My dad decided to try out photography; with me being his model.

His first ever attempt is pretty decent IMHO

1DX + 24-105L

Did you choose that pose, or was it all his idea? Love the location/sun/clouds, and I'm guessing an on-camera speedlite, or just off to the side?

Hi I did the pose and set up the speedlites they are off camera and place on both side and that is all. He does the rest, Aperture, shooting angle and shutter speed etc.

It is not exactly his first camera, It is the only camera we had available with a wide angle at that time.

I think it is brilliant I would probably try to sway him to take the next step and show him pp and try to do something about the burnt out sun through the sky. I love the fill light for the subject and foreground. Did he also play with the whitebalance to get the dramatic sky?

Hi Quasimodo,

I don't think he will ever be able to PP, as he is no computer literate.

he used auto for everything else except manual mode for F-stop and Shutter Speed. ( I told him to set shutter speed at no more that 250 for flash sync) and he did the rest.

Also helped by a B+W polarize filter set at max on the 24-105L, which i believed contributed to the dramatic sky

Nice photo. For full testing you should remove lamps and let him set everything by himself.
BTW: big lamps - casting all those shadows on the clouds...

Thank you but I dont think he's ready for lighting just yet. For now he is doing a fine job getting use to the cameras and setting very soon I think he will able to achieve much more.
