An insight into the current state of Canon USA and its partners

That's not what I'm seeing in Denmark. The electronic chains have low-end cameras and lenses, the photo chains are basically extinct and there are a handful of specialty photo shops that cater for the enthusiasts and pros.

Well. There are what 50 countries in Europe? (I don't have that fun fact researched) and Denmark is one of the smaller ones. That's a small sample size. There are more people in Madrid than Denmark.

It's internet retailers like Amazon, B&H, Adorama, that killed bricks and mortar camera retailers in the USA, not Canon direct.

Sure.. they are part of it... But to dismiss Canon USA is obtuse. I actually know how many cameras and lenses are sold during their refurb sales. It's not a dozen, it's thousands.

So they take from their retail network and then f*** them. Why can't retailers sell "refurbs"? Why don't they get to discount product and actually get paid immediately and get the full rebate amount? Again, this is just American business ethics (which don't exist) and it's gross.

Even evil companies like Apple and Microsoft don't screw their retail network like this.

"American business ethics" = oxymoron, right?

To add the tiny Australian sales market (27m people) and anecdotal evidence...

Sydney = 5.5m population which is bigger than any US city bar NYC and bigger than any EU city
=> we have 4 main brick/mortar camera retailers (Digidirect, Teds, Georges and Digital Camera Warehouse). All take online orders (pickup in store or delivered direct).
Of these Digi has 4 stores in Sydney plus one in Melbourne/Perth/Brisbane.

There are also generic retailers that do the cheaper models (similar to bestbuy/Walmart) and Camera House (multiple locations) and CameraPro in Brisbane.

Amazon Australia of course but we can't order direct to Canon Australia.
Sunstudios "backed by Canon" is another option but more for B2B with rental spaces/equipment.

We even have a bricks and mortar analog camera store in Madrid. Not just a little hole in the wall shop, it's modern.

Did I say that Denmark represents all of Europe? No.
Is it easy to google how many countries there are in Europe? Yes (44, according to worldometer).
Did I say that Denmark is a major market? No.

All I did was to point out a datapoint which is contrary to what you stated - at comment I made simply because I've not heard of chains expanding in Europe.
So if you wanted to add constructively to my comment, you could have pointed to the European chains that are expanding, and in which countries.

PS: Madrid city has 3.4M inhabitants. It's only when you add the metropolitan area that you hit the 7M[1], which puts in above the danish population (5.9M[2])
