AF improvements in new bodies

I am technologically impaired and am wondering why my somewhat dated DsMk3 cannot be somehow "updated" to improve on it's AF abilities.
It is up to date on it's firmware upgrades.

I would imagine that the AF relies heavily on hardware, like optical sensors & the digic processor.

Once they announce a replacement for your particular model, Canon loses all interest in updating the firmware any further. Another way of forcing us to "upgrade" our tools.

Its not firmware related, the new AF systems use different AF sensors, a separate Digic 4 processor ... It would cost less to buy a new one than upgrade a old one with a sensor that is out of date.

I bet your car manufacturer upgrades the engine in your car to the latest model after its obsolete and out of production.

Wait... so this firmware I bought on the Internet to upgrade my Macbook to 64GB of memory, a 2TB solid state drive, and 4k retina display might not work?!?! LIES!
