Lens was sitting on a 5D MKIII. Single exposure with just some post in LR and NIK color effex.

After dropping my beloved 24-105 and denting the filter ring, I gave it away and bought this lens. No regrets. I was happy with the former lens, but if one is deciding between the two this one is the way to go. It has better stabilization, less barrel distortion at 24mm, and a macro mode that is much more useful than most forum members credit. I got it just in time for last weeks trip to the coastal redwoods of northern California. Here is one example, edited in Photoshop Elements and Nik Color Efex.

I find this lens to be very versatile, especially useful if you only have the opportunity to take the one lens (such as a day out with the family). This was taken in the Butterfly house at the National Botanical Garden of Wales, Canon 6D, Handheld.

Don't regret buying it with my 6D 3 years ago but have used it as more of a walk-around snap-shot lens and as a result it didn't factor much in posting to CR. Of course that's partly because the vast majority of my postings have been birds. It was never, "wow this is a spectacular lens", like I viewed the 300 2.8 II purchased at the same time. My choice was influenced by the handy macro capability. I liked it for 24 so when I bought the 11-24 its use diminished somewhat - still it's smaller and lighter and less hassle.

Jack, how do you find the macro mode when not using the centre point of the 6D AF? I struggled when using it handheld in the macro mode.

I was influenced to buy based on macro but haven't used it a whole lot and probably mainly center focus because from experience I learned that non-cross points aren't too good. What happened to me is that my 300 2.8 II ended up being my "macro at a distance" sometimes using extension tubes or otherwise cropping. I found distance to be my friend with most bugs etc.

Just looked for macro and didn't find but here is my contribution at the wide and narrow ends. A great walk around lens.

No one else posting photos from this great lens? I guess everyone uses the f2.8 version. Anyone here is one from a week ago at a local zoo. 35mm at f5.6 (on a 5D4).

I will continue with my (perhaps vain) attempt to bump this thread and entice others to post. Sometimes I wonder if I should sell this lens and get an f2.8 version (probably Tamron G2), but the sharpness and ergonomics of this lens make me stick with it. Here is one from last month, the famous Cypress Tree Tunnel at Point Reyes National Seashore (California, USA).

Two exposures on a 5D4, blended for highlights and shadows. Since I don't have good HDR software, I did it manually in Photoshop Elements.

I've been very close to moving to the 2.8L II several times but in the end I don't do it either. The combination of size, weight, IS, close focus and price make me stick with the 4L IS.
