally have replaced 3 of them from BG-E2, BG-E2N, and BG-E6! It's a metal gear attached to the threads but a plastic one for the thumb wheel! Unbelievable and it makes the connection feel very flimsy at times, and the reason the grip loosens from the body from time to time. Added on to that is that it gets over tightened because it seems so loose! I finally decided to not use a grip on my current 5d2 because of this and the weakness, and I really miss the vertical shooting when I switch from my 1D3! The new grip for the D800 is finally magnesium to match the body and I suspect it is much sturdier! Anyone else hoping for the same from the new BG-E11????? I wouldn't mind paying the extra dough for it if it was actually solid! (hopefully not the same crazy hike that the D800 grip saw)
Anybody else have problems with the current lines of grips and their build quality?

p.s. it effects which RRS L-Plate I purchase as well, and they are expensive! worth it but expensive.

Now the rumored but highly likely 5D Mark III is imminent. And its specs make me think that Canon doesn't mind the 5D series further cannibalizing the 1D series even more than the what 5D2 did. I for one drooled over the 1D X high ISO performance and killer AF. But if 5D Mark 3 can do it only 1 stop less than 1D X and has similar but simplified 61-pt AF, I can totally see myself pre-ordering two 5D3's instead.

What are your plans?

Just preordered the 5DIII, price is definitely $3499.99

As soon as I heard it was for sure I ran over to one of the biggest Canon dealers in GA, they already had an SKU for it and it's most definitely $3499 body only. I figured I would be first on the list, but I'm actually 4th, but I dont really care since I'll still get one from the first shipment. Nice to see Canon dealers acknowledging it's existence 8)

Viewfinder - Help

Good afternoon,

I own a 7D and I mostly shoot videos, therefore I'm looking to buy a viewfinder but as always I have no clue which one is the best. I've done some research and I've found this:

http://hi-techwonder.com/product.aspx?idProduct=2674

http://hi-techwonder.com/product.aspx?idProduct=2090

http://niobo.pt/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=315_316&products_id=2845

Has anyone tried any of them and has some feedback to help me with my choice?

I know the best would a zacuto but I can't spend that much. (Sorry if the site is in portuguese but I only want to show you the name and price)

Thanks in advance ;)

Canon 5d Mark III vs Nikon D800!!!

Which camera is the better camera, based on the spec lists?

  • Canon 5d Mark III

    Votes: 22 68.8%
  • Nikon D800

    Votes: 10 31.3%

Now that we have a full list of specs for the 5D Mark III, which camera do you think is superior based on the spec lists? The Canon 5d Mark III or the Nikon D800. How do they measure up against each other(ie strengths and weaknesses in your opinion). I understand that you have to take a camera out into the field and shoot with it and see the Raw images to be able to fully make a choice, so this is just for arguments sake based on the released specs.

Availability (Based on past releases)?

I've never followed the release of a Canon Body release like I have the 5DMKIII, and it will be the first full frame camera that I've purchased. That is if the final specs warrant the price tag.

So I was hoping that those who are more familiar with Canon's routine of announcing new bodies could enlighten me of when a new body is usually available for purchase after it has been announced to the public?

5D Mark III definitely seems like a great tool but I wonder how existing 5D Mark II owners react to the 5D Mark III specs...
