N=1, so take it with a grain of salt: the front wheel on my M6II started having ghost clicks, which seems to be a fairly common issue. The Kamera Express person immediately dismissed it as "software issue" and basically told me to go pound sand and not bother them for warranty. This was within the regular warranty.
I fixed it myself with some compressed air and lots of spinning, but it soured me on KE. Luckily we have Cameraland and Cameranu here as well, which both have been proactive (e.g. calling me to ask if I experienced a specific issue) and not outright dismissive.

I think I forgot to post my answer, if I didn't, please disregard...
When I had a quality issue with another brand (Olympus), K.E. were very helpful. Unfortunately, like in many similar situations, it all depends on your interlocutor. Some will dismiss a claim, while others may accept it without discussion.

Speaking of extended warranty, I have never needed any Canon warranty at all, despite owning/having owned 5 bodies and 25+ lenses.
In Europe, there's one reputed Dutch company -Kamera Express- also extending the warranty to 5 years. They surely know what they risk by doing so...

I had fungus for the first time ever on my rf70-200/2.8 this year when I only use it for indoor sports ie doesn’t get wet and it isn’t actually used that much after 4 years. They cleaned it under warranty with a warning about hot/ cold temperature changes.
My veritable ef16-35/4 that has been literally everywhere above and below water hasn’t missed a beat in over a decade in comparison.

I had fungus for the first time ever on my rf70-200/2.8 this year when I only use it for indoor sports ie doesn’t get wet and it isn’t actually used that much after 4 years. They cleaned it under warranty with a warning about hot/ cold temperature changes.
My veritable ef16-35/4 that has been literally everywhere above and below water hasn’t missed a beat in over a decade in comparison.

Against the risk of fungus, all my storage cases are fitted with large silica-gel containers. Ambient humidity, not only rain droplets, is also a risk.
But isn't Australia a rather dry country?

I'm not located in the tropics or too close to the ocean so humidity isn't a big issue for storage.
Usage is a different thing with holidays etc. Some people I know have humidity controlled storage cabinets but I haven't needed it before. Just strange that one lens has had an issue after all this time.

Dry country? 18% desert and further 35% is semi-arid but Australia covers 33 degrees of latitude and 40 degrees of longitude.
From tropical rainforests to temperate geography of Tasmania in the roaring 40s.
Australia is the flattest continent and we have little mountains with not much snow.

It's weather sealed, too. It would have been defective and slipped through quality control?

I see! I'll have to correct my view of the Australian continent, my picture was of a mostly bone-dry country, which obviously isn't true.
I've never been in Australia, being (stupidly, I know) far too afraid of all the abundant venomous and biting creatures...

The best deterrent against fungi is sunlight. UV prevents fungal spores from being able to reproduce. Letting sunlight shine through your lens for a few hours each month should be enough to prevent it.

I tried clicking on the "You must be logged in to post a comment." at the bottom of the new posts and it leads to a wordpress login screen, entering your canon rumors username and password doesn't work.

Is this a mistake, or just how the site is going to be run now? If it's the latter, I'm gone.

The hidden threads/nodes will be back (Like all the premium boards), there are still a few issues to deal with. All of the posts are still in the database.

We had to solve the commenting and ad issues, which have been done. There are still a few annoyances that may be related to the overall issues that had to be solved over the last couple of weeks. We're working on solving the confirmation of reactions at the moment, which is an annoying problem. There are a couple of others like multi-quote...

Being critical of CR or me is not something I take any sort of offense to (not anymore anyway). There are also other avenues to reach out and get a more direct response if it's something that really bugs you. It's all good.

This is not stuff that I wanted to be around for this summer. I wanted the Jon Stewart work schedule. A couple of other things have been slow to progress, but I'm confident they will.

The comments about "clickbait" articles. It's one section at the bottom of the site that never appear in the main blogroll, featured areas or on the forum. There's a reason they exist and they aren't targetted at the demographic of a forum member. A bit of a vacuum on the topic has formed I think. I never see them, but I'm never looking for them either. So I don't know?

If it's a social media thing? I couldn't care less about Facebook/Twitter or any of that and well, they fit those platforms anyway.

So when a legitimate article about industry news or rumors is published, it’s accompanied by a flurry of these low-effort posts, and I end up scrolling through trying to figure out what’s actually worth reading.

It’s not a huge deal, I know — but when the articles themselves are so asinine (seriously, using a 70–200mm to critique animal autofocus on Canon’s latest cameras?), it just adds to the annoyance.

To the first question; that's internal and will remain there forever.

Second question, it's X, and engagement has been valueless for years now. It's the same with Facebook. There are more important areas that drive traffic/engagement than social media platforms. Maybe they have more value now with the "clickbait", I have no idea, I don't use any of them on a personal level, and don't have admin access on any other than Facebook.

YouTube and "Clickbait" articles? They're the same, 100%. That's why I don't read or watch any of it! Those articles are very well traffic'd though, which is why they exist. As I said, they're at the bottom of the site. I look at some of the other sites in the same niche as CR and and 7 of 10 "articles" are affiliate posts, one paragraph things or a dozen links to YouTube videos.

Take this forum, it has to be paid for. I have had some bad days to make sure the forum sticks around. It's a financial/resource liability. The last month has been a trainwreck of frustration. It represents 7%-11% of the total traffic to the site. An even lower percentage contribute. Maybe the forum will fall off a cliff in traffic and will be done away with, I have no idea. It was on the chopping block, but I do believe it's worth keeping around over a Disqus comment section.

Anyway, this thread has been hijacked, and it's cool. To be honest, I had no idea how all of this worked in 2025. I've done it for 18 years, but I never wanted to learn the "SEO" and analytics stuff, and I still don't.

So that's that, and they're working to fix some small issues with the forum, that are proving to be annoying to find.

Well, banning @neuro is disappointing.
He may have been acerbic and loved the word "asinine" but very insightful and knowledgeable. I learnt a lot from him over the years.
It is a loss for Canonrumors IMO :-(

He was knowledgeable. He also conveyed a negative tone and resorted to repeated insults or condescension that, for me dramatically reduced most of the benefits of reading his posts. His insults were so common that I would regularly show my wife when members would call him out on it.
The past several months he did however moderate his tone and occasionally compliment other members. It felt like a breath of fresh air when I saw a positive comment from him. I would also point these improvements to my wife.

Overall to me, it's a wash.

It's more of a loss for me because those people who can't accept his (or any other member's) personality can block. Just think, now you can't show your wife his posts
