Industry News: OM System launches the OM-1

Canon's implementation is different that what Olympus is using with this sensor from Sony. Canon is able to capture both the DP and image data at the same time while Olympus needs to read 2 frames alternating between the 80mb QP PD data and the 20mp. Due to the very fast readout from the...

Industry News: OM System launches the OM-1

It is interesting that every 2nd frame readout during C-AF is an 80mp quad pixel structure for more accurate C-AF. The 20mp image is still readout out at 120fps so it looks like the sensor is capable of 240 fps.

A BSI APS-C EOS R camera is coming in the second half of 2022 [CR2]

Since Canon is starting from scratch with this mount I wonder if they would consider going to 1.5x crop for APS-C.

Here is the Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM

Canon is certainly setting up the lenses for a cheaper and more compact FF or APS-C RF body for next year.

It looks like 2021 will be the last year for the EOS M lineup [CR2]

They likely make very little profit from the EOS M line. It doesn't matter the volume if the profit is not there.

Extending R5 video without loosing settings

Someone in that thread just confirmed that it works with firmware 1.1 as well

Extending R5 video without loosing settings

This is a much cleaner way of extending video on the R5 without loosing any settings. You just need to change the date and then do the battery reset. You don't loose the last recorded video and settings are kept intact...

Is Scotch tape the answer to your Canon EOS R5 overheating issues?

Someone has found a workaround to get usable video files indefinitely when formating the SD card to FAT32. This created new DAT files every ~45 seconds when recording 8k so you only loose the last FAT32 file. You just need to plan on finishing your recording a minute before the timer kicks in...

Only 2 minutes of HQ 4k video after 164 images

This is not good considering the 164 shots were taken over 2 hours. Taking one 2 minute video would basically brick the camera for 10-15 minutes before you can use it again...

Full-resolution sample images from the EOS R5, EOS R6, and the new lenses

I think it is related to poor contrast which was to be expected from cheaper DO lenses.

There will not be an EOS 5D Mark V [CR2]

According to this rumor from this morning the 90D won't be replaced either. This is likely related to the rumored high-end crop mirrorless body. http://personal-view.com/talks/discussion/21248/canon-ef-system-will-be-slowly-phased-out-in-3-years-time

    Here are the RF 600mm f/11 & RF 800mm f/11 super-telephoto lenses

I wish the 600mm was f8 for the extra stop of light and then the 1.4tc could be added for 840mm f11 with a shorter MFD than the 800mm f11.

Correction: Canon is bringing us an RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM Macro

It is exactly 2/3 stop darker than f5.6, so 1/3 stop brighter than f8. It would be similar to f4 with m43

Canon RF 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM to be announced this year [CR2]

Optical compromises will need to be made if they are both decreasing the size and extending the zoom range. I hope this means we will also see a high-end RF crop body.
