Canon 24-70mm 2.8 II , error?

Today I used my new 24-70 for only the 3rd time and the camera now won't recognise the lens, aperture shows up as "00" and no focusing. There was no issues the first 2 times I used it. Tried it on 2 different body's (5d3 & 1DMK1V), changed batteries etc and still no hope. It will switch back and forth though, it will work for 3 photos then stop for 3 and at times won't work for ages. Any body with some idea's?

Confirm the contacts are clean. If so, contact Canon or, if you're within the return period, exchange the lens.

Contacts are pristine, just tried it on an old 1DMKII and works fine, couldn't replicate the problem but put it back on the other bodies and there's pproblems.

That sounds like an intermittent connection issue to me. Neuro is right, Canon warranty service is in your future.

Its referred to by reliability engineers as infant mortality. Most failures happen when a item is nearly new or very old. Exchange it.

Thought I'd give an update on my problem. The shop concerned was very difficult to deal with, wouldn't return messages etc so as I needed a working lens for my work I bought another copy which worked perfectly - such a nice lens. However it took up until today to get a refund, I sent metadata to them first which showed the fault then the lens once they asked for it. But surprise surprise when they got it they said there was nothing wrong with it and it was my cameras that were faulty. Basically it was weeks and weeks of hassles until today, at least I got a new lens (from another shop) that works a treat and I got my money back, except for postage as they still deny the lens is faulty.
