I was just looking at T4i rumors and they said it would have the DIGIC 5 processor. I just starting thinking that with that onboard combined with a smaller sensor I wonder if it will have 1080p video?

It wouldn't be unprecedented for a feature to make its way to the rebel before it got into a flagship product. What do you think?

Edit: Somehow I didn't mention 60 FPS outside the subject, which was the point of my post.

Considering the T2i and T3i shoot 1080p, I'm sure the T4i will follow suit ;)

As for the 1080p60, I wouldn't say it's impossible. I wonder if it would be possible to bring this to the 5DIII through firmware? I mean the 5DII only had 1080p/30fps initially, 24fps was added later on. Then again those were a step down, not sure if it's possible to go up on framerate through firmware.

I'm hoping for true 1080p (1000 lines of res). It's looking like the 5D3 is still that soft up-res'd 700 line resolution, which really sucks. But the final model isn't out yet, just the pre-production models look like that.

Come on Canon, give us true 1080p, since it's 2012. We deserve it.

I would hope that the it can do 1080p at 60fps. Seems like it should just be standard, but since the C-300 came out, it starting to look like Canon is really into tiering their video products, which is a shame, especially since the C-300 is so over priced.

The codec could handle 1080-60p at about 75mbps for very near identical to potentially even better IQ. The big question is can the sensor and processor(s) handle the increase in data flow from readout to storage?

All the current cams sporting 1080-60p are only 28mbps AVCHD including the Sony CX700, FS100, NEX5, NEX7 and Panasonic TM900.

I talked to one of the head guys on the C300 project at a local C300 release presentation and he said there was a technical reason they couldn't do 1080-60p on that cam without reducing the data rate. He also suggested he didn't think people really wanted 1080-60p. I had to laugh as the action sports relm is screaming for a cost effective, high frame rate cam with the IQ and lens choices of these Canon DSLR's.

Only time will tell :)

Cheers,
Pete
