Did anyone try it using AI-Servo and perhaps burst mode? Is it even possible to do with relative success?
Becuase we've been hearing a lot how 1DX is good in this regard, but for a variety of reasons 5d3 is a much more used camera, that's why I'm asking.
I currently have 70-300L so I'm planning to shoot with this, just want to hear your opinion on the subject matter.

Of course it's possible. Here's a couple from last Saturday shot jpeg, pretty much straight from camera except for some cropping.

5D3 w/ 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ ISO 16000

and at ISO 10000

And a tennis shot with a 70-200 f/2.8L at ISO 320, daylight shot, obviously.

Are you kidding? The AF in the 5D mk III is top class in the world. I'm super stoked to shoot with it this fall sports season. Just for comparison here is a shot I took last year with my pentax k5. It is a great little camera, but the AF on it is LIGHTYEARS behind the 5dmk3, and the burst was very similar 7fps. I was shooting with the sigma 100-300 f4 with a 1.5x teleconverter (and it is aps-c, so I think it was close to 500mm handheld). I shot it at 1/6400- which was probably overkill, but you can even see the blades of flying grass with no motion blur.

f5.6 - was f4 but I had a 1.5x on

ISO 3200,

Can't wait to see what I will get with my 5dmk3 the 70-200 and 2x converter this year...

Of course, it has better AF than anything Canon released before.

Thanks everyone, I've checked that topic, but most posts over there were "Well you see, 1DX is better, and here is why..."
I was looking for feedback from people who own 5DmIII and who have shot some sports events with it, that's why I created a topic of my own.

@!ex, awesome shot you have there!
