Canon EOS R1 & EOS R5 Mark II Announcement Teaser – July 17, 2024 12:00 CEST

The point wasn't about information, it was about placing a preorder with the NY-based retailers (B&H, Adorama). For example, pre-orders for the R3 went live at 6 AM EDT. Preorders placed at B&H before about 8:30 AM EDT were filled from the first batch they received (I ordered at 6:45a and got my R3 the day after Thanksgiving). Orders placed after about 8:30 AM EDT were not filled for a few months (the following February, IIRC).
Interesting to note that Canon is using the same timing to announce the R5 Mk2 / R1 that they used for the R3.

It is not likely that Rudy Winston will do the announcements, as he has just been laid off:(.

See Petapixel: https://petapixel.com/2024/07/15/canon-lays-off-rudy-winston-the-beloved-perennial-camera-guru/
I just read that a few hours ago and it’s very sad to learn. He was a wealth of knowledge that will be sorely missed in any future press materials and technical discussion videos. He was always a great guest on podcasts, but I can’t help but imagine Canon will look toward a younger representative to represent the brand moving forward.

We’re roughly 30 hours away from all the answers we were looking for. Judging by the great lengths taken by Canon to keep information close to the hip, product images absent from the internet, and conducting a global audience announcement…this should be a landmark event for the company. Will it fall short of expectations? I honestly think that is hard to avoid at this point with how much is being anticipated from the next generation of professional mirrorless cameras. I just hope that we’re at lest pleasantly surprised by a few details. Canon is a distinctly proud company and I don’t anticipate anything short of a phenomenal camera system to be released. I’m eager to hear everything…

EDIT: I just saw the time is 6am EST on Canon's official YouTube channel? Also, my math was off by 10 hours either way - corrected. LOL

Canon a distinctly proud company? Pride is the most evil of the 7 deadly sins, and greed is next on the list.
