Canon EOS-1D X

As of the end of last week, Canon is still holding to the end of June for shipments to begin. That’s what is still being told to a couple of large retailers.

Canon EF 500 f/4L IS II & EF 600 f/4L IS II

These two lenses are proving to be more elusive to nail down. Current Canon says they’re begin shipping in May, however 2 retailers I spoke to have said they’re now being told the end of June to the beginning of July for availability.

If any of this changes (and it probably will), I will update.

Is Canon going to miss the Olympics with large numbers of 1Dx's? And what about the 200-400 zoom? Last year at this time, I expected to own one by now.

Agreed. It's not 'holding to the end of June' it's yet another delay. Well, just business as usual, I suppose.

Yeah it is odd how 'mid june' turned into 'end of june' (a two week delay) and how it's positioned as holding position - still 4 weeks from now is better then the 9 months from now we started with so here's hoping it'll finally stick!

i`m so annoyed. i have important assignments in July and i want to have the camera and since this is gonna be my first 1D series i'm guessing i'll need some time to learn all about it.

Damn you Canon!! i'm dreaming of this camera everyday.
Mr Postman might think i'm in love with him. I wait for him everyday to come with my camera on his arms... snif... :'(

Maybe the assign the whole production capacity to olympia photographers. With the 5D3 being much closer to be a real alternative the might have reduced lifetime volume, thus a slower introduction.
The 200-400? At least a really official announcement would be nice, a bit more then the mock-up w/o much detail. At least my worries about the 400/2,8II acquisition being premature weren't justified. ::)

Before the London Olympics, there are Olympic Trials in the US, most of which will be held in June! Apparently 1DX is not going to make it. I have cancelled my pre-order from Adorama and will be using 1D IV and 5D III instead.

Canon screwed me over, I am going to european soccer cup and was counting on this "sport" camera to take with me, now 2 weeks to the game its certainly will not happen. Oh well. This feels like 1Dx is year old camera :(

Aarrggg..... been waiting on the 600II for a while now, I have it preordered, I think I'm first or second in line at the shop.

People talk about the Olympics and Canon missing the date. However, the big name sports shooters seem to already be using the 1DX as it has been spotted at all sorts of recent events (golf, tennis, F1, etc). I would guess that Canon is actively producing 1DX's and 500 and 600s right now but that the initial stock is just going out to all the pro sports agencies. I don't think there will be any shortage of 1DXs in the hands of the pros at the olympics. Most of them shoot 400 2.8s over the 500 and 600 so that won't be an issue either.

Us mere mortals will continue to wait with our 10s of thousands of dollars burning holes in our pockets ;D

You forgot to mention the CPS loan stock for the Olympics

This is SO disappointing! You would hope that Canon would reduce the price a bit as a good will gesture for all of us that have been waiting so long . . . . I actually thought about getting the 5Dmk3, but after I compared 6 fps to the 10 fps on my 1dmk3 (not to say anything how 12 frames would be), I decided that 6 would be too slow. The 1Dx now is so "old news" now. It better be absolutely perfect or as perfect as any camera can be! Gheesh!

Re: Availability Update: EOS-1D X & EF 500L II & EF 600L II

Personally, I just don't understand why Canon would announce new cameras and lenses, then take months, or even years before they are on the market.
All it does it make Canon look foolish, or incapable to get a product to market.

All you do is stop sales of your current models, then piss off the people who want it now and even worse, give your competitors extra lead time to adjust their future models to better match or surpass what Canon is bringing out (eventually, if ever).

Wouldn't it be better if they only announced new product as it was about to be shipped?

You don't see many car companies announcing replacement models months in advance, nor any of the major electronics companies either.

So, what have we all learned from this exercise in futility - "You can't count on Canon" - sad but true, because if you do, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment and failure(?). I, for one, have learned my lesson - never, never, never count on Canon to deliver. I mean can you imagine the chaos for the British Olympics if their suppliers and builders operated under similar a approach.
