We have been told by a very reliable source that Canon is scheduled to announce a "Never-before-seen zoom lens from Canon" The lens in question is not of the "big white" variety, but more a "general" use lens. We may have a slightly different idea of what a general use lens is, but I think it sits somewhere in the 16-135mm focal range

This one puzzles me a bit. Canon have made some strange choices in lenses for me over recent years. The 24-70 F2.8L for me is a not broke, don't fix it. So a lens floating around this range even if f2.0 is not an attractive proposition for me. 24-105 not enough at telephoto end, why would I want 28mm at the wide end? So who is this lens for? Not one for me Canon, sorrry.

I imagine most of us would, but whether or not that's possible, who knows. I suspect the "choice" for Canon will be a 24-70 that's about the same weight or a 28-70 that's about as light as Sony's version.
I guess it depends on how much this hypothetical 24-70 f/2 will be allowed by Canon to cost. The use of extremely expensive glass could lower weight and increase compactness. But would we be ready to pay the price?
Anyway, at present time, we are only speaking of a rumor...

My hypothetical 24-70 f2 is defective. the focal length is stuck at 35 and the aperture goes all the way to 1.2.
