Canon really should add IS mode info to the EXIF data. It's back to carrying a note pad temporarily, something I used to do when I shot film. Phhthtt!

Its after dark, and my camera is out in the studio, so I'll just start with some unboxing photos. This is by far the best packaged of the under $3,000 lenses I've seen. Adorama packed it well too, as usual. These are just snapshots with my G1X II, no flash or special lights. I took a photo of the extended lens to show what it looks like at 400mm.

There are 100s of recent bird images taken with the 100-400mm II on the Bird Portraits thread, with and without the 1.4xTC.Now that this lens is older no one has posted for a while. I had the lens but sold it in September 2017 because I found I liked my 70-200 f2.8 better and it was difficult to carry both. However there are times (especially with birds) that my 70-200 is not long enough, even with the 1.4 extender. So I just purchased the 100-400 ii again using the current $400 instant rebate. Here is a test shot from my first outing with it this morning. This is with the 1.4x iii extender. Image is cropped a little but otherwise unadjusted JPEG from 5D4.
