That puts it into perspective. A 5mm thick lens would expand its centre by about 600nm, 20x Canon's tolerance, and the edges proportionately less for 15 oC.

I'm honestly not sure. There doesn't seem to be any cooling, etc embedded in the camera lenses, and they seem to be mostly painted black.
