Okay, so I just got this lens, and I'm jazzed, okay, I realize that. But, I put it on my 6D and took some pics of a building not quite 1/2 mile away at 300 mm and 600 mm with the 2X TC III. There are lenses that don't seem to match up too well with the 2X III (such as the 70-200 II zoom). But, that would NOT seem to be the case with the 300 mm 2.8 + the TC. WOW. You can see the screws in the security lights from nearly a half mile away. Okay, I'm impressed. (And these were just shot out of the box on a tripod, no remote exposure, totally auto mode shot...). (Click on the big thumbnail on the right to see the full resolution).

A great combo! I tried the same on a 1Dx last summer, and it was great. However, I think my 2xIII works just fine on my 70-200 II :)

The 300 F2.8 L IS Mk1 works great with that extender as well and, except for the aperture, isn't too shabby compared to the 600 F4 L IS Mk1. When I had my 600 I found myself using the 300 + 2 x whenever mobility was required and it didn't disappoint.

The dp iso 12233 crops suggest you have to stop down by 1 stop to get decent results - so then it's 600/8 up against the 600 prime at f/4!

Mean while in the real world its a great combo that takes great shots. >:( Why are some people so negative? (after looking at test shots not real life as well ::) )

LovePhoto - I've had this combo for a while now and it is my most used "lens" on the 1Dx ever since I got it. You should get some great shots with it.
