Canon 1DX ITR AF Feature

Forgive the ignorance but what is the ITR AF feature in the Canon 1DX all about? Is it true that if it is turned on,it slows down the auto-focusing of the camera a bit?And lastly, when is it best to use this feature and when is it better not to use it?
Thanks in advance.

It's face-detection with phase AF. I find that it works pretty for tracking a person moving through a group. I have a Servo setting for 'people/events' and I use iTR for that, but not for my wildlife/birds setting. Note that for iTR to work, you've got to be in 61-point auto selection more for the AF point selection.

Is it ok to have only cross-type points selectable?

Yes. Setting 'select cross type points' limits only what you can manually select. With 4- or 8-pt expansion or 61-pt in Servo, when the camera is picking the AF point(s), it will use both cross- and line-type points.

Really? I thought iTR also worked with 4 and 8 expanded, at least the color tracking?

Thanks for the confirmation, I got the 1DX only two weeks ago, and haven't had an opportunity to put all AF modes to a proper test yet.

PS: It was also some of your input that convinced me to get the 1DX, and what can I say, it's great, and I don't miss the 3MP from the 5D2!

Nope - 61-pt auto and Zone AF only. See p.95 of the manual.

Wow... So I haven't even tried color-tracking at all? That is weird because with the 1dx and same settings as the 5d3 with 4 point expansion the 1dx tracks waaay better, and I'm not sure the 50 L benefits from the higher drive power from the bigger battery...

Does that mean I should turn it off if I never use zone and all 61?
