5D Mark II with my 3 lenses question

Regarding the question on the 17-40, well for me it's a bit to short of reach for general purpose shooting. you might want a 24-105(24-70 is heavy for general purpose IMO) and it's with IS. :)

When i switched from crop to FF, it took time for me to adjust because of the difference in FL. I'm in FF more or less 2 months and adjusted already.

Thank you for all the replies! I think it’s best I leave it for a bit now and wait and see what money I can get over the next few months, it’s also my birthday today, so I’m hoping I get given a 5D Mark III :) haha I wish!

I’m sure I’ll be back on here in the near future especially considering I have just been reading on these forums about the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II :)

I want to go full frame sometime this year and it looks like I’ll be going for the 5D Mark II because of the price. I currently have 3 lenses, 17-40mm f/4 L, 70-200mm f/4 L and 50mm f/1.8. I was wondering if anybody has had experience in using these lenses on the 5D Mark II and has anyone used the 17-40mm as a general purpose lens? I would rather get something like the 24-70mm or 24-105mm as a general purpose lens, but because of a tight budget, for now I will have to stick with the 3 lenses I have.

Thanks very much!

I find 40mm much too wide for "general purpose". My choice of the lenses you have would be the 50 (it's a "portrait lens" on APS-C but more of a general purpose lens on FF), followed by the 70-200 (I shoot portraits a lot, so "a general purpose zoom" to me includes the 85-135 range)

It depends a lot on what you shoot though. If you shoot wide a lot (25mm or less on APS-C), 17-40 might work.
