Re: Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM

The last few weeks, it's been carnival season. For a few weeks in November, Somerset plays host to around 110-120 entries, many of which are up to 100 foot long illuminated carts. Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, where it all started over 400 years ago, is purported to be the largest illuminated carnival in the world and the third largest carnival behind Rio and Notting Hill. It's a totally different feel though, as it happens at night, sometimes in the freezing cold or heacy rain. Here are a few of the entries this year.

f/4 gives you plenty of background blur if you focus closely!

Could anyone show some corner sharpness crops at f/4 and 70mm? Some reviews say this lens is soft there, and one person (and his friend) posting in this thread also complained about this... I'm curious.

I don't often shoot at 70mm and when I do, it tends to be narrower apertures. However, for most subjects, the corners would be out of focus at f/4@70mm, so softness even if you find a suitable subject to test, would be irrelevant in the real world, as you'd want them soft anyway, with a few exceptions. I do find the corners soft at 24mm@f/11-f/16 though, which is one reason I was looking at the 24mm MkII, Zeiss 21mm and the TSE 24MM MkII for landscapes. The 24mm MkII won the contest, because I wanted f/1.4 for the northern lights. I'll see what I can find. I found one shot at 80mm, but the corners were out of focus.
