for me, the joke is, "I need an RF 50 f/1.4 with weather sealing for under $1000."My garden Goldcrest displayed for me today. I assembled some shots together to show his antics and how the crest changes colour (R7 + RF 100-500mm + 1.4xTC iso 8000, 1/640s, f/10, 8 fps in EFCS). Apologies if I used an aperture that is a joke and an iso that is ridiculously high.

Long time Jack - nice to see you back! Nice photos!Haven't had much time for shooting and less for processing but I thought these two shots might get a laugh. I had no idea coots were so aggressive. And those feet are more like weapons! Not ideal lighting but it's the best I could do.View attachment 211578View attachment 211579

Sorry for not responding earlier. We've been away for a few days. There's no magic and I confess I could be wrong about the identification. After looking at a few pictures and referring to the massive and encyclopedic Birds of Saskatchewan I concluded the duck is most likely to be the lesser scaup based on its much more common presence than that of the greater scaup in our location. IDing from physical characteristics is very difficult.I really wish to be able to separate this one from the Greater with such a confidence! Just from one photo?!: what is your magic?
